  1. That cross country gets boring just dock on the nearest person with a velo...all of a sudden it's exciting again Remember, when the thrill is gone, put the danger back in!!! 3. That's probably right...PhreeZone brought Lodi in as an example of a DZ that lets heavier tandems out lower. It seemed as though people responding later in the thread were refering to Lodi...at least they were responding to people who were talking about Lodi. That's what got me going...and Hookit as well I think, I think there are two conversations going as anyone who jumps there know that everything is up front about alti there. 4. How are they misleading anyone? They clearly state what the deal is at the outset. Lodi misleads no one about the service they provide and they do it cheaper then anyone i've ever heard of. Thire student gear is new and the instruction good. I know your responding to a post on DZ.com but it sounds as if you are badmouthing a DZ you haven't jumped at. If you think they are providing poor service you are wrong. Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos

  6. $1 per pound over 200 up to 250. The students know they are getting out at 6k. Tandems at Lodi are $99...nothing to complain about Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos

  8. LOL...I understand. I remember the first time I heard NWA in the 80's. Since I was a teenager and was a...bad person, it spoke to me in ways that other music (besides punk) never had. Later as I got older (and hopefully a better person) It gave me insight to a community I had no other access to. I've always loved poetry and been facinated by the lyrics of songs. Like all music, rap has its hacks. There will always be the fool who sings about how much they love girls with big butts while drinking 40's of malt liquor. If you measure rap by that standard then you should measure rock by "Poison" or all american music by Brittney Spears. I hate country music!!! I hate music in C major (most country it seems)...I recognize that the musicians are talented, I just can't stant the way it sounds. Rap makes alot of folks uncomfortable...it should. They say scarry things about themselves and us...we should listen. Anyone who thinks they are talentless needs to listen to eminem...then try to sing along with him....there is a reason he is considered the best. Music at its best is always a vehicle to exchange ideas, you don't have to like the vehicle but it would be foolish to ignore the idea! I love the fact that two soldiers from Indianna used this vehicle to express themselves!!! Especially since they sampled NWA to do it! 11. You're absolutely right! We are in a single point failure situation if there ever was one. (The Spice Must Flow) I think the problem I'm having with your argument is that you see it as a justification for any atrocity we choose to inflict...I don't. The current powerstructure demands the oil, and the profits it creates, and is conscerned primarily with where those profits go. Short sighted but profitable. Where we need to be focused is getting ourselves out of the reliance on petroleum. It would take significant unpopular measures to change our society. One's that would negetively impact bussiness and standard of living(gotta get rid of that SUV, maybe even raise jump ticket prices)...in the short term. I think it's a better solution then conquest, it also has a better chance of working. The problems with petroleum are not just economic or political but probably most importantly ecological. So...what are we going to do? Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos
  12. Couldn't agree more. My biggest obstacle has always been fighting within the rules. An oxymoron if there ever was one. I think that the school is important but would argue the individual and their head space is of paramount importance. 13. What is a street art? I have yet to find a martial art that teaches people to be good fighters. It can teach a fighter to be a better fighter, they don't teach you how to be a good fighter. I agree that balance is the key. A mixed background is best if your going to be throwing down for real, but you have to start with someone who can actually fight. Martial arts are all great sports...but for most they are just sports. I used to prefer to strike as well (I hate rolling around in alleys and parking lots) and grappling with one when there is three opponents is a great way to get kicked in the head. If you do kempo do you have weapons training? That is the shit for multiple opponents! Improvised weapons work just as good at inflicting pain as one you can buy...they just aren't a flashy. 14. As a few others have said, I like a .38 for home defense. You point and shoot. Put a shitload of rounds through it sooting from the hip 5 feet from a target...this is where you are most likely to be when it comes time to use it! I love my shotgun, have put 1000 rounds through it at least. I had to confront someone who came to my house with it. They had a .45 and I had a shotgun. I racked it and told him not to move...he turned and ran, I almost shot him in the back (that would have sucked!). The bitch of it was, even with my extreame familiarity with the gun, I couldn't seem to find the safety or the slide release for like 5 min....or so it seemed. I think removing variables in a super high stress encounter is good....a revolver does this. 16. This point of view assumes that without god there is no morality, this is something I hear a lot and am always confused. Morality, true morality, has nothing to do with fear, rather compassion! I try to lead a