  1. Helmet is a cookie helmet with the TG1 box. They mounted it for me but I can take some pics. It's mounted at the front of their side mount area. I threw my Raynox 5050 lens (.5x) on it since I lent out my Royal lenses and was not able to locate the them before the jump. It's kinda silly with a big lens like the raynox since it almost seems bigger than the camera I just need to zoom in a hair with this lens, to prevent that vinette. Downside is the price. All said and done you are coming up on 1700 for a setup like this. I believe everything was stock settings wise, even autofocus. DSE is correct, its a mp4 ipod compression out of vegas. I did pump up the bit rate for this one just to see, still messing around HYPOXIC
  2. Totally, a screw around dive with the TG1 without a ringsight with one of Cookie's setups. Just got it in and man I really can get used to this POV camera flying... my neck actually feels ok today. :-P HYPOXIC
  3. I like it dude. Clean, simple. Good work. You running the display cable through the helmet I take it? Good job mounting the Hypeye D Pro, thanks for sharing. And be careful in these parts about making fun of people with half a roll of gaffer's tape.... -Trunk Your missing a HYPOXIC sticker... PM me and I can send you one. That goes for all of you that have contributed with your HYPEYE D PRO setups. (hope that's ok mods) HYPOXIC
  4. Trevor I believe the shutter is from the exposure not the autofocus mode. However, with this mod, do not manually set the exposure since I have had the camera "white out" without warning. I just give it a minute on jump run to error out and all is good. HYPOXIC
  5. heheheehe.... Wow. lots of common questions and it does sound like you have done your homework so I'll chime in. It sounds like you want a POV setup, if that is the case, don't go top of the line, yet. Recommended current Cameras: Tape: HC62, HC52, HC3-5 AVCHD: TG1, CX12 I feel for a starting camera person the HC62 is a great inexpensive camera. It can be easily top mounted, firewired to others and simple. Get some mileage on that then upgrade if u want to. It shoots widescreen if you like it to, but will not have the resolution as an HD camera will have. The TG1 cookie setup is a neat setup but that camera seriously is a bastard child. However, like all AVCHD cameras, you may also see some compression artifacts on some jumps. The TG1 does not have the flutter due to the lack optical stabilization found on sony camcorders such as found in the HC7/9/CX7. Hard drives will fail pretty quickly due to low airpressure at alitude, there are several discussions about this. However, I have no experience with the hybrid UX series where u can park the drive. Duck your head when you get out of the plane and there is really no big reason for a top mounted box. (unless you crash and burn on landings) That is my opinion others may differ. Of course I have a cage for my camera, so Im being slightly hipocritical. If you got towards a side mount and have a small yoke, you'll want something to protect the camera/yourself from riser strikes. Without a box you can just bolt the camera directly to the top of the helmet, of course you have a cookie so you'll need their liquid plate and adapters. Lenses, read around. It depends on your camera and what you are trying to get out of it. Man a HC62 with a .43 is an inexpensive intro setup. A HC5 with a Rayonex 5051 is a great advanced combo. Hope this confuses you even more... Ah just take the plunge, what can possibly go wrong HYPOXIC
  6. I agree with you, the loop back would be the optimal solution but at about 45minutes a pop, its hard to experiment. I have a feeling that the feedback is actually via the image processor. Since the CCD is so much faster than 30fps it uses some of that dead time to square the image up with the previous version and then takes the frame. Only Sony knows for sure. Good luck! HYPOXIC
  7. Dude, I like the mounting. Man I really do not like the CX7 mod, but that was in my disclaimer. You should be able to reverse it if you do not like it, I just hate how long the camera takes to boot up and switch to preview modes with the mod. Be very very careful not to crink the flex cables, hope crink is a word... hmmmm, think I need to add something new to the urban dictionary I still get shivers from getting shocked by that camera twice.... Wait, that explains it... HYPOXIC
  8. Just curious Cookie, does the CX7 box fit the CX12? I have my CX7 mounted in a cage and the CX12 fit in it, but I do not have side walls. HYPOXIC
  9. Yeah I should add it for all the older people of the crowd It'll be updated in the next few days. I still do not recommend people doing this, but if you are curious read through it. I think places like Kelly Camera in San Diego, amongst others, may be willing to perform this mod for a fee. From the sounds of it it'll be over $500. HYPOXIC
  10. I did not want to post this originally because I think there still is a better less intrusive solution. But, since people are doing this, I rather help out with my limited knowledge. Please see the bottom of Get Hypoxic's webpage for instructions on how to glue down the optical stabilization on a CX7. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  11. Tommy, Unplug the stabilization assembly from the system. This should help. The flutter you are seeing is from the exposure. Let the camera error out before trying to record and that should stop the black/image flashing from occurring. I'm not seeing the extreme flutter like I saw with the CX7 on your videos. Mainly seeing head shake. HYPOXIC
  12. Yes, I should have done both without a wide angle lens for a better comparison. The flutter that I saw with the CX7 is not apparent or as much with the CX12 even with the same wide angle lens. I do not have access to the CX12 anymore or I would take some more shots. I think its a great little camera and may just pick one up for myself. I can take a picture of the setup tonight but both are mounted on a bonehead optic with a aluminum plate mounted on top of it. There is a cage for the CX12 and the TG1 was just mounted on my still plate and looked like a shark fin. I rather have people make their own decisions about these cameras. If the footage looks good for your own use, go with it. The CX12 has a bunch of cool features that the CX7 was lacking, white balance, quick access to settings etc. It takes unlimited stills while recording, but there is now a 12 second latency between the pictures. I should also note that I had the stabilization turned off while recording on both cameras. HYPOXIC
