  1. You want the official version or real world version? Better to go ask your DZO and the TI your planning to jump with. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Everything we do should have a greater purpose.
  2. I'll trade ya. I've made 3 jumps in nearly 2 years. Seriously be grateful. This shit is supposed to be FUN. If your not having fun then maybe you should find something else to do as this isn't a cheap nor a forgiving sport. If you turn it into work and disappointment bad things are going to happen and I'm not taking just accidents. Your quality of life should not suffer because of skydiving it should be enhanced. Relax and enjoy the moment instead of chasing a moment.. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. 3. I have a BUNCH of sabre2 jumps had a 230-210-190 the 190 was the hardest opening canopy I ever jumped. It would spank me out of the blue. Took me out of a "big way" camp at Perris. Thought I broke my back. couldn't move my legs and couldn't see anything but a blurr for what seemed like forever. I was praying I had a good canopy as I couldn't see anything and I had dumped sub 2000 as I was in the base and had to out track a knuckled tracking above and behind me. Needless to say I got rid of that canopy and bought another Pilot 188 that I had in my second rig that was the smoothest opening canopy ever and more responsive then my Sabre2. I know have a Pilot 210 demo canopy and the 188. My 188 in my current rig tends to turn right on opening. We have checked the trim and lines and we cant figure out why it turns probably something I am doing and not realizing it but the openings are always smooth. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a pilot and when I go to upsize id consider going back to the sabre2 230. I loved that canopy wish I hadn't sold it now :( MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. 5. Life insurance is going to ask if you skydive. DO NOT LIE! They will insure you but at a higher rate. Also most insurances are vested after 2 years so very little will nullify not even suicide but if you lie about anything like jumping or smoking or being a junkie your family will get nothing and they will find out so don't risk it tell the truth ALL OF IT. Now from one Dad to the next my kids love that I jump and both want to jump when they are 18. My daughter thinks she only wants to do it once or twice so I can jump with her but the boy has big dreams of jumping with his dad. I just hope I am still able to jump in 10 years when he can finally jump. Life is short even shorter if your a dumbass so just don't be a dumbass and you'll be fine :) MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. 6. I'm with you. The first person to have never screwed the pooch on a jump raise their hand. Sure these guys hummed it low and they shouldn't have had gopros etc etc but hell I was the low jumper at 850ish jumps out of 6 others on a pops jump that dumped milliseconds before we pissed off our cypress's (I think one had turned his off since we had been dumping at 2k on the record jumps). Only had one 2 out but should have been 6 since we ALL went to our mains. Made for a damn good picture though..oh and only the camera guy had a camera not the others in the base or the other 17 people on the load..so if even old should of known betters can screw up geeking the camera newbies should really think about wearing one and watch this but beating these guys to death for something nearly everyone I know has done at some point (go beyond fucking low) is grandiose self righteousness..I'm glad they had the balls to post this. Beating people up will just have them hiding their screw ups instead of sharing for others to learn from. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. 10. I only made the one jump. Glad we floor it as the tandems started right back up after the head down record attempt. It's pretty sad I've made 56 jumps since I hit 1000 3 years ago :( not jumping at all for a year because of surgery hasn't helped. I am going to make a push this next spring and summer to get in shape to put in for the p3 camp. Pro rating and 100way and jumping with my kids are what's left on my skydiving bucket list. Daughter is 15 so pretty sure I'll be ok for her tandem not sure about the boy he is 8 unless we go to South Africa or Australia. The Wayne is growing through we might be able to fly in the tunnel together soon. Soon if he gets on his head and can fly in the fast wind :) MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. 15. 100% agreement. ONly thing I'd add for the OP is that you should do some hop and pops on your current main to get an idea of what that would feel like. Make note of your alt when you leave, clear the plane, deploy, and then make note of your alt so you know what to expect. Something to keep in mind with subterminal openings is that youre not falling straight down, you are going to have some forward throw from the airplane. So you will travel further than your altitude loss because you're not going straight down. however you're also not going that fast, so after you pitch, you should fully expect to feel the deployment take a longer time. I'd describe it as "mushy" and "lazy". Do a bunch of those until you feel perfectly comfortable with the altitude loss and the deployment characteristics. That said i'm on board with the rest of the advice--if you're getting out low go straight to silver. Not only will you open faster, but considering you're not going to have much exit separation, I wouldn't want to be sniveling down into other canopies that might already be deployed below me. This....