I can only imagine you have tumbled and span having come out of your track position. If you panic at this point the opposite of what you want will happen. Your body will stiffen and this for sure makes your spin worse...(any stiff limb leg or arm or both) will make your spin speed up. Like a falling sycamore seed if you can picture that. When your body is out of control like that; relax, press your hips to arch and you will be back under control belly to earth. Even if you dont know which way is up at that point, the arch will bring you right. Id say youll need to practice this when you get back. Regaining your compusure quickly and without panic is vital...and great fun. Obviously youll need to go through this story carefully with your instructors. Am I the only person here that finds the hypocritical irony of a skydiver complaining about SUVs wasting fuel? No..i see it to. But the fuel wasting was only one of several reasons why I cant stand these vehicles if you read the whole post. Everyone else seems to have focused on the fuel aspect.

For folks that live on farms or in the mountains - SUVs may be the best choice. Mine is about the only house in the suburban street that does not have a SUV in its driveway. The Chicago freeways are choked with SUVs commuting into the city. At the weekend, the country club parking lot is full of SUVs. The shopping mall lots are full of SUVs. At 8:30a.m. the streets around the grade schools are clogged with SUV moms taking their kids to school (only the lower classes use the free school bus anymore). No-one will convince me that these SUVs are necessary or even desirable for suburbanites except as a fashion accessory. Reply: Nice, thats what Id have said if I could talk without swearing; cheers.

I havent looked through the whole thread so it might have been touched upon, but.... If your basing the decision just on cost then here is a thought. How much are you 'really' spending? I guess this is really a part time versus full time arguement. I wonder how much you can save by doing the course intensively? No constant travel to the DZ every weekend when you could camp there and complete in a week. Also, those weekends you are going to and from the DZ you could be working and saving money instead. This may not sound much, but I bet if you add it up it might make the AFF, SL arguement irrelevant (in terms of cash saving). So my advice!!! Work when you can through the winter and save that cash. Then take a week out and blast it in the spring or summer! Or you could do what someone else sais.....

If its cloudy Id say nobodys going to jump. The SL student will be on the ground with everyone else as his / her jump ticket alone wont put up a jump plane.

Dude id have bet you a pair of lacies youd be in on this thread! hehehe Ok so heres my threpence: Both are cool!!! How could launching from a plane SL or otherwise not be cool???? Both get you to where you want to be; a qualified skydiver. AFF means you get a full freefall expereince right from the start, so maybe your getting more fun. Also by the time you get your A licence you will have clocked up several minutes freefall time. But, if you go SL your soon gonna make this time up once your qualified. PLUS, youll be a fearless hop n popper who can laugh in the face of AFF students scared of getting out the plane at 5000 feet!!! The only time Id say definitely AFF over SL is if your doing this over weekends and you live in a mild / rainy location. I have seen SL students stuck on 5 second delays FOR MONTHS because of this, loose their confidence and give up because of the struggle. Good luck...either way youll have a fantastic experience.

Getting 'good gas mileage' is relative to how much your willing to spend or use. The simple fact is that these vehicles use more than a smaller vehicle. If you own a smaller SUV your basically agreed anyway that bigger is not necessarily better. If you use your SUV as it sounds you do; for its 4x4 capability, to pack full of things inside and on the roof, then great your using it as it should be and Im glad (im not being sarcastic) that you enjoy it. Really my rant (and I know it is) is towards the scores of people who buy these vehicles purely as fashion statement. Their purchase is not based on any practical thought just a need to get something as big or bigger than the next guys. Im happy about the fall in purchase figures not because I hate every SUV driver but because it means people might just be finally waking up and thinking about what they are doing. Its a shame money is the motivator, but whatever works I guess.

Their production consumes vasts amount of energy, carbon and petrochemicals. Their ever-greedy fuel tanks drink colossal amounts of precious non-renewable fuels. They take up ridiculous amounts of space (often in towns where parking is already a premium). And GOD help you if you get hit by one!!! And all this excess vehicle for what? Daily I see one mummy dropping of her one kid at school in these dumb machines...or some yuppy prick putting three shopping bags in the back at the supermarket....yeah, because you needed 2 tons of vehicle to do that didnt you??!!!!! They say...'oh but we NEED a big SUV they are protective and safe!'
