  1. Nope, sorry, figured if I was goin for video on my first jet jump and with my wingsuit I'd for sure screw the exit and go tumblin like some other folk have!
  2. Mitch Rosen inside waist band holster-I carry my duty gun (glock 21 so it aint small either!) off duty in it and when flying commercial on extraditions. conceals well, comfortable walking or sitting. Can't say the same for most everything else out there.
  3. Four way with Uli, Christy and Dan BC; I hung in there (I think!) and lost count of the points but shit I felt like I was in slow motion and probably was!!!! But man that was priceless!!! A big thanks to all of them for jumpin with FNGs!
  4. I don't get what you want. Do you want the DZO to buy you health insurance, or you want him to pay for your insurance without deducting the cost from you? If it is the first one, I basically see no difference. I was looking for suggestions on how to make it easier/more affordable for instructors to obtain insurance, work comp, benefits. As it's looking benefits are out. Work comp-there was an instructor that mentioned being able to pay into it. And quite a few good suggestions on health ins-sounds like form a group for group rates for affordability is best bet. If this could be done through the DZs or USPA is another question. There's been a lot of talk about keeping the sport alive and how to con't to attract newbies. I really think Instructors should be considered in that equation and I havn't seen that mentioned. I feel that good quality instructors are under appreciated; I wouldn't have gotten my A without them!!! And now since this thread has gone way off from where I had hoped it would go and it's starting to turn into personal attacks I'm asking the Mods to lock it. Thank you to the folk that contributed.
  5. Got to jump the Perris jet today with my wingsuit. First time out of the jet. When I was lookin down on the tail I just couldn't stop the maniacal laughter!!!! I'm still grinin! It is $85.00 but damn it was worth it! If you get the chance don't pass it up!
  6. Yup, I give up....some really good input.....but the rest is really not what I intended......
  7. Thank you, this is the kind of info I was hoping to generate. Please folks, don't get this sent elsewhere!!!! I truly wanted this to keep heading in a direction that would help out!!! Again , my thought at this point is if there was a group policy available thru USPA for instructors that had an easy sign up it seems a lot more likely that they would use it?! And it would be pretty affordable?! Also to the previous poster that mentioned Work Comp that he was able to pay into at Elsinore- do you have further info on that to share? Instructors what do you think?????
  8. Hmmm, OK, I'm gonna try again here..... This is meant constuctively! It's not just about holding head down sit etc. Awareness of others in the sky around you and the ability to get out of the way fast without having to think about it. The previous example about corking-do you have the wherewithall to not do that automatically? How's your internal clock? Does it adjust from sit to head down speed/time? The more I jump the more I realize the less I know... And again with all due respect, after reading your responses, I'll pass on jumpin with you.....
  9. Hmmm, I guess you shouldn't have to pay attention to any of the "advice" in the SIM from folk with a few more jumps than you either eh? I sincerly hope that your ego doesn't kill you.....or worse yet someone else. I know that a lot of responses sound confrontational here, but please do a hard cold reality check on yourself! And in the meantime I'll take a pass on jumpin with you.....
  10. "Independent contractors" ARE their "employers" So by your note, they are kicking themselves in the face. "Independent contractors" need to arrange for their own insurance. ----------------------------------------------------- Point taken --------------------------------------------------- Perhaps a way to do this would be to organize a cooperative where they can approach insurance companies and leverage their numbers to get better deals on insurance. This is much better than forming a union and trying to force the (regular jumpers via the) DZOs to cover their care. It's one idea. -------------------------------------------------------- And I think it's a great idea! Folks, I know this bonfire, but I really intended this as a hopefully constructive conversation to help out skydiving instructors. I know I may be stirring some folks up, but now what about maybe USPA (or if there are better suggestions) offering the above suggested cooperative? USPA already has insurance for members for damage done by them on a skydive so would taking it further for instructors be feasible?
  11. I know this has been kicked around before and it's why I'm posting it here instead of elsewhere. It just really sucks that instructors are "independant contractors" and don't have benefits or insurance from work. I'm sorry but it seems like a kick in their faces from the employers. I know that there's no easy solution but it sure would be great if a brainstormin session could help even a little bit. I'll be droppin off a few hundred at manifest for Koji this week and I'm planning on con't to donate every month, and I have to encourage all Perris locals to do the same-just give what you can. I realize I'm worked up about his situation right now but I've always thought that it sucked for them not to have any benefits etc! I'm ignorant on how plans work for at least health ins, so does anyone in the know have suggestions?????? Any ideas on workable solutions for work comp etc?????
