  1. I don't need a degree or latest edition of a book. I think most people since ancient times have recognized people like this and avoided them if at all possible. One need not be from Thespiae to recognize Narcissus. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  2. Going to source documents is almost always a good idea. If there is a story without a link to the source document, you can almost always be assured it's either laziness or deliberately spinning what they don't want you to see. You probably don't want either of those. I'm also a big fan of cross checking analysis against various sides of an issue. Try to not get your news from just one source you happen to like, but also read some that wasn't specifically targeted for your demographic or beliefs. Question everything. Lastly, don't make "perfect" the enemy of "good." You'll never find the perfect anything and the lesser of two evils . . . well, that's at least less evil[/I]. This is what I'll never understand about anyone who didn't pick the lesser of two evil options in this latest US election; they allowed evil to win. And not just a little evil, but it appears as if it's a historic level of evil for the US. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  3. I would have never figured you for a liberal arts major. TTIL. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  4. Cute. I'll forgive the cultural appropriation by a foreign made product. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  5. Nothing to do with that. You've obviously missed several things that have gone on in Russia in the last couple of days; members of Kasperski Labs getting arrested, a member of the FSB being arrested, this FSB guy getting killed. Speculation is Putin will shortly say something to the effect of, "yes, something with 'rogue agents' happened, but it was unauthorized and has been taken care of." quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  6. This is a con. Not your son's opinion, but the thing being perpetrated by the oligarchy. Make the people trust no one's facts so then they can do whatever they want. Orwell talked about it in 1984. Hitler talked about it in Mein Kampf. Chayefsky talked about it in Network. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  7. Maybe I don't have insurance at a high enough level or whatever, but mine doesn't cover civil unrest. I think terrorism isn't covered either. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism_insurance quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  8. Honestly, I'm less worried about domestic Trump properties than I am foreign ones. Regardless of whether he owns them or not, the name Trump on a building makes it a juicy target for terrorism. I wrote about that here on SC awhile ago. People dismissed the idea. People aren't dismissing it now. So what happens when one of these Trump buildings gets blown up and the terrorists say it's because of the person sitting in the Oval? quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  9. Logic. The pure logic of what would follow if troops were deployed. It is an inevitable and unescapable conclusion of the act. As surely as the first move in a chess game will inevitably lead to pieces being taken, soon after troops are deployed, people would be killed. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  10. Average citizens going about their business in a city (regardless of the crime rate or whatever) doesn't make them "enemies." "Following orders" does not absolve a soldier from human rights violations and international law. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superior_orders quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  11. No. We're hoping we have at least a few folks in the military willing to disobey illegal orders. We're hoping he has trouble finding troops willing to kill US citizens with little provocation. We're hoping we don't fall into a civil war for no damn good reason. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  12. And yet . . . that's precisely where he seems to be heading. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  13. I am of the opinion that most of us on here think that he is irrational at best. He might just give this a go. The question becomes, what would the military actually do if he tried to declare Marital Law? Jerry Baumchen My guess is the delay so far has been finding just the right general with people below him who have supported Trump and are willing to do so for future advancement. Once the unit is in place, they don't really have to do much. Even if they just roll into town it's going to be a nightmare and as soon as somebody throws the first rock . . . it's on. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  14. My guess is we're only a few weeks (maybe less) away from Trump making "an example" out of an entire city by authorizing a military response to normal citizen actions. If you're going to keep track of anti-Trump violence, my guess is at that point you're going to have your hands full of stuff that's going to make everything you're whining about here look benign. http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/does-trump-feds-tweet-mean-national-guard-no-thanks-some-say/ quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

  16. You might want to check the poll being referenced rather than the Breitbart spin of it. https://morningconsult.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/170103_crosstabs_POLITICO_v3_KD-1.pdf quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

  18. Please show me where Obama silenced the National Park Service over trivial matters such as retweeting a photographic comparison of something. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  19. If you read the article, it sounds like the one man they arrested and couple of other people they're looking for planned to use it mostly for its stink bomb properties as opposed to physical harm. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  20. Nope. We think he will do as he recently said he'd do and eliminate 75% of all regulations on businesses which will leave them free to do whatever they want. See, that's how laws in the US work; if something isn't specifically outlawed, then it is allowed. He doesn't need to "sign an executive order authorizing fracking waste water to be dumped into our lakes and rivers." All he has to do is eliminate the ones which currently make it against the law. Some companies have shown time and time again that even if something is completely illegal, they'll try to get away with it anyway. If there is no law whatsoever, they'll almost always take advantage of it. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  21. The other day it was made clear by the current Administration the National Park Service and other government agencies were absolutely not to post anything on twitter without approval and in compliance with his wishes. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/21/politics/trump-national-park-service-tweets/index.html That was chilling to say the least. Today there has been an epic twitter battle going on where some National Parks and other agencies are ignoring him and posting science facts. Notably, climate science. This is going to be interesting and very telling in how the Administration handles it. For instance: https://twitter.com/GoldenGateNPS/status/823624278230695936 https://twitter.com/NASAClimate/status/824027184142565376 I know of at least one case where at least one NPS tweet today was removed. https://twitter.com/garywhitta/status/824022649760161792 Vanity Fair story: http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/01/national-park-service-defies-trump-gag-order-tweets-climate-change-facts quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  22. I was thinking a pool or "over/under" on how long it takes the new president to be impeached. I mentioned in a post here a week or so ago in SC that it looked like he'd be the first person to ever take office while violating the US Constitution. Pretty amazing. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  23. Not by Trump personally, but his policies of deregulating environmental law. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  24. Says this guy, "If Trump really works at it, maybe we can have another river catch fire before he leaves office!" BillV Did you want to place a futures bet that between today and Jan 20, 2020 there is or isn't going to be a river fire in the US? quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  25. This isn't even metaphorically correct. A pie can not be infinite. Sure it can; Ever try counting the number of digits in pi? Now you're being irrational. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
