  1. It's still fairly slow but seems not to have a limit on number of pictures like the CX7. The images are fairly low quality 2.3MP and seem grainy. I may be wrong, but it seems these cameras get their image quality from integrating a few higher a shutter speed images together to make a reference frame. When you take a still, the image quality appears to be that of a single shutter sample, so the colors seem muted and grainy. (DSE and others know the technical nomenclature) I think it was around 4 seconds per frame with a burst of 4 when I last tried it. Someone can try it while recording and pressing the photo button; I'm away from my camera right now. HYPOXIC
  2. There is no infrared port for a remote to work on this camera. For us it seems one of the biggest drawbacks of this camera for coaching. The TG1 does come with a remote but its different than older sony remotes. HYPOXIC
  3. Just because.... Mounting pictures HYPOXIC
  4. You should not have to keep the LCD flipped in on this camera if that "power by lcd" setting is set properly. I'll work directly with fruitbasket and should figure out a solution. edit: sounded funny... HYPOXIC
  5. Yeah splicing them together would not be super good. I did not put that strong of isolation on the camera switch input, so probably not such a good idea. I would make a new shutter release switch with dual contacts in it or a momentary DPST switch. If that is out of the question... hmm let me think about a solid state solution. HYPOXIC
  6. I rendered the video as 640X360 compressed as mp4, I thought it looked good at the actual screen size, don't full screen it. You may want to switch back from HD mode to SD mode since I'm unsure if the direct link I'm sending to youtube is correct for the format I uploaded. I can upload some higher res stuff into vimeo. We did not have a HD lens wide enough for Freefly competition videos so we used a Standard Def version for most of the jumps. I did throw a raynox 5052 towards the end of the day, but the lens was not secured very well and you can see a constant annoying shake. I'll wait to see if DSE has any recommendations as far as how I'm rendering the video files. Here are some bigger snippets: Using a SD Lens (Royal .3x) Using HD lens during landing Poorly mounted. (Raynox 5052) HYPOXIC
  7. Match the dimensions of your current PC style camera to that of the CX100, I would suspect the CX100 is shorter, but the width may be the same or a few mm wider. I believe the dimensions are posted on the first page of this thread. HYPOXIC
  8. I could post some footage of that but think they may get a little mad... Now where's my breakfast Oh wait, its dinner time.... (such an inside joke) HYPOXIC
  9. Chris did a demo during PIA and I think the whole room was amazed at how fast the editing went... Tandem Videos Made Easy Training DVD by VASST HYPOXIC
  10. You know, I'm just thinking having a Sony Vegas Script that grabs the last sequence of jumps and quickly renders it may just be the best thing for ground debriefing going forward. The mechanism Spot/Chris developed in Tandem Videos Made Easy can be adapted for debriefing purposes and would serve a really good purpose for coaches. This also would make it easy to give your student a complete DVD at the end of the day. HYPOXIC
  11. Rover, Like you I just copy the MTS files over and rename the stream folder the event. There might be a better way but I don't know it. The whole video index menu on the CX series seems to be serialized to the physical camera. This weekend Greg tried placing a card recorded on a CX7 in my CX7 and it did not load up. I have not seen a utility that can recreate these indexes yet back onto the camera but maybe try the repair damaged indexs and see if that works as a hack. HYPOXIC
  12. I have not looked at much footage in low light. I was recording in the tunnel on Saturday night and turned on the auto slow shutter and it seemed to help a bunch on the display. I did not throw it on my PC yet to see how it looks. The menu layout is the same as all the CX series and yes I still go through a couple of menus each time. The focus really needs to be set to manual on this camera for skydiving. I believe most would recommend this on any camera you are going to take in the sky. Therefore, I did not see this as a major problem. That bouncy issue is really strange, are you using the internal memory? Try that and see if it still happens. Did you happen to buy a pro duo card from ebay or something? Yes there are few external buttons on the cx100 but think there is more control on how it captures the video. You have all the focus, spot metering, modes (beach/ski), slow shutter, maybe I'm forgetting a feature on the PC9. As for creative options, they are still there too, but if you are not linearly editing, why do it from the camera? I think you'll find once you/we figure out the bouncy issue, you'll love the quality way over the PC9. Oh, the remote thing is kinda a bummer on this camera. You'll have to use the screen to slow motion and debrief for students. You probably don't want to try it for linearly editing/slow motion tandem videos, but hey someone figure out a neat method of doing it and prove me wrong. I do not see a IR window anywhere so assuming a remote will not work. bdazel, thanks for your input and I'm sure other people are having the same issues with the transistion. HYPOXIC
