1. Maybe go swimming in a river with very bad rapids.
2. Spoke to iFLY Orlando yesterday June 16th and was told the June 27th date is good to go. She referred my sign up info to Eric Gomez who will be handling the details.
3. No further word on the late June overnite camp I was previously told is being scheduled . Quite sure my source was as good as it gets but as Roberta Mancino said at 4:53 during the vid below "You never Know". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhmzmOwkRuM May try to do a reservation tomorrow. Probably will call to see who to email since I was told a new person has been given the responsibility of overnight camp management. Gotta get back in there - I'm gettin' the shakes from withdrawal. :) :( ?? Don't need a needle but so need the Tube.
4. From the Kitty Corliss vid - maybe catch a still frame at 32 seconds into the video of the cat all spread out leaping to see how many people know what it is from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Veg63B8ofnQ Not sure about copyright
5. Acceptance by others here that I am not a whuffo anymore is really appreciated but I never felt bad being one since I haven't exited an airplane yet which I'm thinking is what one must do to shake the tag - Since I haven't really jumped I just mention it in case some hardass (and there are a few here) that knows I haven't sees me giving tunnel advise don't jump my ass. LOL One day I may do a tandem but to be a skydiver with a rotten memory like I have, might be disastrous - I cannot imagine me remembering all the steps involved in packing a canopy into the container - I gotta feeling I wouldn't last 6 tries. :) Thanks jumpsalot-2 for the nice comment.
6. 10-15 minutes in the tunnel and u may be quite comfortable bellyflying. The light bulb went on for me around 10 but I am a whuffo.
7. Respectful whuffo here - I would say 10 -15 minutes in the tunnel will have you comfortable in belly flying and make the next few jumps more productive - push ups and arching stretches may help with tunnel endurance if the back isn't a little flexible now. To me the tunnel is a blast itself.
8. The building permit applications are in to Broward County's building department and past the public review NIMBY stage. Expected opening Apr/May 2016. iFLY's new tunnel will be located on SR84 about 1.8 miles East of the I-75/I-595 interchange or for those more familiar with the area .8 miles East of Flamingo Road on SR 84 (SR 84 is S of and parallel to I- 595). I was given the street address but misplaced it - will try to upload a jpeg from google earth. Just happened to be speaking to iFLY Orlando the other day and we discussed this and a few other things. Orlando will be getting a new single or double also. Will be kind of sad for me to see the old one go even though I've only been going there for a year or so. Sticker shock may be hell when the old tunnel disappears. :( $$$
9. Corpkid - U mean a Contact Sport - Right? :)
10. Here's an example of risk - Inka Titto as a Student https://vimeo.com/39331315 I think ricochet is an appropriate description here. ;)
11. Tunnel flying at times convenient for your schedule is OK but you may want to check into "overnight camps" in Orlando's tunnel which schedule flight times all night long after regular hours once every few months. During these camps u buy time at much reduced rates in 15 minute increments (no less than 15). The sessions include coaching and dvd's of your sessions (but tipping coaches is understood to be part of the deal). Maybe email them at [email protected] They also have what I think is called "week long memberships" where one flies 75 minutes in 7days for a very good rate and residents nights once a month for Florida residents where u can fly 5 minutes at a discount.. The coaches there can help a lot - even a whuffo like me.
12. I began flying in Orlando a little over a year ago and can't agree that they rip folks off. The experience is to die for to me. Being a whuffo and only having 2 hrs in the tunnel I never felt any coach was stalling my progress to get in my wallet. What may have happened is that you might have had a lesser experienced instructor that was not yet qualified to even spot sitfly or possibly, if u were very aggressive in saying you were gonna do this and that he may have felt u were challenging his authority and reacted to that. Instructors are mainly spotters until they become very experienced in flying all skills themselves and becoming rate3d as a coach and understanding how to spot all out of control situations and know where your body is heading in the tunnel well before the flyer does just by seeing one subtle but wrong move by the person who's safety they are Responsible for during every second of a flight session until you are safely out of the tunnel. Just curious - how many minutes did u fly at iFLY Orlando and did u get to demonstrate the skills someone else mentioned here that r required prior to sitfly so the instructor could see u knew your stuff? I have always had a good time there and never felt cheated - maybe give it another try with a different strategy on how to work with the instructor or maybe email or discuss the situation with the head coach there. Good Luck
