How can you put a study conducted by the CDC up against "facts" published by pitbullsontheweb.com???? And you expect people to take you seriously???? SHEESH!!! My son brought a pit bull home a few months back, and I really, really liked the dog. BUT in my mind, form follows function. Big muscular jaws belong to a dog that bites....and intends to kill something. I disagree, as would most people with experience with pit bulls. If you are looking for an innately aggressive dog, check out Jack Russell Terriers. The challenge of ownership with them is to train them to be nice. Pit Bulls are innately gentle dogs; they just have great strength and size, making them appealing to assholes that want to train their dogs to be mean and aggressive. Ya' just see it happen too often that somebody's "nice" pit bull (heck, it's never been aggressive before...the family pet...blah, blah, blah) attacks someone. Unfortunately, unlike what would happen if my little Cairn Terrier were to attack someone, when a dog like this DOES attack it's likely to seriously injure the attackee. All dog breeds are not the same. Heck, study any breed of dogs, and part of what you'll expect to learn about is their temperment. They don't come into the world with a blank slate. In 1985 the dean of students decided that if most of the school wasn't legal to drink, she had to do something about it. So she cracked down, sent the campus police to parties, made sure we were checking ID's etc. Some results - people drank heavily before they came to a party in case they couldn't get alcohol there, people tended to hide their drinking and far more fights broke out around the parties. Ha. My college did the opposite....of course it was a very small (1000 students) Methodist liberal arts college in a dry county. They turned their heads to any drinking on campus, because at least we weren't out driving. We all walked to parties, because those of us who didn't live on campus lived within a couple blocks of campus. I respect some people's opinions, but other people's I don't. I have a healthy respect for gravity and how quickly it can turn a person to dust. Although I would not discount individuals acting on imbalanced minds, its laughable to think that there is some sort of grand conspiracy afoot in these cases. The article I read said he got out of the truck and started firing at police. Either way, his death was well-earned. Blues, Dave Maybe so. I haven't read much....just heard about it all afternoon as it was on my doorstep. The word I got was that the guy was found dead after crashing his truck after being shot. It makes more sense that he would have gotten out of the truck and fired at officers. The guy who shot him was in turn shot while driving his truck on Hwy 67/167 S. The question is "did he deserve to die?" Absolutely. Bill Gwatney has done quite a lot for our state. When I worked at Arkansas Children's Hospital, there was an old guy who lived in a big house with a big yard across the street from the hospital. Well, he died. His GSDs ate him.