  12. As other folk have said do some ride alongs, get to know some of the local cops till they'll really talk to you to get a better idea of what it's about. Next decision is find a dept that you can trust/respect- will they back you up in a politically sensitive situation? Or throw you out to the wolves? Are they too politically correct? eg; Do they give all the patrol officers rifles in the cars? Or only to field supervisors and then only after the North Hollywood bank robbery? (LAPD) Also look at larger depts. A lot more divisons to try. Gettin burned out on Jerry Springer calls on patrol? You can put in for transfer to something else totally different. Work CAC (Crimes against children) too long to where whenever you see a santa claus in the mall at Christmas you can't help but think there's probably another child molester? Then you can move again..... Just some more food for thought for you.
  13. I can only answer for in Ca. A "simple" trespass is misd. If you cause enough damage getting in then it is felony vandalism also.
  14. Anyone that watches mythbusters already knows how.....
  15. wed and thurs I'll be there! I just hope they'll run the jet mid week cause I have to work the weekends but I doubt it.....
  16. Thank you pope-it was worth reading thru the chaff to read your post. a dose of reality is needed for a lot of folk.....and life is a terminal condition.....
  17. Hey Peter hows it going? Thanx for all the jumps. I here your w.s. flyin alot. Glad I got to meet you. I'm planning on being in so. Cal. the first week in December so if your around Perris we will do some jumps. I'll post the dates when I get my ticket Thanx Jeff Hey, thank you for the jumps! Yea post the dates, my vacations over now, but if I'm off then the beers on me!
  18. All good advice above. And I call it healthy paranoia-it's a good thing to have. If something doesn't seem right; trust your instincts! Even if you have a gun in hand if you're not paying any attention to your surroundings it's not going to do much good. Reality is the cops can't be everywhere-so yes make yourself a harder target with security measures-locks etc. motion sensor outside lights are also excellent. If you don't choose to have a gun then pepper spray, cheap-or even a taser-not cheap! And even in the daytime, if your walking in/out have the pepperspay etc. in your hand, not in the bottom of the purse. Enlist the neighbors if feasable -depends on the neighbors. Please take this as potentially serious! And remember if the shit hits the fan-same as skydivin- never give up! Keep fightin! Take care!!!!!
  19. Just an update-awesome! suit already delivered today, perfect fit, sent 2 day air fed x. couldnt ask for quicker service!!!! Thanx Tonysuits!!
  20. I'm a complete newb at wingsuits, and Jeff only had 2 with him for newbs. So I'm afraid I can't compare to other suits. I tried the eagle first. The suits were a tad on the small side for me so keep that in mind. The eagle seemed to get a high speed shudder going at times. I've read reviews that noted the same thing. I then tried the aerobat and loved it! Within a few jumps I had fall rate down to 60mph. This is a great opportunity for newbs! Jeff will give you first jump instruction and one on one video coaching for the cost of his jump ticket. If you can meet up with him its well worth it. The suits go on completely, then you put on your rig; so all handles are out in the open. The only possible problem for some is that you must be able to unthread your leg straps. On some rigs the sewn fold back is to thick to unthread. I called Tonysuits the day after Jeff faxed my order in-they'd already cut out my suit and it'll be shipped within a week of the order being faxed. Oh yea-25% off promotional price too..... Yup, I'm hooked!
  21. Jeff was at Perris till today, now in Elsinore and then will be back at Perris. And yup, after demo I went and ordered one. It's only money......
  22. There was a court decision in liberal ca that let the individual deputy sue the false complaintant. Our county-San Bernardino-T stop, he cited her, she P formed him, said he said he'd let her go if she agreed to have sex with him. And good deputy had his tape recorder running. It came to a lawsuit filed, and before it went too far the county counsel asked her lawyer if he'd like to hear the tape..... Afterwards the deputy did get to sue the subject and won. Minimal amount that you could never collect anyway of course. And being Ca. a subsequent court decision reversed the prior so we can no longer sue for malicious false accusations....of course!!! And to the previous posters talking about cops trying to escalate situations...yes they do exist, rare but do exist. And I can assure you they do go down for it too. I always figure there is a camera rolling, plus my tape. Case in point Webb- guy with a phone cam was nearby. He's on trial right now for attempt manslaughter- do a search if you dont believe me-our county also. And the good cops don't care for those guys either, makes the job a lot harder!
  23. [and maybe, if that WAS me, laughing 'cause I wasn't wearing anything under my robes... But that's just me. Now that's really funny!!!!!!
  24. Now to have fun watchin them.....give them a bowl of water and some sugarcubes!!!
  25. Collapsed end cells too.....so it's not just my sabre 2.(170) Does most everyones sabre 2 also hunt around on opening? Tried my packing and different packers, filmed openings-not dropping a shoulder etc....So if it's just another trait of the sabre 2 I'll live with it.
