  1. New to this gophone payment type plan. Had been on it a while and went to make call and got told I didn't refiill my account. Didn't understand fully but I knew they wanted more money but didn't feel I had used 25 dollars worth of minutes. OBTW I have a 25 dollar (a month I assume) plan for 25 minutes a month. Eventually I called an 800 number where the recording said I must maintain a 25 dollar balance and my current balance was 18 dollars and change but I needed to pay either the difference between my current balance and 25 dollars or give them via credit card another 25 dollars. Tried to pay the difference but the ATT/gophone computer didn't recognize my passcode. Eventually I was able to pay 25 dollars and make calls. Basically I feel like they forced me to make the 25 dollar payment while still having 18 dollars of unused phone minutes in my account and am not happy but since I haven't been able to find any explanation of this payment system anywhere I'm not sure if I should even be upset. Here's my questions - 1 Does the gophone prepaid 25 dollar/250 minute payment essentially hold 25 dollars or close to that of a customer's money in escrow forever? 2 Can anyone provide a link to a detailed explanation of how this payment plan functions? Oh, almost forgot - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All Any help greatly appreciated. Frank
  2. Here's a vid of new flyers having fun in the Quantum's tunnel. At around 7 minutes in, it looks like the instructor has all the air anyone needs to go advanced in there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZdGYXDkhQ8 No doubt it has more power than I could deal with at my current stage of experience.
  3. Quantum's tunnel seems to have a good bit of power from this photo from iFLY Orlando's facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/iFLY-Orlando/113188922025352 I'm sure it would blow my lightweight derriere around more than I could handle only having about an hour of experience in a tunnel.
  4. Welcome from a whuffo. Practice flying in a wind tunnel in the mean time and u will know how to fly the 1st time out the plane's door - I think. Remember I'm a whuffo.
  5. I will tread lightly here since you're 7 jumps ahead of me but I have spent a little more than an hour in iFLY Orlando's wind. What councilman 24 said hit home with me - " Once you reach terminal velocity your 'floating' like in water. Any change is caused by a change in your body position." When I'm flying in the tunnel I love to de-arch and go up high but then get nervous/afraid (due to thinking of crashing to the bottom due to the view down from up high) momentarily until I reconsider the air I am feeling all over me as the cushion (a friend so to speak) that actually is protecting me - then I calm down arch and descend. I know the re-arching will cause me to descend at some rate but am ready for it so there is no surprise to cause fear when that happens like it did at first. So, maybe a relatively simple mind game like I play in the tunnel will help you way up high in the sky. Good Luck on this.
  6. Not an a/c engineer but was an airframe repair guy in USAF (cerca 1970's). Possible Improvements: 1 The inboard end of step could be tapered and extended farther up the a/c gear strut so as to blend in with it up to very near the fuselage just below the door and clamp it there. 2 Possibly a roller system below the step between it and the tire allowing the vertical leg of the step to be removed or shortened to facilitate natural movement of the a/c strut. Upon landing and strut deflection the roller could spin with the tire should they come in contact. Large caveat would be - Will there be enough clamp pressure to hold the step securely without it being tied in with the bolt thru the low end of the existing vertical leg. Possibly application of extreme high strength adhesive to faying surfaces of the clamped areas would help that situation.. 3 Would also consider rounding step plate edge to full 180 degree radius and sand and polish it down to very (glass smooth) with 220 or finer sandpaper. Just my whuffo 2 cents.
  7. I'm a whuufo but do love the tunnel. Learn the discount systems of the tunnel you're close to and possibly save a lot of money. When I began in the tunnel (age 65+) I noticed the shoulders took a beating at the 1st overnight camp and exercised to build them up. Made a world of difference at the second 30 minute overnite camp I attended to do 12- 2 1/2 minute flights with an hour break between the 6th and 7th flights. After 15 minutes in the tunnel my belly flying became relatively stable enough to move on to turns, ascent and descent - basically the light bulb went on - plus I had a great coach (Benji) at iFLY Orlando. First I would recommend exercises to somewhat build up the upper body (e.g. regular pushups and arms spread wide style 10-20 of each will have u ready) plus flexibility exercises to stretch shoulders, hip flexors (google for this) and back (cobra stance - yoga) so as to be able to arch well whether in the tunnel or actual freefall. Believe it or not arching involves all three areas (shoulders, backbone, and hip flexor muscles that run thru the hips.) Checking iFLY San Fransisco tutorials on indoor skydiving on youtube will help also - I know they helped me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjVKGF6Sc6c Oh, and like Skymama said the tunnel is as addictive as skydiving and I would add maybe more so but in a good way. Good Luck.
