  2. Well personally I like to land near a road if I can. If I don´t, I´m in for a long walk through fields and farms, and the DZ van might not see me. The problem with landing near roads is the power lines. They are nearly impossible to see until the last minute. A long walk beats an ambulance ride any day. never pull low......unless you are

  12. What part of Iraq that has US troops in it is not classified as a war zone? Will it remain a war zone as long as there are US troops there? A convenient way to get reporters out of a sensitive area, but not one that will fly in a society that believes in a free media. I watched the war on TV thanks to the reporters that were imbedded. There didn't seem to be anyone trying to keep them away. never pull low......unless you are
  13. I jumped with Jack during those Indiantown days, and sure had a blast with him, and the rest of the crowd there, before moving away to Texas. He's a great guy, and a lot of laughs to hang out with. I am sorry to hear of his passing. I saw the name Gerry and thought he must be a relative of some sort. I didn't realize that it was Jack. I did my first 8-way with Jack and the other members of the "A team". They said just fall and we'll do the rest. The only problem was getting them to let go at 3500. They were always going for a few more points. never pull low......unless you are
  14. cuz it's fun! A relationship doesn't have to be forever or even exclusive for it to be good. I don't consider every date an audition for becoming someone's life partner.. I've got to agree with you on this. Maybe part of the problem is that men and women have different expectations when they date. never pull low......unless you are
  15. A soldier (sorry can't call him a terrorist while we are technically still at war), would probably have a very different strategy and or position to a journalist, something that a trained soldier should be able to read and think twice about. Quote Soldiers wear uniforms. Terrorists (and spies) don't. never pull low......unless you are
  16. That is pretty disturbing stuff. Unless there have been some bizarre innovations in video technology, it is pretty far off to mistake a TV camera for a RPG launcher. Have any of us been to an unfamiliar dropzone and mistaken the windsock for either a RPG or a TV camera at 3000 ft ? I mean.. they are both kinda cylindrical, right ? Quote I wasn't aware of any dz's that are in a war zone. The fact that people are trying to kill them probably adds some stress. This could improve the odds that mistakes will happen. War zones are dangerous places, if you want to stay safe don't go there. never pull low......unless you are

This seems to apply to your post: The Station by Robert J. Hastings Tucked away in our subconscious minds is an idyllic vision. We see ourselves on a long, long trip that almost spans the continent. We're traveling by passenger train, and out the windows we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hills, of biting winter and blazing summer and cavorting spring and docile fall. But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day at a certain hour we will pull into the station. There will be bands playing, and flags waving. And once we get there so many wonderful dreams will come true. So many wishes will be fulfilled and so many pieces of our lives finally will be neatly fitted together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, damning the minutes for loitering ... waiting, waiting, waiting, for the station. However, sooner or later we must realize there is no one station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us. "When we reach the station, that will be it !" we cry. Translated it means, "When I'm 18, that will be it ! When I buy a new 450 SL Mercedes Benz, that will be it ! When I put the last kid through college, that will be it ! When I have paid off the mortgage, that will be it ! When I win a promotion, that will be it ! When I reach the age of retirement, that will be it ! I shall live happily ever after !" Unfortunately, once we get it, then it disappears. The station somehow hides itself at the end of an endless track. "Relish the moment" is a good motto, especially when coupled with Psalm 118:24: "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." It isn't the burdens of today that drive men mad. Rather, it is regret over yesterday or fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who would rob us of today. So, stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, go barefoot oftener, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more and cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough. never pull low......unless you are
