  1. I think what you should take away from this thread is that you've hit on probably the biggest point of contention on DZ.com. With the possible exception of whether God exists and if he does if he likes guns... or gay people. You should listen to all of us then go find someone you trust and knows you. There are no hard fast rules only opinions. None of these people know you, find someone who does that you trust. CK is a good place to be for finding experienced ppl. PEACE! 5. What NickDG said. If I've got the wind at my back I get BIG and go into deep breaks. If into the wind Rears and get small. What I learned when I was new, and it has saved me from myself several times, was that if there was a question in my mind about weather I could make it back or not, I should bust a 360... thereby assuring that I couldn't get back. Then I do what I should have been doing the whole time and look for a good out. Flying yourself into a corner to save yourself some walk time is bad. Just my $0.02... PEACE! 9. You Might Enjoy This…. SO I’m rough on my camera gear. Honestly I fly like it isn’t there, as some of the video I shoot can attest . To give you an idea how rough, check out the pics. I’ve gotten some fantastic video with this PC1000 but we both knew it’s days were numbered. At the end of August I chowed at Skydive Oregon, in Molalla, the PC1000 gave up the ghost… I pulled the battery as quick as I could but the camera was under water. I opened the tape compartment and poured water back into the pond. You could see inside the lens was half full of water, I just left it for several days. I put a battery in the camera and plugged it into the wall. When I turned the camera on, it actually turned on! It wouldn’t focus, I could see condensation inside the lens. It was giving me Error Code E61:00 on the screen, I had a chat with Sony Tec-support. I asked what Error Code E61:00 was, she checked something that took her a good minute, minute and a half. When she came back she told me that, “that code means there is something wrong inside the camera”…I shit you not that was what she said! I asked, ”Are you fucking with me?” while laughing and she didn’t think it was funny but hell, she wasn’t that bright either so I was able to take the blow. To further test our new relationship I asked how much it would be to look at it…$450.00. Oh well, time to look at the CX12. \ So I turned on my camera tonight and… it works perfectly, records, plays, focuses, I can capture video to and from it, everything works, I love my camera. 14. Ok...good come back! You do make some good points. I disagree that you are not the government though, you are the government of U.S. at least a part of it. Certainly our attitudes can effect what laws are written and how those laws are applied. How you think can effect change for good or bad in the people around you, which is how laws get changed (or is that logic flawed?). I feel they are guilty as well, and if they are convicted I'll be hopeful they can't hurt anyone else. I hope the police dispassionately pursue the facts and evidence in this case without assuming they are guilty. It's hard to do but it tends to get closer to the truth....and build a better case. As for respecting jump numbers...I couldn't care less. I just respect people who tell me who they are. 15. Why yes I do have the gall...as you cower behind your anonymous profile and say incredibly stupid shit like... Wow, you are just passionate about giving the benefit of the doubt to these scumbags, no matter how minuscule the justification for doing so grows, aren'tcha? Unimpressed I just don't think it's likely that the cops were flippant in taking this kid into custody; I don't think they someone mistakenly came to believe it was his semen in the condom found in the victim's home; I don't think that he was one of a herd of what, 8 others who were forced at gunpoint to rape and mutilate a woman and her young son (who was forced to have sex with his mother, according to a new story in The Palm Beach Post), by some all-powerful 18-year-old dreadlocked piece of shit. What kind of crow will you eat when this is all hashed out and all 10 of these pieces of shit are found guilty? I'll put $100 on it. You see, I have a problem with those who wish to convict without a trial. Your statement implies that those of us that demand that the process be followed somehow will be disappointed once the verdict is read shows a lack of understanding about the way things are supposed to work... So take you $100 and your anonymous indignation and shove it up your ass Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos
  16. So they saw the change in the wind, headed down wind and changed the pattern 180? The hard rule at my home DZ is 1st down sets the pattern. Wind direction is part of the equation but everyone follows the first down. If you want to land in any other direction...you land out. Now that's here, you might have different rules there, but following the pattern the lowest is setting is always a good idea, it makes us predictable. All of that said, good on you for taking the downwinder! It beats the shit out of a low turn! 18. No you misunderstand, and it's not my logic it was my instructors. The intent was obvious, as was the LACK of the use of the tools at hand as they were trained...or were you trained to use a double handed grip at the BASE of your PR24? The officer was trying to use a weapon he was trained on in a manner that was not only inconsistent with that training but ineffective as well. You still didn't answer the question...would YOU want these officers as back up? I'm not denying the the arrest was legit with the skater kids rather I'm asking YOU, personally, if you think the manner in which the arrest was conducted shows the level of professionalism you would accept in a partner. Do you really believe this officer was in control of himself? Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos

