  4. I met Pete at CSS shortly after i moved to the US. I was a fresh WS Pilot back then and made my first small flocks with him. I would have loved to meet him again at a Flock n Dock, but unfortunatly we never made it to the same event again. Frank If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  5. There are a couple of threads on this, but they are probably not easy to find :-) I have commented on a few. We built ours from the following materials: Round steel tube from a mosquito net, the type that you can hang over a bed. F111 tube sewn by out rigger. Cutaway cables Resere handle as grip (not the best choice) Bungee cord. A Ring aprox 3 centimeters in diameter some webbing. The cutaway cable makes a net on which the tube gets stuffed on, bungees cord hold it onto the net creating the release mechanism. This is the type of tube i prefer. There was a german webpage showing how this type of tube looks, but i can't find it anymore. Be sure to get very good instructions on how to use the tube and be sure you are capable of flying with it, our tube also hugged a canopy a little too much :-) But the reserved opened fine. 7. I am typing this on my 4 year old ASUS notebook right now. I bougt it in germany but had to get it repaired while i was living in the US, it took a while for them to believe i have a 48 month warranty since i bought it in the EU. After that they replaced the mainboard, Harddrive, Keyboard and Battery. Took two weeks all in all, but it all worked out. It has a few mechanical issues and i am not sure it will last that much longer so i am thinking of buying a now notebook. Hopte that helped a little. 8. That is correct, although some riggers in Germany like to stick to the 15 years, what is relevant though is what the manufacturer recomends. I asked PD about the lifetime of my reserve an got a very good explaination on what determines a Reserve lifespan. Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  9. Thanks for all the input. In the end we all landed with the plane and everyone was ok with that. I was just a bit disturbed that this was reason for a little discussion and one of tenthousand jumpwonders :-) on the ground said we should have jumped. I have seen the same issue twice on a Turbolet (Twin Otter size), but in that case the plane was big enough to keep the jumper safely in the front of the plane. 10. The above happend last week, i was wondering what most people think, still courious though if i was right. Details: Reserve is not out of the container, reserver Pilotchute and bridle is. Cessna 206 has a fabric door, same as i explanied in the Thread about the observer incident in Stadlohn Germany. 4 jumpers left on the plane Not to experienced jump pilot No Students, no Tandems everybody 300+ jumps. Not saying the details matter, but to some people they might. Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  11. Why would be feel forced to go jump a Ballon? The whole theory of a sucessfull wingsuit jump is available online and in the manuals. He could have easily gone to another dropzone, do a couple tracking jumps with pull practices for wingsuit deployment. After that he could have done a nice first flight with plenty of time to get stable and even do several real wingsuit practice pulls. This would not be the way i recomend starting wingsuit jumps, but a lot safer than taking your first flight from a Balloon. I have never been asked if i got a first flight course by a wingsuit instructor at any dropzone. The question you asked is a good question but i don't have a definite answer to it. The prevention of the fatality in Austria would not have required formal wingsuit instruction, just judgement or he should have just remembered from this skydiving instructor to keep it simple when you try new stuff. 12. Good judgement not to do his first WS out of a Ballon (with a Base rig)? Check? If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  13. This just shows that jump numbers are not everything, with 350 jumps total and BASE experience he should have known that it is not a good idea to do more than one new thing at a time. I know several jumpers that have serveral hundred jumps that should not fly a wingsuit. If the instructors found him not suitable to fly a wingsuit, then why should they teach them? Somebody that is not focused, not altitude aware and that has no feeling for the canopy is going to be very hard to teach how to swoop. Same goes if he doesn't have consistend good landings. 14. Got one and like it a lot. When i bought mine it is was probalby one of the most popular camera helmets. If you are buying used, check if there is a camera box available for your camera. http://www.rawa.com.br/ If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  15. 50 meter (164.0415ft) is a nice safe distance and still gives you time to react in case something goes unexpected. TI has to approve and there needs to be a plan. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  16. I made one jump on a rig (Paratec Next) with that type of hardware and it worked fine, they stayed thight a lot better then the ones on my Icon. There are two ways of forging in both ways the material is heated. Cold forging is at lower temperature and makes stronger parts, but requires a lot stronger stamping machines and more expensive tooling. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  17. Skydive Marche (http://skydivemarche.com/) is an awesome place to skydive. Two weeks ago i organized a skydiving vacation for a group of 16 friends and we had a great time. Usually they are not open during the week except during special events. Contact them, Ilario speaks english and is great to work with, ask him if he has something planned for the timeframe you intend to go. I have also been to skydive tortuga, but that was years ago. 19. My Neptune failed last weekend, set itself to the Serial Number screen while i was in the plane and all alarms sounded 500m to early. Would not have noticed if i wouldn't have pulled it out of the sleve to check the time in the plane. I knew it commonly skips the first Freefall and Swoop alarm if the batteries are empty but this was new to me. Haven't had my Pro Track fail, but this weekend i forgott to close the pouch and i lost it on opening My FT50 mechanical hasn't failed in the last 850 jumps. 21. Should be the same materials as paragliders, i think they are also usually the same manufacturers. Try http://www.skysticker.de Found them in one of my paragliding magazines, check a paragliding forum for more, maybe even english speaking.:-) Frank If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  22. Will he fly his chopper to our event free of charge? :-) I am guessing it is only 7000 or 8000 miles to Germnay :-) Thank you very much everyone, we will see what is the best options are for us plan with that. Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  23. Ok, sounds like if we would take a Robinson then it would be 5000feet and not much more. How long will it take to 5000feet? Takeoff elevation would allready be 1800ft. that probably makes 5000ft allready borderline. Is 5000ft even reasonable with this takeoff elevation? Fixed Wing aircraft is not going to be an option, it has to be a helicopter i am just trying to figure out if a Robinson will do or if we can take something like the AS350. I have jumped the AS350 and it was very fast at altitude and that is also the problem when we need to keep it flying. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  24. Hello Everyone, i am looking for information on the Robinson R44 Helicopter. Anybody have any idea on: Time to Altitude? Tournaround time? How high will it climb, will it make it to 13000feet in a reasonable time? Are there any problems i should know before organizing a day of jumping from the R44? Thanks Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  25. When i bought my Spectre at about 150 jumps my rigger told me it would be too big for me and i would not have fun with it too long. I still bought the spectre at a WL of about 1.2 and guess what, i am still jumping it and don't intend to get anything else. I have been glad i had it several times. One of those times was when power lines apeared in front of me even though the poles of the power line were all about 100m to my right. It turned out there were two powerlines and the two poles to my right were not from the same powerline. It was evening and the dark powerlines could not be seen over the plowed field. I saw them just in time to turn away because my canopy was not too fast and it did not plunge down during the turn even thoug i applied the brakes a little late.