(silver)emergency means your not the only one coming out. Also it means you don't have time to be thinking about what you are going to do as you should have already done it by the time you have made up your mind as to what to do. This is assuming this is a low altitude emergency. If your on jump run and the plane stalls and your lucky enough to get out then id track away and dump high to watch and see if anyone else got out and if they are going to need help and land with them.. 18. Funny I've been worrying a lot that I wont have a choice to make and my body is about to tell me I'm done. I have made 3 skydives in the last year and a half one a demo a week before my surgery into my customer appreciation day we hold for our customers last year. Then I had surgery a week later (fused C5-6-7) and 2 this year after a year of recovery time. On all 3 I was more worried about the opening so much so that I didn't really enjoy the jumps. Well except for the one Saturday, that one I loved the feeling of flying head down chasing my customer that won the tandem skydive we give away each year. Man I love chasing tandems..But when I tracked away the fear of the opening came back.. :( The doctor told me the fusion is stronger then my neck ever was but the nagging fear from that and not having jumped in eons it seems makes for a miserable plane ride and jump. All I could think of was having a slammer and flying paralyzed into the ground or the plane crashing into the mountain :( For me that has always been my biggest issue, the plane ride. It took me 25 jumps to not to argue with getting back on the plane after I finally got back down. I have the same irrational argument with myself after a long layoff. Before it went away after I left the aircraft but now with my neck fusion it was all I could think about on 2 of the 3 jumps and right at pull time on the jump Saturday. I told my wife I have accomplished almost everything I wanted from jumping except my PRO rating, a 100 way in my log book and to be with my kids when and if they decide to make their first jump. Next year my health permitting the first two will be my goals. As for my kids I hope I make it through my kids 18th's birthdays. My daughter is 15 so hers maybe but my son just turned 8. Not sure I will even be walking straight at 58 let alone jumping so we will see. I know most of that has nothing to do with what your feeling but I wanted to share it to show our brains are funny things and if your not enjoying it then that is a really expensive and stupid way to spend a weekend. For me Saturday saved me as if I spent the WHOLE skydive miserable I probably would have a different story to tell today but that jump reminded me WHY I jump out of perfectly good airplanes and why I will still for the foreseeable future will continue.. 19. Hey now! You're making it sound unprobable that I are smart. You said it not me
  20. I get why your upset and agree with you :) So yes I get why everyone else is upset :) What my SWAG is concerning is why the certain folks are reluctant to take action against a friend because of the ramifications that will open that friend up to. I would bet dollars to donuts I'm right AND I agree 100% with what your saying. He should have been removed immediately but again doing so proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he was not only negligent but grossly negligent because he had total care custody and control of not only the dropzone but the safety and training of all skydivers in the USA. Just one of those puts him at a higher risk both pretty much guarantees he loses in court. Should that matter? Nope he should be held to the exact same standards as any other ratings holders. Notice I didn't say skydiver as ratings holders are by the very nature held to a much higher standard as it can be proven they know better and being the top dog an even higher standard as you have stated over and over. So again YES I get it :) MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. 21. It's guesswork to speculate about others' state of mind, especially a group of others. That being said, assuming Rich wasn't performing his jump on behalf of the USPA or in the course of his duties with the USPA (and despite the old canard that anyone can try to sue anyone for anything), I see no basis for any liability claim at all against the USPA arising out of this incident. No, but a public statement from USPA with some sort of punitive action would surely be a great asset in a lawsuit against the jumper. So, if you want to protect your friend... You are the only person that gets it. Amazing really. I read this WHOLE thread and the only one that gets what is really happening is Remi. Care custody and control. Andy should get it but maybe he doesn't want to chime in and feed the sharks but this is about CYA. If he was disciplined he would be served up on a silver platter to the sharks which he still may very well be. A spectator isn't beholden to any "waiver" and they don't cover gross negligence which is what it would be considering he was/is the head of Safety for the whole sum of skydiving in the US let alone a DZO which puts him in care, custody and control. I don't have a law degree and would be able to walk in and win this in 10 minutes if he was found guilty and punished by the USPA. Nothing else matters no matter what DSE or "Twardo was told you guys have my utmost respect and I get the smoke and mirrors but we are all grown ups and being scared of losing everything SHOULD keep one from doing stupid shit and when you do STUPID shit that injures others it should be extremely painful.. Still amazed only Remi figure that out.. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. 22. I didn't wade through all the "support the sport blah blah blah" BS. I ALWAYS throw services/extra's in to any deal I make and I can't remember the last time someone paid retail on an large purchase from me. I personally would have negotiated upfront and walked if they were unwilling to negotiate but this bullshit that you have 7k to spend and you should be grateful is liberal bullshit. It is your money you earned it and you deserve it. Quade I haven't ever cared for you but your comment "It is particularly douchy to flaunt that in the faces of people and ask for "free" services from people who work hella hard to provide a service that saves people's lives." was so far out of line and a personal attack the fact your still green is disgusting and far and away more "douchy" then anything the OP did or said..