13. Thanks for sending me to the i net for a definition of "syndicalism" Damn, I still can learn at 65+. :)
14. Wonder how long b4 tandems are available. I'd go for one tomorrow.
15. "...the fast ones will be the ones with poor body position." Don't quite understand "the fast ones" part. Is that referring to some type of suit material or student.?
16. Your little girl is doing great. One exercise among others that helped me with leg dropping was to stand in place, raise one leg up in front of me as high as possible and as the leg approaches the highest point raise up on the ball of the opposite foot. I was doing as many reps as comfortably possible with each leg. Takes some getting used to. The rising up on the other foot at the end of the high leg lift got me in the habit of straightening my leg when dropping the other one in the tunnel. Hopefully I made sense on that. Your daughter will probably be ready to instruct in about 10 hours at the rate she's going.
17. iFLY Orlando where I fly is 12 ft and many very experienced fliers as well as newer folks like me appreciate it greatly due to it's location and maybe the most affordable rates anywhere. The smaller diameter could lead to even more precise control of body position while flying although at first it won't be that perfect. :)
18. Possibly call your tunnel of choice as far in advance as possible and check on discount rates on flight times to see When they offer them (e.g. overnight camps, residents nights etc.) so that u might schedule your trip to take advantage of them. Whatever $$$$ u save can be applied to more minutes in the wind.:)
19. The best to you both. As I approached the 15 to 25 minutes in the tunnel the light bulb lit up on my belly flying and I got fairly stable which was very rewarding. Now if another light bulb could light up on my leg turns I would grin with glee. Enjoy that tunnel time.
20. Agreed - I hope those weird looking leg positions aren't as hard to get into as dropping a leg for a leg turn. :)
21. Good idea (skip it) but when I can't get something it makes me want it all the more. Of course on math test problems I remember the rule was if you can't do it move on to the next one. Hhhmmm Plus I thought one had to go step by step to train for tunnel flying. I have been on my back one session and liked it and will do more the next time. Thanks
22. Never thought of it but Bak 2 is probably a mistake on my part. A while back (bak) I started a thread titled "Is Too Much Arch a Problem" and personally derailed it into leg turns but actually that is what it was actually about since I was concerned that my arch was too much and interfering with leg turn skills learning process. Probably should have titled the 1st thread Leg Turn Problems or something similar. Oh Well
23. Ok - stacked up 2 of those cube style milk cartons up and laid on them. Worked better since I can drop the leg down instead of dragging it horizontally. Can't believe it but sure as shit I got confused again between the arm and leg moves. I wonder how many thousand times it will take before these absolutely counter intuitive (for me at least) moves are 2nd nature. This type exercise is also, as u said a good core workout plus lower back since most of me above the waist and below the hips is off of the milk crates. Really fun to try and maintain an arch. :)
24. I agree that I may be programming in some bad muscle memory but I am up for gambling with that to catch on to these turns quicker. Hoping like heck it works. I think my biggest problem is that when I try to drop the leg it bends but often blows out into the horizontal plane while maintaining the bend at the knee and I can't get it back down to the slightly outboard of vertical position where it should be - so I'm thinking when I have moved the leg up on the ground/bed and dig the knee into the floor or whatever to drag my body in the direction I should turn I will be developing more muscle strength in the pelvic area to hold the knee where I should in the tunnel OR the whole problem may be my brain talking to the muscles involved. I am also working the arms into the turning practice because I don't want to think about that a whole lot or at least a good bit less when trying these definetely COUNTRERINTUITIVE groups of simultaneous movements in a 120+ mph wind. Totally not sure if this will work but I so want to learn them so I can spin like hell in the tunnel.
