  1. I would give my one cent. (its not worth two, trust me. ill give you two thoughts for one, if you ask) The best thing to keep up BASE currency is to BASE. to do it while skyjumping, i would use a Spectre loaded to .8 or .9, and land as close to shit as possible, always decide what your going to do and where your going to land before you even get on the plane. turn low (flat turns slice, or not toooo low, you know what i mean). make this a model of a base jump. landing on a parking spot, because there is a good chance that in base you will have to do just that. I disagree that the best thing for BASE is a tiny canopy and 1000 jumps. I think that thinking about BASE as much as possible, dreaming, understanding EXACTLY how canopy flies, what happens when it stalls PHYSICALY, what the air does behind it, what air does around a windy building, and what that does to a flying canopy. THINK. muscle memory runs hand in hand with education. usualy, all skydiving needs is muscle memory. because its kinda simple. (dont hit people, pull, dont hit people, flare. thats it)
  2. I dont know you, and your not crowding up my cliffs, valleys, oceans, airplanes, skies (the good ones, not the ones over a dropzone). but, like i said i dont know you. The skydivers i dont like are the ones who think that being a skydiver makes them cooler and better than anybody else. from my experience, being a skydiver, makes one anything but 'cool'. most skydivers like this have nothing but skydiving. and i guess its better than coke, as long as these kids dont try to pick up girls just because they are jumpers. so, i didnt mean anything against you, or anybody like you, i just think its pretty sad when a jumper tries to pick up a girl by showing her his USPA A liscense card. savvy?
  3. Fair enough, my point was that in a small high speed high wing loading high aspect ratio canopy, the same amount of difference between different canopies of the same size/model that would matter noticably would be much greater actual mistakes in sewing. Maybe i missed the point of something as usual. wait, what was the point of this forum? i totaly forgot for a few seconds there, i had to look at the title to remember. ---Being that the BASE pilot chute manufacturers are pretty dedicated to quality, I mean that for real, not these factory made shit quality control promises, REAL quality from hand made stuff that you can only see from the people who CARE about what they are doing. I doubt that this kind of manufacturing will ever be able to be done in a factory setting, unless one can build a machine that can do this perfectly without human interaction. and i doubt that it is worth developing a machine that can make a pilotchute/caontainer/canopy. humans do a good job. just, i think we should stick to the small dedicated companies. if it wasnt such a bitch to build a canopy from scratch, i bet the small companies would do that as well. measuring and cutting equipment is pretty spendy. I have said before, Wwarped, your avatar is the best one i have seen yet.
  4. BASE jumping. Paragliding, Rope jumping, Aerobatic flying, Exploring, Trans Ocean Sailing, Spelunking, I could go on. Dont get me wrong, skydiving is great, but there is a lot of things i would much rather spend a tuesday doing. Most skydivers that i dont like are the ones who think skydiving is the last final an great cats meow.
  5. that actualy, was a good film. i liked it.
  6. of course, a Centimeter off on a rib in a Xaos 69 means a bit more than the same discrepancy in a Blackjack 260. Savvy?
  7. I think the big question would be who got the 30 Billion USD
  8. I bet the BASE specific canopies have a bit more quality control than a skydiveing canopy. for obvious reasons.
  9. Home Slice, I never really thought about googling it Thanks. ! Actualy, i was more hopeing for other jumpers thoughts on it. Not that i hve ANY faith in skydivers at all, but i figure any other hosers on DORKzone.com at this hour would be bit more Schooled at useing the INTERSLUT than a sad little bitch like me. So, how about that billowing flag on the moon? anybody who investigated the photo beyond a 3rd grade level (read, you dont need to know anything about emulsion photography) would have seen that the top of the flag is straight, as if a SUPPORT of somekind was threaded through a sewn in sleeve in the flag, simple so it would look like an american flag, not a scrotum hanging on a stick. Astronaughts, are smart, but not as smart as the engineers that got them there. obviously SOMEBODY thought that MAYBE since the non existant atmosphere of Luna is pretty STILL, we should make it look like its blowing. But of course, some hoser also didnt think to place the flag more than 10 or 15 meters away from the Lander, so it was blown to shit by the ascending LM when it launched. I know you did not back this up, but i have read that argument before, and i want to strip that author of his HS diploma, and kick him in the balls. fucktard.
  10. My favorite Documentary is by far HBOs 'from the earth to the moon', and i have peice of shit retarded freinds that actualy doubt that it happened. sighting that they have evidense enough against it to believe that it never happened. so, to figure out what the hell they are talking about, I would like anybody here to post the evidense, in link or txt form, that would show that it never happened. I have had dinner with several Astronaughts that were there, and they seem pretty believeable. Arguments both ways are appreciated, I was never one to not listen to both sides.
  11. sweating girls are hot. wet girls in any way are pretty hot. short of piss. girls that like piss disgust me. they really do. I love it when my girl sweats enough where i hve to chnge the sheets before falling asleep, of course, usualy the liquid is some other female secretion that is also hot.
  12. very rarely do i disagree with tom, but i guess i do now. I would guess that what you are writing there is much more opinion than actual fact, canopies are made by humans, and they do inevitably differ from canopy to canopy. but the actual differences between two same size/model/color canopies are probably so small for a human to notice, i would guess it would take some pretty exact measuring equipment to even tell the difference in the canopies. I bet the only thing that might matter at all would be spanwise fabric stretch discrepancies and porosity. I have 3 Assemetrical color canopies, none of wich seem to have any heading problems at all, the only problem i hve had is a dagger that likes to turn to the left

