  1. caelncsu, I'd have to agree with G-hopper on this one... Carving front riser turns and toggle turns can both be considered hooks. And I know many people with multiple thousands of jumps who perform what you so nicely deem "Those are called panicked dumb ass turns, which are done by people who generally have no front riser experience...". I've seen these individuals out perform people using carving front riser turns as well. I would agree that toggle turns are much less forgiving than front riser landings, but to the experienced canopy pilot, they can be just as effective a method. I don't know why we're trying to specify the difference between carving front riser turns and toggle turns because a hook is a hook is a hook. -T1 C-30757
  2. I think the sun dance worked... It's beautiful out here in SoCal... -T1 C-30757
  3. Omri, I think you might want to first experience jump run before you make any decisions about what sounds gay... -T1 C-30757
  4. The brig might be worth it... Good idea. My next problem lies in the fact that I'm moving to Pensacola FL this summer to start flight school. Then it's a little more difficult to jump when you have to fly the plane... Maybe we can get together and have a DZ.com boogie when I get my C-130 rating? -T1 C-30757
  5. What are the chances that that was an accident? I'm thinking slim to none... Blue skies -T1
  6. No and I can't say I really want to either... No offense. Blue skies -T1

Good point... Who would want to live that far from the DZ anyway? Blue skies -T1
  10. Something tells me Josh is getting the raw end of the deal here... Blue skies -T1
  11. Froggie, Catholic school girl huh? That explains a few things... When are you going to show us a picture of you in your uniform??? Blue skies -T1
  12. Take control of your life and move to southern California. I'm sure there's enough of us out here that you could bum a spot on a couch till you sort out the logistics of where to live. 3 DZ's within an hour drive is the way to go. That and the weather will never do you wrong. So get out here!!! Blue skies -T1
  13. I don't know what's worse but being on a ship in the military makes it difficult to jump for several months on end. The worse part of it all is that we always deploy with a helicopter and I have to work on the flight deck every time it takes off and lands (3 times a day). Now I can't drive to the dropzone and there's a perfectly good aircraft right there and my rig is in my stateroom. If that's not enough to drive anyone crazy I don't know what it. I can't take it anymore... One step closed and I'm going to jump..... Blue skies -T1
  14. Haven't been able to do any yet, but Perris Valley does them almost every weekend and Skydive Arizona does them every once in a while. The whole thing about waking up at 5:00 on sunday morning just isn't working if you know what I mean. Blue skies -T1
  15. Any idea when these will be available Sangiro? Blue skies -T1
  16. My suggestion would be to do a couple of balloon jumps first. The launch is the same as it's from a stationary position and you have plenty of altitude if you screw up. Once you feel comfortable with that you can move on at will. Good luck. Blue skies -T1
  17. I've been using Adobe Photoshop for the Mac. I haven't found any problems with it so far. Blue skies -T1
  18. I'd suggest talking to some of the camera fliers at your DZ. They know your skill level better than us. One question that I would pose is: How comfortable are you in dealing with the additional emergency procedures that may be necessary with the camera? The camera adds the possibility of getting lines caught during deployment. Also, what type of canopy are you flying? How hard does it open? Will you get injured in the case of a hard opening with the weight of the camera on your helmet? I would get together with the camera fliers at your DZ. Good luck making your decision, and be safe out there. Blue skies -T1
  19. I'd have to go with blaze/sea/mardi gras. Good luck with your decision. Blue skies -T1

Thanks for the link Greg... That's an awesome picture. Blue skies -T1
  22. Grasshopper, You know, you're a real pain in the A$$... Hey, I'm coming up tomorrow and we can discuss this matter in more detail. Drive fast, take chances... Blue skies -T1
  23. They fly even with the big hole in the middle. I think the idea is to keep the chute falling straight. Probably to keep the assembly from 'Potato chipping'. All of the military cargo parachutes I've seen have been like that. We've given some of the chutes with damaged lines to the local schools for just this reason (after the lines are removed of course.) Blue skies -T1
  24. Good post, I have some experience in this. Some of us got together at Katzeye's place last weekend and got the bright idea to jump off her 2nd floor balcony into the living room (this was not in any way alcohol induced of course...). Didn't even get the pin to pull out of the rig. I guess 10 ft is just not enough altitude. Be careful out there. Blue skies -T1
  25. IFR clearance would not be a problem, as skydivers under canopy are considered aircraft for all intents and purposes. I'm just wondering though, won't the real problem be with all of the extra IFR equipment you would be required to carry with you and the extra long extension cord to operate it??? Just a thought.