moral life as I see it, using compassion gained through empathy as my guide. If, and here is a biggie, there is a god, I don't belive he is living in some remote location keeping a list of my sins, seeing if I worship his kid as the only way I can get past the red rope at the gates. This said I have to use that same measuring stick to make a decision about the morality of certain research...what does the best for the most? Can I look upon the Alzheimers patient and say no, I won't use this avenue of research because it makes people uncomfortable. We are talking about a collection of 150 or so cells that has the POTENTIAL to be life. Watch out, with cloning techniques moving forward as they are, damn near any cell will have that same potential. I do not see this line of reasoning as justification for anything that the researcher wants, just in the instace of stem cells. I remember being very young and arguing with my mom about Mangela's research into many areas of medicine. I didn't understand why that research was sealed, if it could help, why not use it? I am no longer 8 years old and understand that some prices are to high to pay. It comes down to morality. I refuse to knowingly benefit through the suffering of others. I see no suffering with stem cell research. I see a lot of suffering that could possibly be aleviated by it. 17. Thanks all! I thought about putting up all 30 min of it but the file would be to big! I don't want to compress farther then I have. I put this one up cause it's my favorite and I got paid the biggest complement I've ever had when my wife said, "That video makes me want to skydive!" My wife HATES skydiving. Not me skydiving, but she did a tandem and said, "Wow...I hate that! Have fun..." As for the extras...I don't think so Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos
  18. Thought I'd put this up for ya. This is the closing segment of a video I put together of the "All of the Above" Boggie at SDO. Of all the video I've put together inside and outside of skydiving, this is my favorite...hope you enjoy it! It has swooping (superstu throwing down sick swoops), and an example of a perfect back track by Bill "MX" Halisy all set to Janes Addictions Summertime Rolls. Every time I watch this it makes want to go again Peace! 19. And that I can't argue with! If it's an option it's nice to have a aff instructor or TM direct the exit. It's always a good idea to tray and get them to stay faced perpendicular to jump run when playing in the air too. Sometime they do it! 20. We looked at alot of options, the roths worked for us for a couple of reasons. The others had restrictions on the use of the money we were uncomfortable with. Who knows if your child will do the traditional college thing. I hope she does even though I didn't, but no matter what she does, I am setting aside money to help her. That said I would be shocked if she didn't go all the way, my girl is scary smart and loves math, science, and constantly corrects my spelling...she's 9. I just wanted to keep my money more fluid and a roth does that for me. 21. You can take the principal out of those roths without paying taxes on it cause you already did...that's one of the things that make it a roth. I have two (one for the wife) and we are actually using them as savings accounts for our daughters education. I also have a 457 and another retirement plan (Cal Pers Safety) PLFXpert, If someone wants your identity...this is not how they are going to do it. 22. Ok here is a ff group leaving before a belly group. 20mph headwinds in uppers and lowers with an 8 second delay. Now what your saying is that a hybrid spends alot of time as a belly group. If that is the case then it is a belly group. But, and its a pretty big but, it depends on what that hybrid group is doing. If it's a group of good ff and belly people that shit will be moving at freefly speeds fast. If your still learning how to do it, you spend alot of time at belly speeds. Now I think the veriable you are missing is how long the groups are spending in the uppers. The belly group spends more time and so they get more push. GPSJane: If you are with a coach, they should know you are going to cork, it's part of learning to freefly. Just don't jump with other people (other then a coach) till you can maintain fall rate. If you have to garentee fallrate you will never learn to freefly. When doing a 2-way with a coach or very experienced freeflyers, just make sure they know your skill level. 23. Do a bit more research...this is scary reasoning...it's also been talked to death and proven...to me anyway to be wrong. go here get the program and tell me what you think: http://www.diverdriver.com/Spotting/Freefall_Drift/freefall_drift.htm Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos
  24. You get to the point where your splitting hairs. Fastest goes last? Not always, Tracking, Wingsuit, flocking all go last as well. I think you can catagorize most new FF as flocking. It's what most of us do when we're new freefliers (and some of us when were experienced) So you have somone in front of an 8-way hd group who is going to have A LOT of horizontal movement and is probably going to dump higher then the experienced group...BAD IDEA. I don't care about the changeable fall rate as much as I do about the horizontal movement. New solo freefliers should go last in the FF line up AND give extra exit sep. Peace! 25. Dude...nice video! Now I have to go out and play that transition game. Then I have to get a hand tube the next time I stand on a hybrid! That was some good shit! Thank You! Peace!
