  1. I appreciate all the great feedback, but unfortunately, I do not have UMI on my bike. As it was stated earlier, the cost of Motorcycle insurance is drastically affected by additional coverages like collission and UMI. I paid $130 for a year of insurance (liability only) and the motorcycle was only $1700, so I did not see the need to spend too much on insurance. I guess I did not think about UMI and it was not mentioned as a selling point. The bottom line is that I am trying to find out what the law says in California, or what my best option is to get some money out of this guy. I don't think he has a lot of money, but he is a contractor for Charter Communications, so he does have a job. Thanks for the input. ...FUN FOR ALL!

  3. Law requires that we have insurance, which is why I am so pissed. If he can be uninsured and poor, what are the reprocutions (sp?)? I can sue him, and I will most likely win. I don't know that he has any money, and if it is worth it to go to that effort. I don't have uninsured motorist on my bike. I got what was required by law, and didn't even cover my own bike, I always thought I would not cause an accident on my bike, and if I did, I deserve the damage. The bottom line, is that neither insurance compnay is going to give me money, and I have to take matters in to my own hands. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  4. I want to share a landing that I had last weekend that made me glad that I am not a dummy. It was my first jump in 2 months (out due to motorcylce injury) and I was trying to do everything as safe as possible. I was on approach for a 90 degree front riser landing. When I grabbed my riser, i felt something wrong and looked up to see that I was not in the dive loop. I adjusted my grip and looked down to find that I was much lower that I wanted to be to finish the turn on a front riser. I immediately grabbed breaks and hung to complete a flat turn, yet there was not enough altitude for me to FEEL SAFE turning into the wind. I made some slight adjustments for a slight downwind landing into an open field, then let off the breaks for my landing. I came in fast and held the flare to the last possible moment. As I took two giant running steps in the soft plowed dirt, I went into the tuck and roll the skateboarding taught me so well. I came out looking like I had hibernating in the the dirt, but there was not impact force an any part of my body and I walked away laughing and proud that I made a good decision at a critical moment. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  5. I was in a motorcycle accident a couple of months ago, where the person who swerved into my lane (forcing me to impact a stopped vehicle in the lane that I retreated to) was found to be at fault by the police report. The officer gave me the policy number of the at-fault driver. After 2 months, I found out last week from my attorney, that the insurance company has closed the case, claiming that the driver was not covered at the time of the incident. My attorney simply said that without insurance there is nothing to go after. My only option is to go to small claims court, and I plan on doing that. Does anybody have any experience with this type of situation, and know of other rights that I might have? I am out a couple thousand dollars in medical bills and towing, etc. and I have yet to pay for the repairs to my totalled bike. Any help on this situation would be appreciated. ...FUN FOR ALL!

    Legal 'A's?

Its been discussed before, but it is more like property management. If you sell or rent spots on the A to companies that use it, then you could make money off of it and jump it. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  8. I would like to know how many people who have died hookin it in, have had previous "serious" injuries. I would guess not many. I keep reading posts about detecting intoxication...In my limited experience around jumpers who use drugs or alcohol prior to jumping, I have found that it is fairly known. It may not be obvious, but people know if there is somebody at the DZ who drinks or smokes before jumping. It has always been frowned upon, yet the back has always been turned. I have always avoided jumping with or in a group near these people. I find that it is a very difficult situation to "Do the right thing" about. I didn't say anything, because I was fairly cofident that the pilot, DZO, and STA all know and choose not to do anything. I have chosen to jump there, and I alson know that if I am not comfortable, I can choose not to jump there. The point...detecting a drinking/smoking jumper is not the hard part, protecting each other, and making a statement is very difficult in a lot of situations. ...FUN FOR ALL!

