I am curious, NO BULLSHIT! Who would be willing to go to Baffin Island this year? There are a couple people that are interested. Looking at about $3500 for the trip. No guides. No helicopters. Just hiking, and jumping. Anyone seriously intersted, and have the money to do it?

Yeah, that's pretty much why nobody takes Shane seriously on this forum. Shane, aside from your skill as a BASE jumper (which seems to be more than adequate) and aside from your actual personality (we've never met so I have no idea, but I suspect you're just as nice and considerate as the next person) you're pretty much a jackass around here. You have information and knowledge that could be useful here. I know you think this forum is some kind of a joke that shouldn't be taken seriously. If so, why do you come here and post comments like that? I like Miles. I'm happy that he got nominated and won and I think that's a great thing for the future of BASE in Twin Falls. But what does Tom not being involved have to do with anything? Do you have something personal against Tom? If you don't like this forum, and you feel it's such a waste of time, or feel it's useless, then stop coming here. For example, there's internet forums about conspiracy theories, UFO's, why Kerry should have won, etc... I think those forums are absolutely rediculous and stupid. However, I don't go there and stick my nose in the middle of them just for the purposes of stirring shit up. That's exactly what you do here. A few of your posts have actually contained some of the information and knowledge I know you have. The rest though, are just trolling posts. That's not what this forum is for, and really, you should be banned regularly, or even permanently banned. Like I said earlier, this has nothing to do with your actual personality and jumping abilities. I'd like to be able to sit here and shoot ideas back and forth with you and actually learn something, but if you can't ever post anything productive here, I guess I'll just have to pick the brains of the 100 other experienced jumpers here. It's the truth. "BASE jumping is illegal" Until that very common misconception goes away, people will continue to call the police whenever they see a jump. If you land in the street, and a police officer sees you, he will assume that you need to be arrested. Once in TF, I even had a hard time convincing a tourist that we were perfectly legally jumping off the bridge. I talked to him for a couple minutes. Tourist: "This is illegal right?" Me: "Actually, this is one of the few places that we can jump, totally legally." Tourist: "So you're going to go out there and jump right now?" Me: "Yes, and this is actually the perfect place to watch from. If you want, you can walk out to the middle of the bridge and watch us from there." Tourist: "Do the cops know you're doing this?" Me: "Yes, we call them every morning and let them know that there will be BASE jumpers out here." Tourist: "Well, I'm going to call and ask them for myself." Me: "That's okay. I'm going to go jump now. Have a good day, Sir." (walking away thinking... "What the...?")

I think that the one person who really knows what is going on, will not be posting to this forum. The right thing to do is to find Scott, and let his family try to deal with the loss, without having to wonder. I'm really hoping someone can add the missing piece so we can put a close to this. I've pretty much exhausted my resources and turned up nothing additional to what Tom has posted. This is just a bad situation. I also hope that someone can find a way to contact "Mike."

I have been emailing with the author and I'm not sure what conclusion to draw, just yet. If anyone knows a Mike that jumps with a Scott in Norcal, that could help. Other than that, I'm waiting for her to email me back. If anyone wants to see the emails, PM me. I won't post them.

Why is that a horror story? Don't all BASE jumpers have three or four rigs?

What if they make a bad choice with limited knowledge of the subject, meanwhile, you could recommend a safer option based on your experience? Not all decisions in BASE are intuitive. Nobody thinks they're going to have a radically head-low exit on their first jump. I still see it happen all the time though. New jumpers need to be guided until they know enough to make the decisions themselves. So, in a way, yes. New BASE jumpers are in kindergarden. We need to keep them from eating the paste.

Horror stories? I'd be curious to hear about these. The standard production time is the same as it's been for a long time. If you're looking to get gear immediately, you may have to get used equipment. What timeframe is acceptable to you? The manufaturers who are building BASE gear are small operations. You're not going to find any major BASE gear manufaturer that's going to get you a custom rig in a couple weeks. What is the wait time on a custom skydiving rig? Added: Every order I've ever placed with Asylum has been shipped on or before the quoted completion date. That's where all my gear comes from.

When you realize how long the NPS has been absolutely screwing people over, then you will know where I'm coming from. So you're now a part of some board that I'm supposed to testify before to prove my opinions hold weight? No thanks. I don't feel that I need to justify my feelings on this matter. I'm done with it. I never asked for your approval. Maybe its because even if the words seem harsh and inappropriate, they convey an opinion that's held close to heart by most jumpers who have been around longer than a couple years.

You know Jaap, I like you, but you have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not interested in telling my side of the story, nor am I interested in entertaining any conversation with Link. None. I'm not here to argue with anybody, and I don't feel the need to justify my opinions about this matter. Until you experience a NPS bust, you really don't know. And save me the lecture about the risks and all that shit. You don't see me whining here. I don't care what you prefer.
