  1. I thought the same thing. And I don't live in Central Florida. ~skysprite
  2. I'm going to give you really dorky pre-teen "huggles" in return instead of "hugs," just 'cuz.
  3. That quote says to me that your faith isn't faith based, but is in fact fear based, yes? ~skysprite
  4. But children read fantasy and fiction books, and generally understand that that's all it is. Sure they might make up games involving what they read or watch, but I'd be more inclined to believe they play that they have a daemon, or have bear or witch friends, in this case. It absolutely isn't my place to tell anyone how to raise their children and I want to make that clear. But for me, I don't see this as a problem. Let the child read the book then ask questions. At that point if you feel you have to, reaffirm yours and their beliefs then. Make a lesson out of it, if you're so inclined. I want my faith to be complete. So in order to do that I asked questions, I researched other belief systems. I had gone to about six different churches in my youth with my parents because they wanted me to make my own decisions. In the end I went with what was most comfortable. I realize I'm arguing an entirely different point because the parents in this thread want to teach their faith without question, but all of the adults that I know who had religion force fed to them all rebelled after they grew up anyway. Wouldn't it be better to let them view other thoughts, then ask questions wherein you can have a genuine heart to heart with them, and not just tell them "this is how it is" but let them discover faith in a comfortable, relaxed, and loving atmosphere? Sorry for the tangent. This is why I don't come in here that often. ~skysprite
  5. This is so rediculous. I thought this was just going to be a great movie and I didn't know that this was a trilogy of books until after I heard about the boycotts and controversy. So of course I went right out and purchased the books. I'm currently about a third of the way through The Subtle Knife. I find it hilarious that people are afraid of a book. Have you no faith in your, well, faith? Will introducing a so called athiest theme in a fictional book really bring ruin to your beliefs? If anything, shouldn't it make them stronger because you can appreciate a good story about another's ideas of the creator, or lack thereof, while still holding true to your beliefs? Seriously, it's a good story so far, and visually an amazing movie! Daemons, armored bears, witches! Fun stuff! Lastly, as stated I'm only into the second book right now, but I've also read on the net that the most offensive part is when the children kill God at the end of the series. However, from what I've found the "God" they kill is actually a false god, the first/fallen angel, otherwise known as Satan. Errrm, isn't that a good thing, that is if you believe in Satan? What are people upset about? First intentional post in SC. ~skysprite
  6. Took it earlier but ended up closing the window before I grabbed a screenie of it. Whoops. Took it again and answered slightly different (in less of a hurry so took some time to think about it) and this is what I got.
  7. 6 months, and that jump was a recurrency jump. ~skysprite
  8. I don't know, but I need to start signing on AIM more often so I can resume getting really random and odd messages from him at 2:30 in the morning. ~skysprite
  9. Today my boss is sucking helium out of balloons here in the office and is totally cracking me up with the shit he's coming up with to say! Who says you have to be boring, if you're the boss? Tell me why your boss is cool.
  10. Hey! I was in 2nd grade in '92! That's the other thing - I never took the ACTs or SATs so this is my first "big test" that I can't find a loophole to get out of! I suppose it's karma that I have to take this now. ~skysprite
  11. My GRE is scheduled for this Friday. In true skysprite fashion, I haven't studied a damn thing for it yet. I'm told that as of this fall, the test was changed and made more difficult. Others say they only added new types of questions, whatever that means, and that's the only change. I can confirm the "new types of questions" but am mostly concerned over whether they made the quantative reasoning section more difficult. Has anyone taken them recently and can tell me more? I'm taking the general test, by the way. ~skysprite
  12. And they think that it plays a factor in Alzheimer's (sp?). However, try and find just a deodorant - all of the frickin' things in the aisle are "deodorant/anti-perspirant" combos. You can find aluminum free deodorant at health food stores. I recently switched over to Tom's of Maine and I like it. I used to use Mitchum, but this actually works better for me and I like their scents much better than any of Mitchum's too. Deodorant is Al free. Al is the active ingrediant in antipersperants, Okay so I should have said aluminum/anti-persperant free deodorant, but I didn't think I'd need to spell it out. Forgive me Remi. ~skysprite

  14. Hope you had a very Happy Birthday Kris!
  15. Guess I'm not normal either, cause my Friday night plans consist of finishing my chinese food and watching Ratatouille, then some pleasure reading before bed. ~skysprite
  16. My sister has a pretty intense "test" of sorts at OSC with the Navy today, so please take a minute to send her a positive thought or six! This is part of the email I sent her this morning to let her know I'm thinking of her... She's my big sis, and I know she'll be awesome, but a few extra vibes never hurt anyone! ~skysprite
  17. I borrowed my boss' camera and he still hasn't sent me the pictures off of it. There weren't that many because as it turned out cameras weren't allowed inside though. But still waiting for the couple that I did take. I really enjoyed the concert! At times the sound sucked and made them sound bad, but I think that was an equipment/venue problem more than anything else. They opened with "Bye Bye Beautiful" (they had to, I mean c'mon!) and closed with "Wish I Had an Angel." I think they played two songs that I didn't know too well, but mostly did songs from Dark Passion Play and Once. I agree that there are some songs that Anette's just not going to be able to do like Tarja, but she did a great job with the Tarja songs they did do. And she has an awesome stage presence and a fun accent when trying to say "Albuquerque!" You may know this already, but Tarja put out a solo album. People were passing out stickers at the concert. It's called My Winter Storm and will be in stores February '08, but you can buy it on iTunes now. Based on the few clips I've heard, it's not Nightwish (old or new) but it does sound good. ~skysprite
  18. Just saw it this evening and I enjoyed it.
  19. Have a Very Happy Birthday, Krisanne!
  20. Happy Birthday Beth! ~skysprite
  21. Ah, a NSFW duck! ~skysprite
  22. Love Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story. We also always watched White Christmas as a tradition too! ~skysprite
  23. Yes! Turkey sandwich the next day! Or even late that night! ~skysprite
  24. Right on, J. Best thing to do is say a prayer, send vibes, good thoughts, or whatever you're comfortable with, for all parties involved. I hope for a speedy recovery for Woody, and comfort for his family and friends, and I hope that PotatoHead is able to sort his issues out and get help, no matter where or what that means. Vibes/prayers also go to Jill because whoever she is, her name was drug into this as well. Lastly, I know this is a serious situation and I'm not trying to make light of it, but did anyone else unfamiliar with the GA crew think this thread was going to be a weird Toy Story joke, after reading the subject? ~skysprite
  25. Yeah... happy birthday Kristi... and wait did you and Eric get a puppy? how exciting!!! what kind?