  13. For what it's worth, see the vids as mentioned on this post http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3301418; and those by cookie and company in this post http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3286328;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread HYPOXIC
  14. This weekend I strapped the CX12 and TG1 on my helmet for comparison. Make your own decisions. I highly suggest turning on the high quality on youtube. "Test jumps with a Sony TG1(Sony TG3) vs. a Sony CX12 (Sony CX11). CX12 has a Rayonx 5050 lens and the TG1 is stock. The TG1 was mounted poorly on a still camera bracket, so think there may be some wobble in that, the CX12 in a custom Terry Schumacher Cage. I have a cookie box for the TG1 on order so will reshoot the TG1 footage when I get it inhouse. All were jumps done in the same day. Both controlled by a HYPEYE D PRO. Most all body positions are covered. Head down to eventually belly on the horny gorilla jump, sitflying with the girl in black and pink with some back flying on that jumps' exit. And of course tracking with sudsyfist giving me the middle finger. Sorry about no really sick dives, its the summer in the middle of the desert Oh and probably want to switch to the HD mode for this video." 15. I would flip the swivel clamp so the black part is on the articulating side and the other hole is on your ring sight. Worth a shot... HYPOXIC
  16. You can surely give it a shot, but the magnet is stationary and the coil is what moves in this assembly. Think you would just be making it worst, but we don't know until someone gives it a shot. HYPOXIC
  17. Trevor I do not think that will act differently, but give it a shot. I thought I posted the picture of the stabilizing assembly but did not see it. Here it is, if anyone is interested. The y axis comes in and out of the picture, its drawn more like a z. HYPOXIC
  18. I'll have my hands on a CX12 this weekend that I plan on doing a few sitfly jumps with. Monster makes me shake anyway, but the flutter is noticeable beyond that. I'll get my TG1 back from Terry and see how that works too. Mike has been giving me a ton of crap since I have not jumped it yet. On scott's note, I've had an idea for a few weeks but have not tried it out. All of us were trying to squash the air hitting the CX7, I think the opposite might be true. Perhaps forming a small "ram air" directly onto the camera may help make the burble there disapear. I'm not a aeronautical engineer but its worth a shot. As far as a view finder, you can always plug a small LCD into the Debrief jack on the HYPEYE D PRO. I have not searched for something like this yet, but sure its out there. -Trunk HYPOXIC
  19. Kashton, I made that comment because when most are first starting skydiving, their reaction times to events are more delayed than people that have been jumping for a while. I was trying to use this video as an illustration to someone with low jump numbers that wanted to start shooting video. The unexpected happens and although sometimes things happen brutaly fast (ie cypres fire going headdown) other times you have a split second to react. That is one of the reasons why most of us agree its better to gain some jumps and increase that awareness before strapping a helmet on one's head. My illustration somewhat got lost, but that is all I wanted to convey. As far as the poll I meant @ the moment of the pilot chute in your face. Oh well.... I choose the rodeo mr bill one, wheeeeee
  20. Yes you guys got me... I do need to stow my excess.... The toggles are double stowed so I'm suprised they have that much slack in them, guess I never noticed. Fine, fine, fine, I'll start stowing them this weekend HYPOXIC
  21. Here is the video on vimeo. That was my second time doing 4way video and I was doing it as a favor... fun fun. As far as opening high, everyone has their opinion on it. In this moment, that was my decision. I quickly caught up to the guy and made sure he was ok. I also, as when I deploy in the middle, waited until I see the other groups open before I turned up the line of flight. In this case I actually immediately did a 180 away from the line of flight since there were no groups exiting before us. As for what if the guy had a cutaway... who tracks below a tandem? Who ever had a spining mal and ended up dangerously close to someone else even though they tracked? This is the chaotic sport we live in. HYPOXIC
  22. You may be able to see from the video that I am watching where the other three are going and actually had my hand on my pilot chute waiting for them all to clear. After the hd cypres fire jump I was on last year one of the things I took away from that was if someone gets pulled out earlier, you may want to catch up with them under canopy and check them out/ help them keep concious. On another note, hindsight is 20/20 and a black pilot chute on a black rig is not the easiest thing to see when you are focusing on the center and framing. I personally thought I did pretty good. Its funny I slid a tad when I first saw it come out and then was like, hmmm should give this a tad more room... love how fast your mind works in these situations. HYPOXIC
  23. I had a fun video jump two weekends ago and finally had a chance to post it. So for those that are thinkin about slapping on a camera with low jump numbers, check it out... 4 Way Premature Deployment HYPOXIC
  24. I got some questions about the CX11E so assuming its already out in Europe. Perhaps your Sony guy is not totally in the know... Check out the link: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/cam-high-definition-on-memory-stick/hdr-cx11e -Trunk HYPOXIC
  25. Hey what about me? HYPOXIC will happily donate a HYPEYE D PRO for the raffle. I know its a late entry, but hopefully we can make something work.... HYPOXIC
