  1. How many 1 jump wonders have jumped there over the years and been carried or landed safely and never jumped again? ...FUN FOR ALL!
  2. I understand what you are doing and why (I think), but isn't it more acceptable to leave the slider above the risers if it has bumpers, and to pull it down if it does not? It has been my understanding and experience that problems can result from straying from the above described methods. I have slinks with no bumpers and I pull the slider down, but when I had rapide links with silicone bumpers it seemed dangerous to try to get the slider over them ( and a pain in the ass!) Just learning! ...FUN FOR ALL!
  3. The funny thing is that most helmets with or with out rating made for another industry other than skydiving cost half as much? why the hell are skydiving helmets so darn expensive? I can understand carbon fibre, but some helmets that are just plastic with some thin padding cost almost two hundred bucks. The Boeri I have been using was $100 and I would bet $$ that it has much better protection than many skydiving specific helmets. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  4. I have a Mirage and the d-bag has 4 locking stows. 3 out of 4 are Tube stows, 1 is a rubberband. I use 1 rubberband because I cant stretch a tube stow easily enough to get the first stow done. I also use rubberbands for stowing lines. They are easier to use, and not very critical. David ...FUN FOR ALL!
  5. That's True, but my harness attaches to my head, so I would be taller! ...FUN FOR ALL!
  6. Just Speculating- Are penetration and Glide angle possibly different parameters? In a perfect, no wind day, the true glide angle could be flatter on the Spectre, while flying into even the slightest head wind could give it less penetration? Is this possible? ...FUN FOR ALL!
  7. If you had hard openings, I would think that you would be taller! Search this topic, there has been a lot of advice posted on this forum. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  8. I didn't have to jump my pack job to get signed off, I had to learn how to pack so I could get on loads. I started packing at about 4 jumps, I was tired of standing around the DZ watching skydiving when I could only afford 1 jump per day. Once could get all of the canopies line checked and flaked out for the packer, then I started learning how to fold them up and put them in the bag (flat packing). I am a smaller jumper and in order to fly the smallest parachute (PD 260) of the student rigs, I learned to pack. By the time I had my A license and got my own rig, I was a packing fool. I agree with the European attitude expressed earlier...This sport should require rigging knowledge to be able to participate. Pack jobs should be available only to tandem rigs and student rigs, and those who can convince their SO to learn how to pack for them. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  9. What does Mirage have to do with anything? ...FUN FOR ALL!
  10. Learning Sake...the japanese wisdom brew!! I imagine it was target fixation leading to a low pull and possibly a 2 - out.... am I close? I have heard of these before. My AFF instructor had video of a pumpkin and her going f&*% , f*&^, until she landed under 2. I don't think she ever put the camera on again. ...FUN FOR ALL!

Would you say that more people would have an ASE number if they were available? ...FUN FOR ALL!
  13. Would it not be better to have a canopy with a longer recovery arc to learn swooping? With such short recovery arc, it seems to me that you would have to push your initial turn altitude dangerously low. Why do so many people jump the Stilleto? What makes it such a good canopy, and is it really an appropriate canopy to follow the Sabre? ...FUN FOR ALL!
  14. I agree, but my point is that unless you are in a category that statistically has higher paying and/or more plentiful career outlooks, don't bet on your future income. I came out of college with an astounding 30 K credit card debt and 16 k student loan debt, I bought my entrance to skydiving with 75% credit cards. I only make 40K, which isn't bad, but it not great either, and I am in Escrow! My primary point is that financing you life is not bad if you can maintain some sense of control. I don't jump on credit cards any more, all of my debt is at 2.9% for life, and my income is greater than my outgo, so it can be done. I definately agree that freedom is the biggest sacrifice for debt. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  15. It sounds like you have your head in the game. Pack, strip, get an AFF instructor as an SO, do what it takes to stay in the air! Have Fun! ...FUN FOR ALL!
  16. What is your major? If it is Liberal Arts...Don't touch the credit card. If it is information technology, pre-med, computer science, etc you may have brighter outcome and be able to afford to borrow. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  17. Credit Card = Good Idea Just know what you are getting into. People borrow hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy houses, cars, furniture, etc. I payed cash for housing (rent), cars, and furniture when I was in college. I borrowed money (credit card) to learn how to skydive and buy my first rig. Am I in debt? Yes. Can I afford my monthly payments? Yes. Was it worth it? Hell Yes! If you are smart with credit cards, you can get interest rates lower than any rig manufacturer financing, mortgage, personal loans, etc. Develop a plan, and justify your spending. If it is not worth the joy that you get from the sport, then don't do it. I refuse to stop having fun because I don't have money. Where there is a will there is a way! ...FUN FOR ALL!
  18. To be honest with ya....I can pack my Sabre 1 to open great. The Sabre 2 opened ok. Soft, but way off heading. I had to keep my head on a swivel when it opened because I had no idea where it was going to go for the first 4-5 seconds. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  19. I have never seen lelicopters, except in movies (I know what you mean though) Did you mean thermals or terminals? Are the thermals going to cause major problems with round canopies designed for such exits? I imagine it would be hard to get out of the window, but people have managed to do it the past. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  20. I think that in the case of 9/11, if you are hucking yourself out the window without a parachute, anything over your head would be good. Sometimes the stairs are not an option. I think straight down under a round with a static line would be the way to go. Nothing to operate, just hook it up, jump and pray. ...FUN FOR ALL!
