1. Bill, You've still got the spirit....can't be too old if wingsuiting in Norway gets you all excited! I'l be hoping for the best for you. Hang in there! Cheers, Murray
2. They're banging on each other in training camp, which is what Burke wants to see so I think the fighting part will happen for you. Don't know about the playoffs though. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

4. Leafs are going to make the playoffs ... according to Burkie. on the news tonight they showed a couple of Leafs scrapping with one another in their practices. Burke was saying how he wanted them to be "truculent". Seems to me he is emphasizing physicality over skill. I don't think it will work very well.....but we'll see. I think the Sharks are a better team without Nabokov. Nabbie just didn't have it in the playoffs. The Habs keeping Carey Price and letting Halak go...we'll see how that works out as well. 7. Don't know about the warranty if you jailbreak it but I don't know if that would allow you to get Flash on it. I hate Flash on my Macs...Adobe's fault...as it is a total resource hog. My Macbook's fan comes on about 15 seconds after a Flash video starts running. Adobe has known about this for years and never fixed it. One of the major things I like about my iPad is the long battery life and Flash, in it's current incarnation, would likely kill the battery very quickly. Due to the fact Apple is producing 1.5 iPhones a second and millions of other iOS devices that don't run Flash many sites are making their content available in H.264 or HTML 5 so not having Flash is less of an issue. That being said, Flash isn't going away, I read an article earlier this morning arguing that this controversy has been good for Flash as Adobe has gotten off their butt and started to make necessary improvements. Take a "http://blog.laptopmag.com/mobile-flash-fail-weak-android-player-proves-jobs-right"]look at this review of Flash on other mobile devices....there is lots of work that needs to be done. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
8. Billy, If you hold down your finger close to where you want to insert the cursor, a little magnifying glass will appear and this allows you to insert the cursor where you want with much more precision. This frustrated me as well until I was shown this by one of the guys in our local Mac store. Nataly, I wonder if some of your frustration stems from the fact that this new user interface is touch based and as a result many things are done differently? if there are specific things that you can't figure out how to do perhaps some of us on here could helps you deal with those things? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
9. Nataly, Considering that Steve Jobs felt the Flash issue important enough to write an open letter about it back in April and the copious amounts of debate about this aspect of the iOS operating system I am surprised you bought an iPad not knowing that. I have no idea what your expectations were going in but it looks to me like you didn't do much research. I hope that Apple will give you your money back so you can find something you are happy with. 10. How important is frame rate? A local electronics dealer just had a demo running showing the difference between 120 and 240 hz refresh rates on some led and lcd units...looked pretty dramatic but I wonder if the books were cooked if you know what I mean. I note that a lot of the plasma units have a 600hz refresh rate. If watching sports and say, gaming, is your main use would this point towards a plasma w/600 hz rate? Or is the difference between 120 and 600 not really noticeable in real life? Quit smoking

Pretty much ditto what Steve said. I quit 27 years ago and very occasionally when around someone smoking I will get a small craving. For the fellow above that is 9 months in....hang in there, you are over the worst and your life will be way better without smoking. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
12. I just saw my friend's Samsung Galaxy S today and he showed me Swype...I can really see how it would speed up input on these small screens after you have a bit of practice. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
13. I've read about this app. Do you use it? Does it really speed up using a touch keyboard? Did it take long to learn and become proficient? I just started swype texting on my Droid2 and it f'n rocks. It's super easy to learn, just drag your finger to each key instead of tapping individually, way faster. Wish I could do it on my PC. One tip is just use one index finger to do most of the swiping. Cool. A friend of mine just got a Samsung Galaxy S and it has it installed as an option so I'm going to check it out in a couple of days when I see him next. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

13 YO. RIP

Let's see..martial arts, swimming lessons, surfing lessons, paragliding, sailing, fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, buying a cabin so they can go exploring in the bush etc, etc ...I don't think I'm shielding my kids from life. I have a much larger comfort zone than a LOT of parents but motorcycle racing is completely outside it. For my kids I'll be the judge of what they can handle and what risks are acceptable. Your kids...do what you like but be ready to live with the consequences. Yep...we all die. We don't know when or how. Shit happens. I know that all too well. Anyways, goodnight all...nobody's going to change anybody else's mind. I expressed my opinion, you expressed yours. Take care and blue skies, Murray

13 YO. RIP

Call me old-fashioned, but I think a large part of a parent's job is saying "No". Kids don't have the life experience to evaluate risks and outcomes. Not a risk that I would permit my kids to be exposed to. My oldest son, 34 years old, bought a Harley a few years ago after many years of riding dirt bikes from an early age. Messing around on the small bikes he had with a couple of friends in a field is one thing, going 120mph on a track with others is quite another. (He lived with his mother a long way from me after the age of 4 but he had sensible people around that I trusted) You can comfort yourself by saying he died what he loved doing but he's still dead at the age of 13 and will do no more living or loving. It makes me very sad to see someone snuffed out so young and "doing what he loved" doesn't comfort me at all. I think there are lots of other fun activities for kids that don't put them at nearly as much risk. If you allow your kids to do this, I hope you are ready for the consequences. I can't think of anything more horrible than burying one of my three sons because I couldn't say No. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
18. i just started using 1Password to increase my security online and protect from phishing attacks. In conjunction with Dropbox...previously mentioned...all your devices are automatically sync'd if you add a login. I have it on my iPad, Touch, office computer and home computer. You just have to remember your master password and can have it generate these monster passwords you'd never remember. You can also log in to a website to retrieve passwords if you are not at one of your own devices. It deletes the information from the clipboard 30 seconds after it is copied. Pretty handy system for these days of identity theft and online scams. WindowsBeta Info Mac Info Links to the iPad and IPhone information are on those pages. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

13 YO. RIP

They same thing can happen on bicycles! Risk is part of having fun in many cases! I don't think many kids are killed by another kid on a bicycle. Running someone over at the age of 13 and killing them ..... not a situation I agree with placing a kid in. That being said, a lot of parents wouldn't agree with me buying my 10 and 12 year old boys tandem paragliding rides in Maui last year but I don't see that as bearing the same sort of risk to others. I think that the kid hitting the other boy is what bothers me the most about this situation. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

How about the kid that hit him? Personally, I think 13 year old kids should be riding bicycles, not motorcycles. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