  10. Yeah, I have jumped out there, but I am not sure of their rigging capabilities. I am guessing that Dave has his ticket, but they are not available during the week. I am going back east next tuesday, and want to be able to take my rig. I am looking for someone somewhat local that does rigging out of their house. David ...FUN FOR ALL!
  11. I just moved to Fresno, and the rigger that I have used in the past is 2.5 hrs away. Is there anybody closer? Is there a rigger's list anywhere? There should be, I don't think riggers are in the phonebook, but there should be a similar listing. David ...FUN FOR ALL!
  12. Everybody will always say "someplace else"...Where is that? I would agree that with all of the crazy stuff going on at the WFFC, it is a bit more dangerous to throw this into the mix. But is it any more dangerous than all of the people swooping in at high speeds? What about the golf cart guy? Was that not dangerous on the part of the flyer and the guy driving a vehicle into the landing area? One person keeps siting the crosswind landing as such a close call and "one minute earlier..." A minute is a long time, that isn't a close call, and why flame the guys that are flying a straight in approach. The guys landing crosswind sound like the problem to me, flame them, site how they would have caused huge problems if they had done that stupid stunt a minute later because it would have been right in front of somebody landing a Mr. Bill. Is everybody here representative of the whole skydiving community, or are you all the "more conservative" ones. I would be interested to know if there are a ton of skydivers that could give a rat's ass about DZ.com and all of the talk that goes on here that are sitting there applauding these guys for making a pretty cool skydive?
  13. Anybody see the right guard commercial, where the guy smokes it in (No pull) then climbs out of the hole Wile E Coyote style? Is that what really happens if you don't pull on time? ...FUN FOR ALL!
  14. How the hell do you guys carve like Craig Saucier is seen doing at the Ranch in the Picture on the USPA calender? It looks like one of the most fun things you can do under canopy. Don't worry, I am not looking for instructions, and I sure as hell ain't gonna go out and try it. But from my limited experience, I just can't see how you could get yourself into that position. Does it require a lot of speed, or is just a precise timing thing? One day, I want to drag my end cells in the water! ...FUN FOR ALL!

  16. Would using baby powder or a rosin bag help? It seems like I always have trouble when the canopy is more slippery than my hands, and I can't extract my hands from the canopy with out the canopy following the hands. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  17. I would say that is a matter of opinion, but you are right about the thighs, face, forehead, forearm, feet, chin, chest, toes, knees, and any other part of your yoga ass that can keep it together while you get it in the bag technique. ...FUN FOR ALL!
  18. I second this. I had (lost it last weekend) a Jack that I sewed on to my jumpsuit leg. Easy to find easy to extract. I also have a Benchmade emergency knife that snaps into the legstap of my rig on the opposite side as the Jack. ...FUN FOR ALL!

  20. OOps, I guess I took it the wrong way. You were playing the devils advocate, and I am playing the devil's ....( Webster, help me out here) challenger. Either way, this thread is far too exciting to let you rain on the parade. I say T/F any fucker that is causing problemsw, throw em off the bridge with his bridle wrapped around his feet, with a .....how bout an Air Chair (seems suitable), then have what's his name film it from the rail. Then when he lands in Mr. Johnson's boat, he can get a ride back to the top and have the Sherrif Death Camp with the local tanning constituants. We'll put it on Real TV, and when we are old and grey doing bandits off of the P-span we can watch Vids of when it was legal and free like The Captain once was. PS: I need a mentor ...FUN FOR ALL!

  22. Why do you feel the need to defend him? Who said he was chased out of town? If he has the character that his defenders are claiming, it doesn't seem like he would be so easily run out of town. Is it possible he came to town, pissed on a bridge, and now is kicking grass on it? Nobody is saying he isn't a nice guy, he just doesn't get it. People are discussing here how to give it to him in a way that he will understand. He was spoken to, and his actions reflect a finger in the air attitude. I don't know the guy, not do I care about how he is judged or treated by INTERNET characters, but his actions can potentially ruin a fun activity for hundreds (maybe thousands) of people that are willing to play by the rules. ...FUN FOR ALL!

  25. I agree with you here, but it wouldn't become a saying if it weren't commonplace. I understand what he is saying, and have heard similar advice. I went from a Tempo to a PDR because of recommendations by instructors with many jumps. No blanket statement is true across the board, but his opinion is not completely off the wall. OF coarse there are people who have not had any problems with their tempos, and there are people that think they suck. I have heard from experienced skydivers that the Tempo has some inherent problems and it is worth the extra money to buy a PDR (or other). That is my opinion based on other people's opinions.
