  1. theres a handful of the neptune inthe uk had problems with screens cracking randomly and not switching modes etc...
  2. you guys complain about gas prices.. your not paying 83p PER Litre for unleaded petrol !! it's about £12 for a 5k lift and £19 upto 14k (ish) that equates to $21 for a low lift and $29 fora high lift over here in the good old brittannia !
  3. learn to pack, thats going to get your jump prices down ...
  4. hia there, just tell you about something i did when i was working on my skills.. i aimed for something and worked towards it on 90% of the jumps i did until i got it in this instance it was my FS1 i went up and did solo dives, coached dives all learning FS skills then i had to do the assesment dive... it was great knowing that i could fly flat relative to people exactly where i wanted (within reason) and now (in the british rules) i can jump with my friends who don't have there fs1 it's a great feeling .... learning anything needs time and concentration and by going out and learning sit ... you won't be learning it on 1 jump, you need to go out time and time and time again, and if your trying to get your a it will be counter productive... i'm not trying to be boring here.. each dive can be a laugh if you want it to be all it takes is a few funny faces and flipping people the bird! your saying you think you have trouble starting and stopping turns.... for any thing you think you have a problem with... go up..... and do it and keep doing it until your happy.... always make sure theres something in your dive thats a bit fun.. like a front or backloop to keep the serious level to a minimum.. you shouldn't be scared of jumping solo.... and certainly if your last out .... you've got nothing to think about apart from your altitude awareness and your exercise (before certain others kick off about what i've just said.. i'm taking it exit seperation.. pulling stable blah blah and emergency procedures would be already automatic and not need 1 million percent attention)
  5. i don't think some people understand what this post was about it was general chit chat.. not a i want to be a swooper sponsor me, it was just an i would like to be such and such in such and such a time .....
  6. they would have laughed at how clever they were if the reserve mal'd ....
  7. certainly to a cut and dry solution it would be a case of what am i going to get back from the money i have just spent on this bloke? very similar to a... how much am i going to get back on the money i spent on this advertisment in parachutist or skydive..... maximum exposure with minimum effort thats the key to good marketing so you can put your effort into people who are interested rather than pushing at someone who clearly isn't (i've been there for my own company)
  8. yeah, agreed..... starting small is a better idea, because smaller companys in general want to be seen more and more as cheap as they can get it.. so you have a better chance of getting something so as you said, if Mrs Brubbys Jumpsuit Corp want advertising they can either put an advert on telly for $5000 or whatever.. or they can give some 3 way freefly team who's winning competitions a free jumpsuit each ... it's gonna get in the mag's for free and will hit the exact audience they want all in one go....
  9. i think maybe it's a psycological thing as well.... centre spread such and such wins blah blah comp ... he's got an oddessy on his back and the line reads.. the choice of champions .... the 100 jump reader says oh such and such is a cool gy and he jumps a jav.. if i want to be as good as him, maybe i should get a javelin ... i think now after reading others opinions it deffinatly is a "big pimps out there doing it" get priority (as with anything) why would you give a 3k rig to someone who is going to jump at there local dz when they could give it to a member of team extreme and get it shown off at every opportunity ... guess i'm going to have to pay for my own coaching lol was nice to live the dream for a half hour tho
  10. all good points made.. i certainly wouldn't be in it for the free equipment it's certainly a shame that it isn't a mainstream sport, it's just been bumped from the olympics again i see, where as shooting (dangerous if the equipment malfunctions) is still there as well as other sports that people can be injured on... i dont' see why skydiving isn't it's safer than ski jumping.. least you have a canopy to slow you down!
  11. what kind of instructor rating must you hold? is it uspa only?
  12. Quade, that came across as a bit harsh.... I understand that a newbie isn't a good advertising tool, and that’s not what I was saying in my post. To simply summarise my post as a I’m new I want a sponsorship deal was wrong, thats not what i was talking about. You mustn't have this where you are but in the uk there are an abundance of "camps" as it were for wannabe footballers, they sign up and there coaching is paid for by a big brand name, Coca-Cola or whatever. The company sponsoring it say ooo look, were doing something good to help the new young athletes be professionals some day aren’t we good. Was throwing the subject open for chit chat as to whether there would ever be something like that for canopy piloting. As ever it seams, nothing can be mentioned without someone jumping to a conclusion...
