Sorry I confused the thread. I was replying to someone else regarding 'lose the nukes', that arguement in itself was nothing to do with what I had said anyhow. In essence I agree with you. Having nukes didnt stop 9/11, or the july bombings in London. Warfare has changed since the cold war rendering nukes kind of useless....like defending yourself from an agressor in an aeroplane with a gun (sort of). Japan doesnt have a nuclear arsenal but apparently retains the knowledge to make one....or so I hear. Doesnt seem to deter North Korea tossing bombs into the Japanese sea, but Im fairly sure Japan could produce bombs that would exceed N. Koreas wildest dreams. Its a shame that power mad political leaders are wasting their countries monies on trying to piece together nuclear weapons. It just doesnt get you anywhere. Look at the state of the US, Russia and the UK...great stock piles of ageing nuclear weapons and not one ever fired (yet..thankfully).

No way never. I can only imagnie two scenarios: !. You fudge your numbers to 'impress' other skydivers or wuffos. Wuffos wont know either way so its irrelevant. Your peers on the DZ will in time realise your not as good in freefall / under canopy as your jump numbers suggest. You look a prick. 2. You fudge your numbers for employment. This is great until your caught out and for sure you will be. At best youll just look a prick, at worst someone may get hurt as a result of your not posessing the expereince you claim. Maybe there should be some way to document jump numbers..maybe its totally impractical. It strikes me as being very dangerous as well as pathetic.

Firstly, nice one!!! I remember aabsolutley shitting myself as I approached the plane for my AFF hop n pop. And to be honest, getting out low (say 3K) gives me a big rush now. Im thinking this is the legacy of learning to jump via AFF. Oldtimers (and unfortunate English students) who do static line must be wondering what all the fuss is about?

Id say dependant on skill , suit, body position you can track a surprisingly long distance. From being last out the plane I have made up some pretty big distances to get back to the drop zone. Saying that I have landed out to. I only have a few hundred jumps but Id say tracking dives are excellent body position practice for people of every skydiving discipline. If your doing this type of dive definitely let the jumpmaster know, (as you dont want to be tracking accross the path of jumpers). One of my fave ever dives: 21 way tracking dive from the Skyvan at Sydney Skydivers. Loo roll, streemers, carnage!!!

I think we (the UK), should launch all our existing nukes at strategic targets. The republic of ireland, Vietnam, the Bermuda triangle, Sweden, the Falkland Islands etc Basically a bunch of random targets just to really frighten people. By the time we are done nobody would dream of fucking with us...we will have no nukes to maintain and no need to replace them through fear. EDIT: Actually im really undecided on this. Do they act as any form of deterrant really? Certainly they wont ever stop suicide bombers doing their thing. With warfare as it is at the moment there isnt any particular target to bomb anyway. Certainly we cant afford them..or at least the colossal cost should be invested in the NHS / Schools / just about anywhere else! However, the thought of countries like..well, specifically Iran and North Korea having Nukes worries me. Their respective current leaders are maniacs (ok ours isn't to sane either), but I get the feeling either of them would push the button given the chance. So maybe if i had to make the choice I'd go with new nukes but less of them. Bet I get hammered for this one.

"Stick shift" is easier for right handed people when on the left - it means your dominant hand can keep doing the important thing - steering. This is SO true. I have diven stick (manual), 'enthusiatically' both here and in the states. Wether its front, rear or 4 wheel drive you want your dominant hand on the wheel as your changing gears. When I started driving in Califonia I found it very unsettling to take my dominant hand off the wheel! Except to give someone the finger of course. Thats just natural with both hands...and regardless of the side of the road you drive on haha. I'm about to have roast 'tatties and neeps' today...they are tops. Edit : Wait...napes are turnips are they? yuck...i was sure napes was parsnips...shows all I know. Id say 'Plod' was fairly obsolete; ive heard nothing but 'Pig' now for a long time. Round are way they were called 'raddie' for a fair old while....i have no idea where that came from!

Outstanding effort in relaying this story while it was fresh in your mind Bob. When i first read about this journey I wasn't really sure what it was all about - what purpose it was serve. I was a bit worried you might just get out there and go..'what the fuck am I doing here when I could be at home with friends??' Certainly I get the picture now. What an amazing forum this place is ; I wonder what people from other sports communities would make of it?? It has to be unrivalled.
