  1. Don't bother with local fabric stores. For instance, the thread we use for a lot of repairs (E thread) is referred to sometimes as 69 nylon. I initially went around to fabric stores and asked for type E thread. They looked at me like I was an idiot. Then I asked for 69 nylon. Still they looked at me like I was an idiot. The lady said "that sounds like some sort of weird fabric." If you want thread, I would order it from paragear or DJ and associates. If you want to find it locally, go to a shop that sells industrial machines and equipment. You can ask for 69 nylon, 3 cord, 5 cord etc... and they actually know what your talking about. Places like Joann's fabrics are useless... unless you want scissors.
  2. I was wondering why ZP gives you so much lift in the tunnel. I've heard again and again that ZP suits from Ouragon and Tony Suits give you a great ammount of lift, but I can't figure out why?
  3. I know some industrial machines out there have walking foots like the Consew 206. I have heard the walking foot is to aid in even fabric feeding when sewing at very high speeds. Anyone have experience sewing with a walking foot machine? How do they perform with canopy fabric, jumpsuits, webbing, etc..? I used one quite a while back but I don't remember much about it. I am in the market for my first machine.
  4. quincy, I'm guessing you back jumping again??? Ya, it sounds like the doc may have been being a tad dramatic, but I'm going to lay off jumping for now and do some therapy, then see where my disc is at. But I'm lucky its not a severe rupture, I am actually not in any pain at the moment and have no tingling/pain in my arms/legs. And I've been told that's a great sign.
  5. I did have an MRI, both doctors I talked to said that surgery would ABSOLUTELY not be necessary. And apparently a ruptured disc can heal, but it will always be weaker. I'm thinking I'll take some time off, do physical therapy, get another MRI, see how things are and hopefully get a spectre and get back in the air.
  6. So I recently found out that I have a ruptured disc in my neck at C5-6 and another bulging disc. This is most likely the result of an extremely hard opening I had with a lot of other camera equipment on my head. This is my best guess since I haven't ever had any other injuries that made my neck even sore. My question is, has anyone else ever had this problem or have a ruptured disc in their neck/back? My doctor advised me to stop skydiving while I go through physical therapy, but also advised me that any further trauma to my neck (which will always be weaker as a result of this) could lead to anything from severe disc rupture (lots of pain and surgery) to spinal cord injuries. Just wondering if anyone else has gone through anything similar to this?
  7. For all you LA jumpers, do you know of a skydiving operation out of Burbank Airport (Bob Hope Airport). There's no way skydiver's could land there, but I met a guy the other day who said he's been doing static line training with an instructor who flies out of Burbank airport and flies out over the mountains or something where they jump. At first I thought it just might be someone talking themself up, but he knew all about static line training and seemed honest. I'd love to be able to fly out of Burbank and jump, but I never thought there would be an operation up here. I couldn't find anything on the internet about it. ?????
  8. Sure, I'll give you some pictures. Email me, tell me more. I have quite a few.
  9. Anyone ever heard of this or seen it? I opened my reserve today to pack it and there were traces of green discoloration around the grommets on the slider and anywhere on the lines or canopy that th grommets touched while in the pack. I emailed PD some pictures and they thought it was the marker they use in construction. However, just a second ago, I wiped the grommets with a dry white cloth and it turned bright green. I sent another email back to PD to see if they know what might be causing it, but has anyone here seen this or know what causes it? A friend of mine who is also a rigger said it is the brass tarnishing which shouldn't harm the canopy and it doesn't seem to have affected the strength of the fabric.
  10. As far as weddings, don't undersell yourself, and make all your pricing perfectly clear right away. I've gotten complaints when people think the prints should have been included in the original price so make things very clear. I'll tell you what I charge, maybe that will help you. Here's a basic idea of what I charge: Basic: $500 - wedding ceremony and wedding party portraits Deluxe - $750 - pre-wedding activities, ceremony, wedding party portraits, and reception photos. Ultimate - $1,300 - rehearsa dinner, pre-wedding, ceremony, wedding party portraits, reception, and any other photos requested. Those prices are just for shooting it, but the ultimate package comes with $300 worth of free prints. All prints are extra and sold seperately. I think I charge about $18.00 for an 8x10 and they go up or down from there. You'll probably get asked for lots of favors because when you shoot free weddings and you're good at it, everyone is your best friend. I'd say only shoot free stuff for immediate family or you'll get hit up everywhere. Good luck, have fun and take an extra everything. Literally, have two of everything, because whatever it is, if you need it, it will break at the ceremony.