  13. seen it you'll notice i've posted on there in the general section as well .... there is no information related to what i've asked or the converation i want to strike up in any of the thread in the canopypiloting.com (great site by the way) sponsorship forums ...
  14. I have been in the sport now since may 2003 and have seen many many people who are sponsored These guys are mostly people who travel the world at competitions etc. I understand (from running my own company) that to use people as human billboards is a great thing; they can talk to people about the product etc.... For sponsorship to happen does someone need a gazillion jumps, or could someone apply for a "scholarship" or apprenticeship as it were into the canopy piloting scheme? There are many runners footballers etc who start out young and get allot of help from groups financially to help them train and get coaching, how long would it be before the PST runs these kinds of apprenticeships for newer people so that the whole canopy piloting scene moves forward? Is it a realistic investment? What kind of companies are the ones who would sponsor such a scheme? It seams that determination to seek training from your own back is the only way to get a foot in the door of the Canopy piloting vibe, Then a couple of years in funding yourself as a pilot someone will say.. Hey he's a cool guy, he talks to people allot and is always smiling no matter what happens, then give the guy a jumpsuit covered in logos and a wage..... Is this generally the way it happens? Or do you as a pilot approach companies and say listen I have a great deal for you…………. I am very much a new person to skydiving in general but i feel canopy piloting is where my heart is Freefall sure is fun, geeking around your friends spinning around and around in a tube. But there’s nothing beats floating around in the sunset if you want to.. Docking with your friends up there.. Like a bird... Then the next day really pushing yourself burning along a beach seeing the markers whiz by... This really is a recurring wish and dream... And it's only the guys that are already doing it and doing it well, that can help people like me make our dreams a reality
  15. steve even if it wasn't intentional that photo is a cracker, it's all about art mate
  16. i take it these people at this dz who have older rigs arn't in the UK... usually in the uk we flightline check each other, when i do this with people who i don't know i'll ask what they are planning to do on there jump, who they are jumping with and general chit chat while checking there gear.. if there gear isn't upto the challenge of what they are going to do then i will not sign for there check and ask an instructor to check them over, be it 30 or 3000 jumps, i'm not going to put my name to something i don't think is safe.
  17. i think that comes down to a bad pack ... or just shit happening!
  18. check that your line stows arn't corkscrewed, ask a rigger to show you what i mean ... this can induce or even be a twist in the line stows..
  19. in addition, i think with some people the only time when they realise they are wrong is when they prove it to themselves, by either biffing (like i did but it was only a tiny tiny scare that was enough for me to listen) or going in.... i know of a few people who are going to hurt themselves but still choose to not listen, and the only way they will EVER learn is by hurting themselves BADLY.... these people a couple have MORE jumps than me and more experience, but beacuse of this they think they don't have to learn any more and are invincable, i've got under 150 jumps and know that if they carry on they are going to hurt themselves... even from someone who has been there not so long ago... just because i have less jumps i have less knowledge, it's sickening.. i'm not saying i'm a miserable bastard these days.. just alot more aware .. the millisecond you make a wrong move in this game of chess, Gravity will win every single game with sickening regularity....
  20. havn't most of us been there at some point? i know i have and it wasn't until i got away with a bad leg for a couple of weeks on a sabre2150 i shouldn't be badgering people about letting me jump a stilletto 150 ... i've settled on a sabre 1, 150 and shit.. i forgot how nippy these things were .. i'm gonna be happy on the sabre for at least another 200 jumps then maybe get me a VX 39 or summit my i know what i can do and i know i'm good, came at about 60 jumps or so.. didn't take long for reality to kick in that i know fuck all ! here i am at 145 jumps, with both legs and enjoying my life .... thankyou to all the people who made me listen ..
  21. i take it your in the usa then, no-one that i know of at our dz can do 500 jumps in a year! financialy or otherwise.. i certainly can't anyway ... wouldn't it been better put, 500 jumps on a canopy before changing?
  22. got a jump in on friday with a regular old crew dawg top dock bottom dock and landed a 2 stack ... it's all good! anyone have any articles they would recommend on learning CReW ?