    Carry On

The only thing you should be ready for when carrying on a BASE specific rig, is unpacking it. there should be no problem at all with it. The stash bag fits in the carry on size constraint, and try to mail your hook knife, they let mine on last week, but i doubt they even noticed it. so, if they look at it, they might not let it go. I fly standby (freinds as airline pilots is awesome), so 100USD on way tickets worldwide is awsome, unless you cant walk.
  14. Well, ill take a shot. Im still recovering, so im just sitting here. I got into the Idea of BASE jumping, while i was watching TV with my best freind, (who I recently taught how to BASE) We were 13 years old, and I dont even remember the actual show, but there was a special on the sport of BASE, and it was the first time i had ever heard of it. I remember Tombstone, and clips from Half Dome, but I turned the TV off after that, and we both knew for a fact, that there was nothing else that we wanted to do. and, now, we are 21, and have 200 BASE jumps between the two of us. My first BASE jumps i did when i was 18. My girlfreind from the UK (a BASE jumper) convinced me to drive her up to the perrine, and she packed for me twice, I had 45 skydives at the time. That was a great weekend. BASE fits into my life amoung a lot of other things, Its just another one of the things i spend time and money on. I also Paraglide, Hang Glide, Fly Aerobatic Aircraft, and fly for a liveing, I Kiteboard, Rope jump, Fly RadioControl Sailplanes, and Edit Films as a side job, and when i have nothing else to do, i spend as little money as possible skydiving. BASE Is just another thing that i have to train for and spend time on.
  15. I would have to say that the only thing that would make a difference in heading performance when it comes to different canopies would be the canopy size, and aspect ratio. The lower the aspect ratio, the better the heading performance, the higher the wing loading, or smaller the canopy size. (and/or the canopy weight, due to the effectivness of the pilot chute, the speed it extracts the canopy) (in slider down/off), the better the heading performance. This is all considering the canopy is a base specific 7 cell.
  16. whoa. dude. if i had ANY faith at all in Dorkzone.com posters i would be on your side. but seriosly. i guess bitching about this is just another testament to dorkzone posters like myself. cheers. I have no problem with semi-creative titles. I really hope that is a joke.
  17. I always use masking tape. even slider off.

    MAUI locals?

I fly standby for free these days, so its carry on only for me. no rig still. i would rather bring my paraglider here now though. next time ill ship both.

    MAUI locals?

im heading up the volcano on maui this morning, ill check out the Es up there. wind is sketch out here. always. thats why im kiteing. thanks guys.

    MAUI locals?

i dont know if there is any good shit out here. but i got freeish airline passes and a lot of time. im on maui for another week, anybody out here? i dont have gear, i like the whole carry on only thing. but i would like to come back with some, borrow mayby? just want to know about the windmills and shit.
  21. Very false. Gravity at sea level is different than gravity at the top of Mt. Everest. *** a person at altitude of H meters above sea level experiences and acceleration due to gravity of a= g*R2/(R+H)2 I dont do math. but last time i split hairs that much, that equated to an insanely small mumber. as in a hundreth or thousandth of a (M)2 acceleration.
  22. dude. i have explained this before in the sliderup skydiverig helicopter question forum 1-horizontal and verticle velocity decays and increases independantly of eachother. 2-weight is NOT a factor in acceleration from gravity. it IS however a factor in actual terrminal speed. did anybody else pay attention in HS physics? 3-this question has no value other than personal curiosity, because the times it takes different eople to get to terminal has far to many variables to give the true answer. ( falling object shape/shape shifting/falling object density/ air density/humididty variables/ wind/ empty or full lungs/ etc) but, you did specify the averager time to get to trerminal. so.... about 8-12 seconds, remember, skydivers LOVE to attach definates to different questions and values. because, in all reality, they like to believe that skydiving is a science and really totaly safe. BASE jumpers dont think like that. in my theory, the time to reach terminal out of an aircraft traveling at 70tas, is a lot harder to figure even a ballpark acceleration time than off a tower.
  23. A fellow BASE jumper and a fellow towpilot, two of my best freinds, were lost in a plane crash over the continental divide yesterday morning. I will miss Heather McRoberts and Dave Para forever. They know something now that i do not. I had just brought Heather to the Perrine bridge on the 10th of july for her first 4 BASE jumps. She was good. Nobody will ever be able to match her spirit. I promise you that. Dave, Heather, and I were towpilots together for a long time, Dave and Heather were probably the best towpilot at MHG has ever seen. They died in Alexs and my 1969 American Champion Citabria over the continental divide. there is hardly any details, and DAMN the fucking MEDIA. so i will give you what i know. Heather has been a liscensed pilot since she was 15. (is now 19) she had close to 1000 hours, almost all of then tailwheel. I would ride with her anyday. Dave has been a Liscensed pilot for 3 years at least. also near 1000 hours, again almost all tailwheel. Two extremely current and able pilots, with almost ALL their time in aircraft nearly exactly like a Citabria. cause is still unknown. I am leaving to go Backpack up to my crashed airplane, im not sure if the FS or Insurance is getting it out of where it is. it is pretty far back there. I will write more when i get back. If you pray, pray for Dave and Heather.