  13. Thank you Amy for putting it all together. I had a blast! Here is some footage that is really about the CX100, but has about 8 of the jumps. Cool Stuff... -Trunk HYPOXIC
  14. Check out some footage from Saturday. Various methods, steadyshot on/off, etc. Unfortunately used a .3x SD wide angle lens since I did not have a .3 HD lens this weekend. There are a few rounds with the .5 Rayonox lens which is easily distinguishable. I also had the auto slow shutter turned off so I'm wondering how some of the back lite video would of looked differently if it was on. Thx to Cynci and Curtis for shooting the good video... HYPOXIC
  15. I have not tested it with the CX105 but the HYPEYE D PRO works well with other international AVCHD cameras so highly doubt there would be any issues. We are planning on shooting the Freefly Money meet tomorrow with it so I'll try and post a bunch of footage tomorrow night. I will lend it to a few different camera fliers and try to get some side mount and top mount footage throughout the day. I will try and parameterize the shots and do some with steadshot on/off, wideangle setting, etc to get a good idea of how the camera acts in different modes. It's supposed to be partly cloudy tmw so hopefully I'll get some good lighting changes. One note is this camera really must be set to manual focus. The prototype seemed pretty slow to auto focus and I'm assuming the production model is similar. I figure this will become part of everyone's morning setup now with these cameras anyway. I should know by the AM (or I could probably read the manual) if the manual focus/power on by LCD reverts back after 12 hours like the other ones. HYPOXIC
  16. And while you are there, they finally they have the Hypeye D Pro up! Of course it needs some pictures and stuff, but its a start :-) Thank you all for helping Hypoxic get into BH photo video. You rock! Now we need to sell some through there . -Trunk HYPOXIC
  17. As far as facebook they reverted their TOS... Terms of Use Update Over the past few days, we have received a lot of feedback about the new terms we posted two weeks ago. Because of this response, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised. If you want to share your thoughts on what should be in the new terms, check out our group Facebook Bill of Rights and Responsibilities. HYPOXIC
  18. There are a few things off my head I would check, some are easy some are more hard, some are just bad. 1) make sure you did not tape down or get sand in the microswitch that detects if the screen is opened or not 2) plug it into a tv and press the playback button, see if the touch screen works. If so shine a flash light on it, it may be the backlight switch mode powers supply is jacked. 3) If you have an homemade controller, there is a way to shut off the screen with a certain code but I doubt this is what happened, but you never know If its out of warranty I would follow the first few instructions located on our website ( CX7/Cx12 dismantling instructions and ensure the display connector is properly seated. In theory Skydiving could possible make these cables pop off. Hope something works.... -Trunk edit: Wait, I may have misread, the camera goes dead or just the screen? HYPOXIC
  19. This will probably clear up how small/ easy this camera is to mount. HYPOXIC
  20. Scotty, I think I need to change my underwear; yeah the camera looks cool too. Can't wait to touch it and fly with it.... :-D I'm so excited about this little beast. HYPOXIC

  22. Some high quality stuff I put on vimeo a while back. http://vimeo.com/1548490 Just screw around dives without any wide angle lens on the TG1 and top mounted without a box. I have full frame stuff towards the end. HYPOXIC
  23. During nationals, we gladly accepted CX7 and CX12s. With HD cameras we did suggest people switch to 4:3 to better fit the judging booth. At the end of the day I asked people with AVCHD cameras for their cards and copied it to a folder on the PC and the archiving was done. I do not know how next years nationals is going to do it, but at least that is what we did this year. For MiniDV cameras we firewired the footage to the PC through Sony Vegas Movie Studio while the judges judged their first run. The composite feed went into the judging booth and got place on DVDs for second and third reviews. (Worlds was slightly different) AVCHD went over the composite to the DVDs and then later was digitally archived the card. FYI, Arizona Arsenal Sara Curtis used an unmodified CX7 in 4:3 mode to win Nationals. She did switch to a PC109E for worlds since it requires a PAL based camera. Edit: What aspect of the judging does not support AVCHD that you have seen in local comps? Edit Dumpster: Unless you are in the South I would wait to see how these new camcorders play out. CX12 works decently with sitflying, TG1 even better, Both work great headdown. See end of this video for VFS footage from the CX7 during nationals. It's highly compressed but at least no flutter.