  8. The majority percentage to pass this amendment 1 in Florida I believe is 2/3 or 60% not perfectly sure which. Word has it that a recent poll reported 90% support it. Many many not so well informed folks in Fla but the campaign was very slick and smooth. The supporters don't feel a thing penetrating them YET.
  9. Sounds and feels good but is it really? At least one news source did some homework instead of reprinting proponent's propaganda for them. http://www.tampabay.com/opinion/editorials/times-recommends-vote-no-on-amendment-1-conservation-lands/2200609 Thanks again to whoever here educated me on how to do a live link. Please VOTE NO on Amendment 1 if you live in Florida - if not at least Vote.
  10. Got it - thanks much flyhi Would have thanked u sooner but was out tromping thru the Everglades.
  11. OK here I go - try #1 https://www.finertube.com/watch?v=lu3v2t9hUaU
  12. This video stood the hair up on me https://www.finertube.com/watch?v=lu3v2t9hUaU Ever since my 1st minute in the tunnel (actually before) I knew I would absolutely love the experience but wasn't prepared for how good it would really be and don't feel as though I've found the right words to describe the air rushing all over me yet but this vid has to get very close. So for some of us humans (the very lucky ones) whether in the tunnel or sky the perfection of "being there" is truly magical spiritual, heavenly and becomes a totally irresistible need. Maybe someone could explain how to make a link live? Anyway, Happy Viewing
  13. My shop is/was a small scale general fab shop - shear, punch, form, rollform ,weld, at first then branched out into brokering short run stampings. Semi retired from it now but still doing brokering since it is much less physically taxing. Now I'm a proud respectful whuffo but I do believe 15 minutes in the tunnel will help a lot to prevent picking up any bad free fall habits from day one. The tunnel magnifies body flight problems so you know what to correct so as to maintain basic bodyflight control better in the sky or tunnel.
  14. Can slow acceleration and deceleration of fans in this style system be sped up somehow to reduce the time it takes for fan speed changes between flyers that fly at mush different percentages of power.?
  15. Do be sure to investigate wind tunnels too. I've got a home based metal fab shop too - rare coincidence. I am a whuffo but did find tunnel flying at age 65+ and am eating all of it I can but it can bite back when gettin' ahead of ones self in learning how to fly like a bird. Have a ball and be real careful.
  16. Time will tell the tale on serious competition - probably quite a few years before the current flurry of tunnel building would cause negative side effects because of tunnel time pricing competition levels that drive prices flyers pay near to break even or below cost. That would seem great at first. BUT Negative side effects could (not for sure) be compromises in tunnel hardware or facilities maintenance and reduction of positive attitudes demonstrated by tunnel staff due to lower pay.
  17. Florida's loomin' to do it too. I don't know which state is worse but it's neck and neck between Fla and Calif.
  18. A serious as some (not all claimed catastrophic) environmental challenges are there may not be any truly good solutions out there. I read a report on some fish scientists report to a very large group of scientists regarding banning fishing in large ocean areas. The scientist went into detail explaining that when government restricts one form of protein (e.g. fish) all that does is shift the product used to say (beef) which may have environmental impacts to habitat and water that are far worse than reducing fish stocks. Basically there is no free ride and a perceived positive change in one area will cause a negative repercussion in another. So it seems that in the end one form of environmental impact or another has to happen in order for all of us to stay alive no matter what politically driven solutions but not really solutions are dreamed/scammed up. Like many if not all government decisions that are based in incomplete narrowly focused analysis - the only way to understand them is to follow the money. As far as bags in the Pacific go one PBS documentary on that showed there were many many more plastic items (toothbrushes, bic lighters - u name it) than bags out there. Will our brilliant government ban all plastics to really cure the problem even though fish already have plastic molecules in their dna or their flesh.
  19. Anyone ever just wipe spit on the inside to prevent fog? Used to do that to the face mask when scuba diving - worked fine.
  20. Does a rule such as this really guaranteed to reduce the carbon footprint - using paper and more permanent totes that require washing, electricity, soap etc. ????
  21. After 1 or 2 hours in the tunnel you may be allowed to fly with another person in a tunnel "at the same time" to further reduce the per minute cost. In skydiving I guess that would be called a 2 way. With only about an hour under my whuffo belt I haven't attempted it yet but maybe in the not to distant future. Be aware though of burble hopping as not understanding it can cause serious injury in a tunnel. Also be careful tunnel flying can be addictive. LOL
  22. Weren't the people that built iFLY Orlando the first to develop the idea/concept of indoor skydiving and offer the experience to the public? Subsequently they expanded into the Skyventure company? Relative noob here with ideas on how it all began but anticipate folks here can improve my understanding of the history of what I am "happily hooked" on now. Thanks in advance for additional info.
  23. I believe iFly Orlando (US - FL) – sffudapparel – Tyler Roemer (Instructor) has moved to Chicago area as of May or June 2014..
