  1. The helmet setup look pretty good, just make sure to reduce all snag points possible. I don't think that polarizer is going to do you any good though, probably just cause problems. Polarizers only work when you are able to place them in a certain relation to the sun, then you have to rotate the elements to get the desired effect. You can't do this in freefall so it really won't do much good.
  2. I have had DVRaptor for 4 years, and I have premiere 5.1 I capture through premiere using the DVraptor capture card. When calling Canopus technical support they said slow motion capadability with premiere wasn't built in so I needed to DL this extra program and do it outside premiere or get a higher priced and better card. With that said, it with DO slow motion, its just that its jumpy and not 100% smooth. It is when rendered through their extra program but it adds a ton of extra steps. I think they may have updated the raptor cards to do slow motion fluidly now though.
  3. I have canopus DV Raptor with Premiere. It just pisses me off a lot. The output works great and you can even use a client monitor, but you can't do slow motion which is very odd. Premiere can do slow motion just fine, but heres where it gets weird. To use DVRaptor you have to set premiere up to work with Canopus avi files, and canopus didn't integrate a speed control into the DVRaptor Codec or something so it doesn't work. I called canopus and this is what they told me and they said to DL a speed control program from their website to slow down the clips you want, then bring them up in premiere as seperate clips and put them on the time-line. It's not a premiere problem, just a canopus/premiere communication issue. This is why I just got AVID.
  4. I can't wait to get it in, it shipped today, unfortunately I also had to get windows XP pro and a new graphics card, but it should be worth it. So what is your experience with Boris and Xpro? Do you edit for a living or a hobby?
  5. I have done a little work with the Media Composer 9000XL, but hopefully quite a bit more this year. What do you mean by stabbing myself in the foot by using Xpress Pro as well as media composer? Basically I wanted to get more familiar with the AVID gui, so I figured XPro would be a good way to do that since I can't book the media composer all the time. I haven't worked with Boris Red, but I'd like to, I was tempted to get Xpro and Boris Red pro bundled together, but I'll just play with AVID for now. I saw some of the effects in Boris Red though and they were incredible, things like adding snow to a scene that's actually a sunny day and snow would even start building up on fixed objects. So much to learn, so little time...
  6. Things like 23.976 fps, 24fps editing, digitizing at different ratios like 10:1 and using timecode to redigitize and finalize projects, a lot of little things really. Premiere and after affects do a ton, but I think AVID would be better suited for me. I've only used AVID media composer 9000XL, but from what I've read express pro has a lot of the same features. I'd also like to know the AVID G.U.I. backwards and forwards since its what all film editors use.
  7. I checked with AVID and there is a nice pyro card the approve and its only $50. I think I'm going to give AVID a try, I'm tired of trying to get premiere to do things it wasn't designed for.
  8. I used to sit at my computer for hours trying to figure out problems such as this, then I got really tired of it and now I just call tech support and I don't let them off the phone until we fix the problem. Give adobe a call and see what they say.
  9. Does anyone know if this program comes with a capture board or any hardware or is it just the software. I couldn't find anything about it on AVID's site.
  10. I found a 16mm lense for the 10D, anyone who is using the 10D in the air, how will this lense work? Is it plenty wide?
  11. It may still look bad on other people monitors if they aren't calibrated to your monitor, and if its shown on TV's, every TV shows colors differently, and so do projectors. For just small videos, I really wouldn't worry about it too much, if you do a huge project that you want to sell, you might want to send it to an on-line editor some place like Photo-Kem and they can tele-cine it which will make all your colors match up accurately, but thats really pricey.
  12. I am coming to USC for the summer and I'm wondering if there are any jumpers out there with some extra space that might be willing to have anotehr roommate for about 2 monthes. If you might have some space or some advice on where I might find a place, PM me and let me know what the rent would be. Thanks, Chris

  14. Since I'm from Kansas I don't get to scuba dive very often, but I just got back from Paradise Island and I got to do some awesome dives. The dive shop was the old set for flipper which was pretty cool. Anyway, I got to go on a couple wall dives, one dive which was a huge reef with lots of fish and I shark dive where we had about 30-50 7 foot long sharks swimming around us in a feeding frenzy (they told us it would be a good idea to keep your arms crossed and fingers hidden). Scuba diving is awesome, its more of a soothing kinda sport than jumping though.
  15. I have single item insurance from state farm for items that aren't used for profit or business and I have my skydiving cameras insured for about $80 a year.
  16. Another thing I saw that would work well for filling the gap between a stroboframe and helmet surface is bungee straps secured under the helmet. It's tough to describe, but you have 2 loops coming out each side which attach to the sides of the camera, like where the strap would hook on. Then if lines try to sneak in there they just bounce off the bungees. I saw this on one of the new flat tops from 2KComposites.
  17. I don't have any experience with the digital rebel, but I've had my 10D for a while and I've shot a few thousand images. I don't have one bad thing to say about the camera. I've even taken it climbing in Scotland just recently and it was exposed to the worst conditions possible for a camera, but its never missed a shot. It will soon be exposed to freefall when I get home. I'd highly recomend this camera to anyone in the market.
  18. If you really wanna side mount it, make a c bracket out of aluminum or buy one, screw it onto the side, mount the camera tightly so it won't shake, fill in all gaps where lines could snag and your done.
  19. If you get married, don't you get screwed as far as taxes or something? I've heard the term the "marriage penalty"? Why would you want a legal marriage that bad if you just get screwed over?
  20. You could make your own cutaway setup, but I'd probably want some smaller rings than used on a mini riser. Also, if you decide to make your own, you will want to contact RWS for the specs on building three ring systems because even with a simple cutaway system, if you don't build it to the right specifications it might not work, especially when under a load.
  21. I am planning on going to Eloy, but I thought maybe there might be anothe person who wanted to compete but didn't have a team mate. I'm headed to Eloy though for sure now, is anyone else from KSUPC going? Anyone driving?
  22. what do you mean by no lock tight or torgue stripes?
  23. I would say your best bet is to get a chin-cup for it and maybe the flat top attachment from Bonehead and a D-box for your camera. I think it would be kinda tricky to side mount with those things over the ears, but I can't tell much from the photo. As far a quick release, I personally think I can just get out of my ratchet chin cup if I need to, but if you want a single point release like a cutaway, you probably want to check out something like the chin cup cutaway from 2kcomposites. www.2kcomposites.com I haven't seen any other chin cup cutaway methods so far, but I know there are a few hand made ones out there. Talk to someone who flies camera at your DZ, they can help you out in person a lot more anyone can over the internet.
  24. So is anyone going to compete at Collegiates in the freefly competition? I was going to go, but I don't have anyone to compete with right now.
  25. There was a guy on one of the WFFC videos that had to cut away his helmet and it actually ended up entrangling in the main lines above him. The canopy was flying fine so he landed it and the camera actually happened to be filming him so he got some cool footage of him landing from the canopy's perspective.
