  1. There's lots of suit options, and as has been said, I wouldn't buy one without jumping it first. You also don't need to worry about buying a suit and upgrading quickly. Sadly, in WS, people treat them like downsizing canopies in reverse. They automatically assume you have to get the biggest wings they can, as quickly as they can - which is usually to the detriment of their skills advancement. Depending on the kind of wingsuit flying you want to do, you'll probably find a smaller winged suit is the one for you. I'm very fortunate in that I have my pick of a number of wingsuits of varying sizes - right up to the huge - but the suit that lives on my rig 95% of the time is my Phantom 2z. I really love this suit, and really, really enjoy to fly it. I can stay bang on with any flock - even the really slow falling ones, and still disappear come break off. It's a fantastic all rounder, with bags of performance, but the wings are small enough to not cause any concern come pull time and is the suit I put a lot of students in for FFCs. There's a lot of us wingsuiters up at Sibson most weekends and between us we have a number of demo suits, so why not come up, say hello, and try a few on. I should certainly have a Phantom2 that will fit you
  2. Dude... You've let the side down :( Where's your sunnies in this pic? This is not a regulation 'Campos' Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies

  4. Two reasons: 1) This system apparently has flaws. From what I understand, it doesn't work well if you have the wrong type of clothing on underneath the sleeves. 2) The majority of suits out there use a zip based release system. Why not teach students how to use them right from the start. Muscle memory is a good thing in high stress situations. It shouldn't be a surprise. Surely the ws coach would have gone over deployment techniques with the student until they were confident it wouldn't be a surprise? Cutaway then deploy the reserve. Again, surely something that would be covered in a decent FFC? Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies

  7. Not to get back in to the whole profile drama, but based on what you've said, and what you've updated your profile to since you first posted the question, I really do think you should hang up the suit for a little bit and work on just skydiving. Seriously, it's great that you've got such an interest in suit design - there should be more people like you - but jumping anything that adds complication to the jump at such an early point in your jump life could help end it quickly. Where in the world are you? If it's anywhere near the UK, i'd be more than happy to show you a whole range of suits and explain how they work etc, but really, jump for now, have fun then worry about making things harder later on

  10. As great as it is being interested, if your profile is correct, you absolutely shouldn't be jumping anything like that. Whereabouts do you jump? It might be that a local jumper can talk you through how things work

  12. This to me says everything. We as a community should not afraid of offending anyone, just because we question the methods being dictated. Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies

  15. Due to very limited funds I will not not be able to attend, but as I'm sure you're aware, would like to be a part of this. If the external people who also cannot make it to the US aren't able to also participate, via audio, is there some other way of having our thoughts aired? 16. Ok, so if you go through the entirety of the other thread, you're going to get lost, and no doubt have your opinion swayed one way or the other. Lets start this new thread to discuss how we now move forward. We have a clean slate. We can start from fresh using the knowledge that we have, and build on it to create something that the whole community is proud of. Let's not try to rush something, but instead actually work on getting a solution that is respected not only by the people who wingsuit, but also the wider skydiving community. Currently there are discussions to hold the first session at F&D. Who should attend, and where should we take it from there? Please only use this thread for constructive discussion of how we should progress a record judging based system. Mods, please delete any posts that drift off topic, or are not helpful. Macca
  17. When packing the suit, try to lay it flat, layer the ribs on top of each other in the arms and legs (like an accordion) then roll the suit from the booties up. The mylar will last longer if it's rolled, then folded in on itself, as you spread the pressure out rather than concentrate it on one fold
  18. Best bet is to consider the cheapest of all the SPOT base products. It's called SPOTTING Look out the door, check the SPOT, figure out if you can get back to the DZ ad adjust your flight plan accordingly.

  21. OK - a question and a comment. Question: HOW do you plan to evaluate that a proposal has majority support? Comment: I have made a serious suggestion in another thread on this open and widely read forum for a different, quantitative and objective way of evaluating a 2-D wingsuit formation of any shape and design, I have given several examples, and asked for comments. So far only three people have made serious comments. Maybe the community really isn't interested. I propose majority support by collecting actual feedback from those who take part in the sport, not just assuming that what is being done is what everyone want - especially when such a large number of people seem against it (and I don't just mean the vocal people). To reply to your comment; perhaps people are now too scared to comment on ANY proposal for wingsuit record judging because they don't want to be seen to be in favour of one system over another. Or maybe, they just don't care. Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
  22. I've kept pretty quiet during this thread (unlike me!), but i've got to comment again after seeing an email that's floating around. It's come from you Phil, but looks like it was initially from Taya (her web address is on the bottom). I've got to say that the whole thing is nothing short of scandalous propaganda, with a number of well written misleading lines in it. Reading it has genuinely made me embarrassed to call myself a wingsuit flyer. Seriously, it is so petulant, there's no wonder the rest of the skydiving community don't take us seriously. Genuine question, what difference does it make to the USPA if the FAI accept the grid or not? How, if at all, will FAI acceptance or not of the grid based system affect USPA records? After reading the email, it really does leave me thinking that the person writing it has missed the point entirely and are trying to create a 'them vs us' mentality. The Dutch proposal is not like the grid. It is NOT asking for immediate acceptance of a system without wider consultation. It's completely opposite in fact. The proposal is saying that we need to WAIT to implement a system and actually figure out exactly what the wider community want, not a small minority trying to bull dozer their system in. I honestly couldn't care what system we ultimately use to judge things, but I do feel VERY strongly about a small group of people pushing something forward that doesn't have the majority support of those of us taking part in the sport. Also, we are of course very vocal on this forum, and I know there is only a minority of actual participants who actively take part in discussions, but I ask again, why is no one from the grid based system making their points here? Why are they using email to spread their one sided propaganda where all replies can be censored? For those who have not yet seen the email, I will PM it to anyone who wants to read it, but again, the terminology used is extremely misleading, so if you're an intelligent person who can see both sides of the fence, be prepared to not like it. 23. I've just seen two interesting articles here in the UK about the 68 way. Interesting how both of them mention the FAI and how it should recognize the grid system - what does this mean to wuffos? Nothing. Seems interesting timing considering the upcoming meeting, and the fact that the papers have already covered the record story before. I'm not saying the 'grid' is right or wrong, but I am saying as a wingsuiter I feel mighty pissed off that there seems to be this unstoppable movement trying to push in a system that from what I can tell is only supported by a small minority, but doing it as the 'voice' of everyone. Why are we not hearing from any of the originators of the grid in this thread? Why are they not asking what we the community think about the system?
