  1. Thanks I think so too... But when I say it pushes..... strictly speaking any recircultiing tunnel has a flow which is accelerated, then just topped up (ie.. when the flow is moving the ER is better) So what I meant was, in some ways this makes it irrelevant where the fan(s) is (hope that makes sense) But I would agree... I had had to pick a category... I am a sucker Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  2. Last time I went... was not too bad on the whole... A couple of 'youre not in our group' types but them aside was a good place to jump.
  3. Hmm... would a re-circulating tunnel go into the sucker or blower category I wonder... As the flow is pulled then pushed Either way, based on all the debate within this thread I have decided to rename our facility to the Bedford Joy Pipe. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  4. You visit which websites?! Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  5. No. If those items are Knives / Guns or other deadly items.... that I dont need other than to escalate violence in a confrontation. You didnt respond before... so I'll ask again. Your sword carrying church attacker... do you think he should be allowed to carry his sword up until the point he firsts uses it? Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  6. Tell you what... I havent carried a kinfe around with me EVER, and I get by just fine opening my packages and eating food. If you live in a forest and hunt rabbits I take it back I am not even gonna start on why your one-step-off-knitting hobby is a problem Likewise if my hobby was role-play should I be allowed to walk the streets with an axe? Maybe when I go for a night on the town? Say YES to that and it says it all. That is because - if I could snap my fingers and remove all weapons from the world - I would. Whereas with a similar click you would see everyone wearing an ouzi and grenade belt. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  7. 1. No law stops a looney with intent. Agreed. 2. Prohibiting knives on the street stops the ego seeking youths from escalating violence when they look for trouble. If anyone gets caught with a knife in public - they get in trouble. Works for me. If you had your way.... the sword weilding looney would be allowed into the church with his sword and only be arrested when he actually stabbed someone! (or for public nudity!) In my book that is WAY too late. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  8. I realise how freakish you try to turn the things we say... I am saying this - in the simplest terms I can so you get the point. - Knives are important - and have a place in society. - Knives do NOT need to be carried in the street for defense. If anyone takes a knife with them to the pub, they deserve to be locked up... it is asking for trouble to mix drunken people / and deadly items. Cavemen needed to carry their clubs and flints to fight off each other I am sure. Today we should be different. No issue with you owning a knife. and keeping it where you need to use it. You dont need to use it on people - and hence dont need to carry it around in public places. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  9. That is where the point is - Lawful self defense. In the UK you are allowed to use REASONABLE force to defend yourself. Plunging a serated edge 9" blade just isnt reasonable at all. I would put myself in a category that has evolved since that time... would you do the same? However veiled this insult is, it is a perfect example of why you would get hate mail from your family. A little too strong and not adding to your debate. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  10. That was NEVER in question! Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  11. You see I just dont agree that carrying a large knife to pull on people when you have the need is right. And thankfully, in this country you would be arrested on the spot. As for PJ's arguement that people would then carry round a kitchen knife - if they were that similar you why dont you both have one of those? Arnt they cheaper but just as effective? The type of knife / gun / macho bollocks that goes into your decision processing regarding self defense just doesnt wash for mainstream people in the UK. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  12. I would read from that, the idea that Iraq is not the only or indeed the main source of terrorists on the planet. In fact, being a country of terrorists was not really the reasoning behind invasion at all. Now though, after invsion I would bet we have more people in that country that would subscribe to terrorist ideals than we did before this started. So, I would have to agree in part with the wealthy moron that invading Iraq / obtaining good oil deals / using up artillary and fueling the US economy are not necessarily the best way to fight terrorism. 13. The tendency is to move away from manufacture and sale of pointless weapons... who really needs a sword nowadays?! yes youre right... a sword collector. And a 10" hunting knife? necessary for all those people that still go out an chase after dinner? If people around the globe spent more time looking for productive hobbies and interests... I would back that with law anyday. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  14. As long as that laser knows the difference between a mortar round and a British helicopter Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  15. Depends if his political beliefs led him/her to be an asshole. For example, wouldnt necessarily hang or be nice openly to someone with views like being a Nazi or strong member of the BNP etc... Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  16. lol.. talk about selective quoting what happened to the dictionary entry of 'obsolete' Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  17. Thats one of the reasons I would leave discussing politics to places like SC Although, please dont take this the wrong way... Your interaction style is fairly confrontational (certainly in the posts you make on here) so that may be a reason you get a more extreme response on issues like that... Not saying that is wrong - just a possible cause. I know this through personal experience as I often slip into over-eager and come across too strong - definitely changes how people respond to me.
  18. I'll take a stab at an answer.... and it would be a yes from me... they could add value. Although I dont see that as the point (as its more relevant to ask would skydivers want to talk about tunnels in relation to skydiving) rather than would non-skydivers have anything to add! If I wanted advice on flying skills, I am sure they could advise as well as anyone who has jumped. Despite never having used a canopy. Freefall time is very closely emulated by a tunnel and thats why I see the flight experience of both to be interchangable. When I did AFF the tunnel played a huge role for my friends and myself.... and continues to do so for training.... Only question really is, is there enough wind tunnel specific chat to warrant a category of its own? I would have thought, if you really believe that wind tunnel discussion is irrelevant to skydiving..... you would welcome the idea it is taken out of the forums you use, thus removing clutter.... and you wouldnt have to enter and read it in a seperate place?! Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  19. Definition of Tunnel.... An underground or underwater passage. A passage through or under a barrier. Obsolete. The main flue on a chimney. Surely doesnt matter which way you face... done of these apply Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  20. lol.. I am not denying that the way they are referred to now is a recognised label.... but when the first person called one a 'tunnel' they were a bit off the mark Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  21. Been thinking... always a bad sign!! Why do we call them wind Tunnels?! Tunnels are only underground passages etc.. (as defined by the dictionary) Surely we should call them Wind Funnels?! well they are fun too... so maybe a rename is in order Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  22. Think this is very much down to the individuals involved.... For me, the only reason I skydive is the freefall time (which I can do in a tunnel much the same) Yes, i need to be altitude aware, and safe under a canopy but I only use those as a means to an end. Taking getting to the ground safely after my jump aside - I can learn nearly everthing in a tunnel bar tracking... which I think is relevant to my skydiving history. As for number of people that would use or discuss the topic... just count the number of 'agrees' above your disagree Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  23. I couldnt have said it better myself ;o) It is an expensive business to start up... so you need to go for the largest market available to you... This is why I want to be clear from the start, I see the Bedford Tunnel as a skydiver facility primarily. Block bookings and groups focussed on training. If I were in the position of building from scratch, that definitely wouldnt be the case.
  24. Now I wasnt expecting that! lol Cus this is a parallel that I would have thought infringed on peoples freedom.... Large display fireworks are designed to be pretty, not to blow things up... a tool right? If someone wanted to blow things up... they could buy lots of small fireworks and cut them up... So why would display fireworks be restricted? Damn governments Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  25. Hmm... just been doing a little digging around.... and it looks like there is legislation in Florida about buying fireworks?! Hey PJ - looks like our nanny state here has infected the US in a pre-emptive manner Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