  21. Well in his defense, that's what he did. Did I enjoy watching him take his fear and frustration out on 13 year olds? No, of course not. Did I want to hurt him? Yes I did, anytime I see a large person dominating a small one my impulse is to hurt them. The position you're putting forward is that he should not have touched them and in that I think you are wrong. Sort of the "Stop!!! or I'll yell Stop again" approach to law enforcement huh? They are talking about stopping the police from engaging in high speed pursuits. I can't wait! I'm taking the license plates off my car and I'll never pull over. 22. I don't believe the most important point has been brought up. This officer is not in control of himself. His decision making process is obviously impaired as demonstrated most notably by leaving a handcuffed prisoner sitting on the sidewalk. The force used, while appropriate, was questionable in it's application. Trying to control a group leaves him vulnerable, or did he believe he could control them because they were young? If he felt they were no threat then the level of force is even more questionable. I would have cleared him of wrongdoing however I would of recommended that he receive some additional training. I remember going over the Rodney King tape in a PC832 class years ago. The guy teaching the class (investigator for the Sac DA) went over the tape in slow motion and pointed out one officer in particular. This guy hit Rodney 24 times in the arm with his baton...and didn't break the arm. This was a man who was so out of control that he couldn't inflict the harm he so obviously wanted to. He had 24 tries at it and couldn't do the damage. Now tell me, honestly, are these the guys you want to go through a door with? 24. This is not just to you Kallend: I have watched this discussion for the last several months and can see the ineffective rules coming. It's really too bad. I understand why you are all afraid, I've lost friends and had close calls as well. I also understand why you want to get down in writing a way to "FIX" it, it won't work. I especially like SDAZ's plan, what a waste of ink that shit is! I've been to places with separated landing areas, there are still close calls, collisions even (WITH SEPARATE LANDING AREAS?!?). I saw a collision two days ago with two people doing a standard landing pattern. The fact is that when there are collisions it's because one or both parties fucked up, someone is being stupid. Kallend, they can still take you out from behind even if there's a rule that says they can't do it. The swoopers need to recognize when it's not right to make the turn...The standard pattern folks need to recognize when that jackass is setting up in the pattern way higher then seems reasonable, he's about to make a turn into traffic. You can't see the problem because it's above you you say? Bullshit! You should see the mix of canopies you are in the air with as soon as you are open and watch the pattern come together. It will give you a real good hint about what is going to happen if you are aware of what's happening throughout your canopy flight. The only way we are going to fix SOME of the problems we are having is to teach better canopy discipline to everyone. Hell, a quarter of the people I watch land don't even finish their flare much less remain aware of what's around them. You can get the BOD to make all the BSR changes you want and someone is going to do something stupid that is going to get someone else killed. Let's try to make some of the stupid people less stupid by showing them the right way. 25. I'm a true liberal...in other words I believe you should make decisions for yourself about yourself. I think helmet and seatbelt laws are well...unamerican! I miss the days when a motorcycle accident meant good trauma, not some dude with a broken leg. I also miss ejections! Before seatbelt laws we used to get ejections all the time, now it's mostly people with neck pain. The crazy thing about motorcycle accidents, and I've seen probably 500 of them over the years, is that it's rarely the motorcycles fault. Riding a motorcycle is putting too much trust in the general driving public for my taste. I've always wanted a Fat Boy till I had one almost land on the hood of my ambulance one morning. The truck in front of me hit the guy from behind while he was waiting at a stoplight...dude never even saw it coming. I realized that morning that it's not about my skills but the other jackasses on the road. Swooping is different. It's not USUALLY someone else's fault, that said it's what you don't expect that puts you underground! I don't think anyone should have the power to tell you what to do with your own body further, I respect your decision. You know the risks, you weigh your options, you make your decision with your eyes open. For me...I like my altered mental states to be self induced and temporary! If I start swooping big I'll probably go with a more substantial helmet. PEACE!
