  1. Thx for the update Chris... in Scotty's words: Big things go crash they go boom... Man you're always trying to one up me; see you as soon as its cleared, save some of the morphine drip for me. Hang in there! HYPOXIC
  2. What exactly are you filming? I have only a half a dozen out of this plane and besides the narrow door and either getting pushed out of it or diving out after the group, I have not noticed any difference. Of course its generally zoo FF dives since its a specialty plane anyway. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  3. A comparison between the Raynox .3 and the Century .5 would be interesting. I would bet the .5 is wider. How do you have the Raynox setup? Do you have the 30-37mm step-up ring and then the 37mm-37mm adapter ring or just the 30-37mm? Seems really narrow to me. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  4. BH has them for $299, adorma for a a little more. There was a link off of get hypoxic's website to them. By the way "baby death" is the nick name for the lens, the official name is 0DS-FEWA-37. I have not played with the opteka yet. HYPOXIC
  5. I spoke to Sara Curtis of Arizona Arsenal last night after I let her use my baby death lens for the past two weeks of VFS training. She seems to think its even wider than a royal .2 but we should be able to easily measure that when I get back to the DZ. I take it she zoomed in a tad since it was just way to wide for VFS camera flying. Now if I ever get my lens back is the question. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  6. CX100: * Threaded lens! * Easy to mount on L bracket or top mount * Better imager * Better lens * Cheaper * Newer * Comes in colors I wrote up some stuff on the CX100 on Get Hypoxic's Website that may be helpful -Trunk HYPOXIC
  7. Finally found it: Sony VMC-K100 Microphone Adapter for Camcorder Hot Shoes But it shows its been discontinued. HYPOXIC
  8. The input into the debrief port needs to be line-level. This works great for an ipod going into the HDP but requires a pre-amplifier for it to source a mic. Put it this way, if you can plug it into your stereo's RCA jacks and hear your voice you got it right. Sample preamplifier circuits can be found at someplace like: preamp mic circuits There are not too many off the shelf, cheap and small options. Inputing a Mic is doable but I don't promote it all that much since it tends not to be too practical for skydiving applications. It's hella-cool though if you just want to cut out all the noise from a jump and just have music from your ipod already mixed. HYPOXIC
  9. This is a crash course in avchd: [urlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD[/url]. I just copy over the MTS files into a directory by date and then description. My NLE, Vegas, gobbles these up perfectly without the extra metadata, indexes and thumbnails. The import is nice if you like to browse your folders but feel its kinda a waste of time during the copying. (I generally do this when I forgot I never did it from last weekend and now on a 10minute call) Besides that, you can always tell the software to search the folder and index the mts files when your computer is idle. 10. There is a slight lag due to the requirements of the protocol. The instruction is re-sent a few times and the camera requires it to be finished before the shot fires. Since I'm out of commission due to a concussion this weekend I'll give it a shot tmw on the ground and gather some better parametrics. Side note: Important safety message: Always wear helmets on motorcycles, I'd be drinking out of a straw right now if I wasn't.... HYPOXIC
  11. Last I heard it was around 6. Billvon talks about the photo kit somewhat in this post It's sluggish but may be acceptable for handicam or some tandem operations. This feature will not replace an SLR in the near future. I recommend pressing record and pressing the photo button on the CX100, this is how the HDP and the photo kit will interact with each other. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  12. For my own personal sanity of not writing the same things over in private messages, emails, facebook, phone calls and on this forum I tried to summarize the main bullets the 24 pages of this posting. Please let me know if anything is incorrect, but I feel it's pretty complete and a good start. Sony CX100, CX100E and CX105 for Action Sports Mods, please delete, lock or whatever you want at will. I will try to update it with PM as I receive them. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  13. The funny thing is there are a bunch of electronics in the HYPEYE MINI... If you want to fix the cameye (silly that I out of all people are suggesting this) look around the board and find if any parts have separated from the pad of the circuit board and then find someone to solder it down. An easy way is just start pressing parts down until it works. Or just get a HYPEYE MINI -Trunk HYPOXIC
  14. It always depends what you are doing with the setup. I really like the .5 century lens and the Raynox 5052 for inexpensive lenses. If your shooting for comp, in SD, a liquid or royal .2x would be fine. If you are doing tandem vids I would go with the .5 century. If you are doing production quality vids in close, with consumer cameras use the century .3 baby death. From what I have seen I think the lens for screw around freefly jumps in probably the raynox HD3032 right now, although if you are used to framing you can get away with the century .5. The century .3 is just a ton of glass for zoo freefly jumps. IMHO. I have not tried the opteka yet so I have no idea about that lens. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  15. For a remote shutter, looks like this adapter will work well to: Canon 3-pin Adapter to 3.5mm adapter and then buy a standard 3.5mm bite switch. I've been salvaging the connector from a remote shutter, but the above seems to be a lot cheaper solution. Plus when the bite switch dies, just buy a another cheaper 3.5mm bite switch instead of another canon style. Lately, I've been wiring up the focus lead to a DPDT switch so that it continuously focuses in one position and then only focus's upon the bite in the other. Pretty cool trick for those fast lenses. I can probably draw up something if anyone is interested. And yes your battery drains faster with the continuous focus but you can go all day if you just flick the switch as part of your after opening sequence. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  16. I use the 50D and love it. There are some big way shots that a full sensor would totally have worked better, but for the most part think the 50D and a nice lens is perfect. I use the Canon 15mm 2.8 for most jumping and have a 17-55mm that I use to ground footage. Pretty much everything for the past 6 months on my facebook albums are from this camera: Trunk's Facebook HYPOXIC
  17. It's threaded so the screw doesn't fall out. If you look at the screw, it's lathed towards the top to remove the threads. Once its in there then screw it into your camera. I'll request Terry to put that in the instructions. Blue Ones, Trunk HYPOXIC
  18. * Cx100 in SD mode with a scratched .2 -- Pretty Obvious * HC1 in HD with a .43 Op. - From below footage * CX100 in HD mode with a new liquid .3 - Relatively clear footage with vinnette * Cx100 in HD mode with a century .5 - Above footage, view from cockpit * Hero Pro Wide Angle - deployment/ swooping footcam Hope this helps out this conversation and people can really see the difference. 21. I posted a few pix up on my facebook account and should have the video up in a few days. I did post a a pic in the "show us your best shot" on the photography forum too. Wish I went on them all now. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  22. Just a few people doing a small HD jump in Eloy this weekend. HYPOXIC
  23. They accept both formats, but you're loosing a lot of screen real estate when they play it back on a 4:3 monitor. It just was not to your advantage during US Nationals to shoot in 16:9. Maybe over here they will eventually make the change. I think the IPC and USPA competition committee is going to have to figure out when to make the cut. I got some word that they are using a new system this year for nationals but don't know the exact details. Looks like OmniSkore is out. HYPOXIC
  24. The only people that will shoot 4:3 are any videographer during competitions until we push for 16:9 aspect ratio for the judges. I know a VFS team that would like to shoot .2x so they can be ultra close and ultra fast switching positions. I believe some freefly teams that train with a .3 then switch to a .2 a few weeks before nationals for some just in case room. Summary: Only for teams competing and with the current judging equipment, SD lenses are just fine. Of course this is the only case. HYPOXIC
