  1. What a load of crap. The president isn't responsible for your losing your job. The economy has little to do with him, and more to do with the previous president and 9-11. There is always a lag between the presidents actions and the effect on the economy. Clinton screwed the economy for the next guy, and everyone knew it before the election. You'll get further in life if you spend your efforts solving your problems, rather than trying to find someone else to blame for them.
  2. As somone who studied low-temperature condensed matter physics in grad school, I can say it is definitely not possible. The closer you get, the harder everything becomes. I used to do experiments at millikelvin (.001K) temps. Some of the other experiments were operating at microkelvin temps (.000001K). The really cold stuff took about a month, just to cool it to that temperature. One of my labmates had many months of work ruined when a janitor banged her experiment with a cart and instantly warmed it up.
  3. I noticed that the pilot involved was only a private pilot. This brings up interesting questions.
  4. Awe, a boogie on my birthday. You shouldn't have.
  5. I hope you're giving them a freebee after totally disregarding their desire for some privacy by posting this.
  6. I'd have to say price is for the pair. I suppose we might have to put a time limit of say 15 seconds per $5 too.
  7. With all the concern over the portion of money people donate to events that pay for the events themselves and not the charity they are promoting, I came up with a low cost way of raising money. "Cop a Feel for the Cause". You could let anyone cop a feel of your breasts for say $5 all of which would go to charity. Or maybe $20 for a bare-breasted grope. An equal opportunity event for those who want to feel Clay's man boobs. Nobody could accuse you of trying to get a free vacation in the name of charity, and there would be zero overhead costs. Men would not be excluded from the chance to participate fully. Sounds like a win win to me.
  8. Is that this Saturday July 6? How much are the slots?
  9. Sweet!!! I'm still looking to get my first spock! I have to find someone that can fall fast enough in a sit to let me manuever and not just sit there keeping the fall rate. Dude, get your butt up to Rome some time. I have a rock solid sit and I scream it down!
  10. I know they are having a boogie at Atlanta Air Sportz, but that is a bit further than Raeford for you. Now if the weather would just improve down here! I finished flying the test time on my plane on Saturday, but haven't flown it since.
  11. Alas, I am but a poor flight instructor. Unlike you I am unable to afford expensive photography equipment.
  12. Atlanta Air Sportz now has the best swoop pond in the state by far. Ron & the gang haulled out the heavy equipment for this one. The splashdown to swoop ratio is still pretty high. I'm sure folks will get the hang of it soon.
  13. I met Bob at Quincy last summer. He is a really cool guy. I thought it was interesting that people keep giving him gear, but he said he prefers his Dolphin container. The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  14. You should be thankful. You haven't had to fly a small Cessna with him! The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  15. I normally do this, and some times get funny looks. To be honest, the biggest reason I leave my helmet on is noise. The safety aspect is also a reason. The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  16. It isn't worth the risk. There will always be other days to jump. I really wanted to jump a couple weeks ago, but had a nasty sinus congestion, so I went a whole two weeks without jumping. No big deal in the big picture. The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  17. It is all in the presentation. You need to relate skills learned in skydiving to your job performance. Some of the easy ones that come to mind: 1. Understands hard deadlines 2. Works well under pressure 3. Knows how to manage risk 4. Doesn't let fear control their life I don't normally bring it up, unless they ask what I do when not working or will bring it up casually and related it to why I'm right for the job. If I told them I was a flight instructor and skydiver who likes to fly around in planes I built in my garage without some explanation they'd think I was suicidal for sure. 18. Hmm... I still have a raft in the box. I was going to jump it at the Casa boogie in Monroe last year, then I was told they wouldn't let me so I didn't waste my time (or money) on them. Now if I could just fly another 13.5 hours on my plane between now and Saturday I could fly down for the boogie. Probably won't happen. I guess my raft will have to stay in the closet till the Atlanta Freeflight Festival this October. The festival has moved up to Rome, GA and they are supposed to have a Casa, Porter, and balloon jumps if I recall correctly. The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  19. Congrats. I really wish I knew I was going to be flying up there, I would have brought my gear! Oh well, there will always be other times. The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  20. Don't worry about your age. The only thing that has an age cutoff is being a captain on an airliner. One of my friends that flies for Delta told me they have quite a few ROPE's (really old pilot engineers) that are flight engineers on 727's because they are too old to fly. If you are friendly with a local DZ, you can probably do some flying right after you get your commercial license (250 hrs required). It doesn't pay much, but it is free flight time. The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  21. His biggest problem is that he has only had an instrument rating for about a year. He has over 3000 hours of twin time though. The ATP test is all instrument work. The 500 hours of cross-country is what gets most people, especially the ones who get all their time flight instructing. I can't believe how much it is costing me to run the Zodiac. With the price of premium unleaded all the way up to $1.34/gallon It's costing me about $5/hr to fly. This is killing me. The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  22. Hmmm... money & free time. You should finish that license so you can fly to more boogies! The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  23. Over half of people who try it are injured. Mostly back injuries that don't really kick in till the next day. You also have no control over the safety factors. I'll stick to skydiving. The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
  24. Gee, I wonder were all the money to finish your license went.
  25. It is not the only B-17 that is still flying. The B-17 that Clay saw is owned by the EAA. It has been in tour in this area recently. The Dutchboy Phil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
