  1. You pose serious questions. In the USA I think the legal profession always has many openings in the profession. They don't call us the most litigious place on earth for nothing. I'm sure Skyventure hires lawyers. From a mature perspective it's a no brainer - get your education, establish yourself in a career and then go fly all u want in the sky and tunnel. Another outlook could be to follow your dreams and passion especially while young which is also valid which means u email Skyventure or some other tunnel group today. Also remember you may get old some day so think about how to put money away for those days to supplement minimal government benefits and still be able to fly in the tunnel and sky.
  2. Maybe another thing tunnels could do is supply a flyer or publicly post a description of each tunnel's wind profile so that newer flyers better understand the tunnel they are in just in case they have not been educated about the idiosyncrasies of the tunnel they are going into which could be very different from their home tunnel. Due to this thread I went to the ISS site and at least learned something about "wind profiles".
  3. Pasted below is what I just got on a google search for Chuting Star Result was titled Chuting Star Deland: Sporting Goods Store Located in: DeLand Municipal Airport Address: 1405 Flight Line Blvd #19, DeLand, FL 32724 Phone:(386) 675-0874
  4. OR maybe hit the tunnel if possible. Hopefully the Mrs will recover quickly and fully.
  5. Agreed with horizontal speed accelleration can cause pain - Heard a big BANG in my helmet between 25-27 and 25-41 on this video of my newb training on bak2bellyroll https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv82u4HZ_ek&feature=youtu.be Kink in my neck for about a month from the wall bump. Also got a big surprise when shot up near the top last week during another mistake at around 18-30 to 18-55 on this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm_YIVndL6Y&feature=youtu.be Coaches in and out of the tunnel seemed happy I survived the unexpected ride up. HaHa The vertical rise shock caused some fear but luckily no pain - now if the power quit on me - who knows what would have happened to a newb like me with only 3 1/2 hours under the belt.
  6. From the ISS article it seems that power failure concerns could have been a large part the impetus for this safety policy. Are there any statistics out there as to power failure related injuries to bodyflyers over the years or the frequency of power failures in general at tunnels? I know it happens.
  7. Taxi fly seems a somewhat reasonable term to me (English 1st language) even though I never heard the term until this thread began. Think about it "a person wants a ride somewhere" they call for a taxi to take them there. To me new flyers agree to pay for a ride on high and instructors are their taxi to that part of the tunnel - otherwise they'd never get up there in the 1st - 2 minutes. Never heard the term yet at iFLY Orlando where iFLY. Newbies probably would never know to use it unless tunnels used it in advertising - so IMO if it hasn't started to be used somewhere it won't be unless an effort is exerted to cause it's use. I don't particularly love the term tunnel rat although I thought it was cute when I first heard it but with reflection I feel differently but will use it proudly anyway since it is part of the tunnel culture which I want to be a part of. Heck it has recently become a brand used to market many items.

  9. ??? My expressed goal may be years into future since I only fly about 2 hrs a year. So I won't be that animal very soon unless I find a sponsor for a 65+ yr old wannabe tunnel rat. :)
  10. Not disagreeing with this safety concept especially for beginners like me with only 3.5 hours in the tube but with a policy such as this (no exemptions for above the red line - Why build a tunnel higher than 8 m or 26 ft if nobody is supposed to use all of it? Heck one of my goals is to ascend very rapidly to the top on my back transitioning to head down during that process and dive vertically like a hawk and stop at the mat.
  11. Looks like some people are taking up the challenge to improve helmet audio capabilities http://indoorskydancing.com/blog.en/faq/safest-way-to-hear-music-but/ This is mainly about piping music to the helmet but possibly advances in that could also apply in some manner to 2-way helmet communications. Many smart folks here - easily enough to solve these type challenges if those that could contribute expertise chose to help.
  12. Do many or any tunnel's provide health insurance for employees - that could be a significant cost.
  13. No intent meant to hurt the business model. Seems to me marking a line would just hopefully solve the problem by letting flyers know to stay above the line. The idea maybe could help flyers not to waste valuable tunnel time by struggling in bad air if it is consistently located at a set altitude. iFLY at Orlando so does anyone know how these tunnels with misc. anomoly spots compare to it - favorably I hope. At some point we will be getting a new tunnel in Ft Lauderdale, Fl - hoping all the bugs are out by then. :)
  14. Maybe a line at dead air altitude painted around the tunnel?
  15. Just noticed there is no flag on the - "INDOOR" button's - map page for iFLY Orlando. iFly Orlando is listed on a list below map. Seems like such a well established and historically significant tunnel would have a flag indicating that it exists, should a newbie look at the map to find one to fly in.
  16. One stop shopping and the best vid I've seen of the musical fereestyle including all competitors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5Hnrkz7H7k it's derived from the live feed so it contains excited commentators remarks.
  17. Don't forget to notice - tunnel flying is just Flat Out Fun also - and the sense of accomplishment when "the light bulb goes on" in the learning process ain't bad either. Watch out - the tunnel not only blows u around but it also sucks you in. :) :) Have Fun
  18. Correction - Olga did fine getting 2nd place - that's fair - I mistakenly thought the results page had her in 4th place. All in all a great competition with all great flyers. All that is left is to get music into the musical freefly videos. :)
  19. Agreed w/Leo's 1st place he was awesome but Olga deserved a higher finish than she got - but I am not a judge so I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles. I cannot believe that the musical freestyle videos are silent - that completely removes the awesomness of the discipline. W/O music totally lacking the music's impact. Any chance Windoor can add music in the future? They did get videos up very quickly - a good thing - hoping the music goes in at some point.
  20. Freestyle tunnel flying competition will never be the same after the musical routines at Windoor 2016. They must bee seen to believe how moving they are and what an emotional response they can invoke. Olga Bakulina's flight was one to remember - WOW - no telling where this event will go in the future. Leo and Maja's were fantastic also but Olga's - OMG.
  21. Totally agree with Mr Framel's statement " This is more like a sport than a ride,” he said. Flying isn't inexpensive but that could entice kids to do good in school so they can afford it possibly later in life after their 1st few introductory experiences "interacting" with that dry invisible upward bound waterfall of air.
  22. Now here's some good music - especially at 3:37 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxSkom7uC2A Hey I ain't the one who brought up music. :)
  23. What type/brand did you wear (diablopilot) -if u can say. I would really appreciate and value your opinion since you are a tunnel instructor.. I have researched the brands mentioned here and G form look good albeit not cheap (knee/elbow) while the other McDavid hex knee seem to have a problem with hex pads coming loose if used on a floor type sport - possibly not a problem in a tunnel scenario.