  11. Hey, I just got handed a documentary of John Vincent's jump from the WTC towers. It only had about 2 seconds of actual jump footage, but its the best BASE video I've seen. Anyone else seen it? It's called "FreeFallin" Guess what song it uses, lol. So where is this guy now?
  12. It's a Canon GL1. It is 3 chip, but I think its a better skydiving camera than the GL2. The only difference between the 1 and 2 is that the GL2 has better audio and is bigger. We don't record audio and smaller is better. I've had the GL1 for 6 years now and today is the initial (not first) jump for it. The quality is great, but I think I'll mostly stick with my PC101 unless I really want really high quality video. It was a heavy beast and I don't think it'd be worth jumping for most jumps.
  13. I got my 2k Composites Azimuth and I have my first mounting config. done. I'm still waiting on a D-box so I thought, what the hell, mount the big guy. I did some jumps with my 10D on top and I love the helmet. Can't wait to get the second top plate so I'll have a complete array of options. Opinions on the helmet?

  15. It is my birthday today and here's what I wish I could have: 1. For people to enjoy the films I make. 2. To be someone's willing sex slave. ;) 3. free rigs for life. 4. free jumps for life. 5. a pet monkey (like in Indiana Jones), now that's just cool.
  16. The police are there to enforce our laws. If they fail to abide by them, then they should be subjected to the same consequences as everyone else. I think all repubs and dems would agree with that. If some cop robbed you, and his station nor IA would listen to you, your responsibility as a citizen should lead you to your state's bureau of investigation, then the FBI or to a private attorney to act on your behalf.
  17. www.cadillacunder5.com Anyone enter the contest? Looks pretty sweet.
  18. And then there's Match, in line number 3, buying blue condoms -no comment. And if it was just one girl buying choc. sauce, then there might be a party in the works, but since it was 3 girls in PJ's buying 10 gallons of ice cream along with it, I think it was more of a sulky slumber party. "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. And then find someone whose life has given them vodka, and have a party!" -Ron White aka tater salad
  19. Just saw something funny that I thought I would share. So I'm at Dillons, and there are two lanes open. In one lane, two guys, each one buying a bunch of roses. In the other lane, three girls, buying a total of 10 gallons of ice cream, choc. sauce, cookies, caramel, and butter scotch. Now that's a picture you can only see on Valentine's day.
  20. Check out www.invidious.net All of their titles were done with after affects. Another good option would be the borris package. Borris Graffiti is the title program but Borris Red 3GL is also a kick ass effects program.
  21. I have put 400 jumps on an FF2 which was a much earlier model than yours and I have never noticed one bit of camera flutter.
  22. Has anyone else seen this movie yet? I saw it last night and it was one of the most incredible movies I've seen in a long time. I also saw The Aviator which was equally good. If you haven't seen these movies yet, go see them!
  23. Blaze, I've shot quite a few projects with the DVX. Most recently a music video which was a 3 camera multi cam shoot. We also shot some 16mm and 35mm film of some of the scenes to see how they will mix. The 24p footage looks a lot closer to film that 30i does, but its not completely "film like" yet. The closest thing is probably the Viper Filmstream or Panavision Genesis (but they're $$$$$ and HD). Triax, that was some nice footage of the tandem. I have noticed some flutter in pans and moves in 24a mode, but going to 30p in the air reduces flutter? Is it possible to jump the camera without a wide angle lense or is it really necessary to get decent footage?
  24. Has anyone jumped the new Panasonic DVX100a? Just curious how it does in the air. A few of my friends have them and I've been meaning to jump one and see how it goes.
  25. I seriously doubt that any network like ESPN would even think about broadcasting the nationals without getting all the rights in advance. For a large network like that, its much less risky and makes more sense to pay the videographers a few thousand dollars for their footage instead of risk a lawsuit for hundreds of thousands later.
