  1. there was an effort for this a decade ago - surprisingly, it was labelled horribly racist and insensitive go figure ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  2. Not sure yet how I feel about this. Would like to know a bit more information, like if simply waiting was an option. Seems a bit like an execution....or drone strike. It was a good kill... why do they need to wait for anything. The shooter didn't wait to see if he had any feelings about shooting the police officers. I love the form of justice used by the Dallas police officers. it's not "justice" - it's escalation of force to stop a threat. They had to go this route after lesser options (which they tried) failed (including negotiation, waiting, finally a gun fight, etc etc) cops don't give justice - that's the courts' job I don't love it or hate, I just found it necessary to stop the killer. no more, no less I'm amazed had how the average person can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that Justice does NOT equal vengence. It's sad, and scary. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

  7. I wish I could also comment on the rest of your post. It's very decent. I would not just quote 'small and rural'. I'd also suggest that guns are typical very 'normal' and people tend to learn early about responsible gun ownership (in a non-violent culture, the tools in the culture tend to be used in the non-violent way - amazing how that works). The culture that this is based in correlates to a more general low rate of violent crimes. We really do need to focus on training and culture and not knee jerk to just 'the big bad gun'. Even the "just enforce the laws on the books" is really just more of the same - Culture, comfort, training - the problem is very fundamental, very basic - bandaids won't fix it. ... 8. I understand your point, but my point is just more general than that what I see - both are willing to sacrifice civil rights, individual freedoms, and more, simply as a knee jerk reaction for only an illusion of safety a 'watch' list.....means there isn't any evidence of any wrongdoing. That's why you 'watch' them instead of arrest them - citizen or visitor, if you are suspicious, watching is cautious and smart. Taking unjustified actions is a basic violation - whether it's travel, property ownership, etc. I don't like your internet activity (voting record, the color of your skin, whatever) - let's put you on a list and watch you....... What the hell - let's take away your rights just a little bit, and only for cosmetic reasons - it's election year...... what the hell - let's lock you up in a camp........ the whole argument "If they can't fly, then they shouldn't also get guns......" is really deceptive. It completely hides the fact that they are on a 'no fly list' defined by the fact that they aren't guilty (yet) of anything, just suspicious, or even just some unknown bureaucrat doesn't like them much. yet these same people demand 100% proof of guilt for any conviction and scream civil rights violations, but here, you can be on a list based just on making some observer uncomfortable. I really look forward to either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump being able to arbitrarily put people on a "no civil rights" list that they can control. ... 9. ^^^^ this I can admire a guy that has made his choice, but doesn't just blindly support the entire party line. We have enough sycophants. The rest of the right and the entire left could do with more of this. The fact that he is talking to specific issues instead of just fanatically playing D vs R is heartening. ... 10. recognize: 1 - The 'no fly - no buy' crowd are advocating for a subjective removal of people's rights (travel, and property ownership). Impacting mostly brown skinned people and visitors from other countries 2 - Trump wants to restrict travel and immigration based on nothing but subjective critieria. Impacting mostly brown skinned people and visitors from other countries and these people THINK they are on opposite sides - bah, they are just fighting over who's right they want to trample on and how. Most of the time they want to trample the same rights and are just arguing over how to spin it Politics is a freaking tragedy and comedy all at the same time. ... 12. http://www.billofrights.org/ they felt they needed to bundle up everything that pertains to our ability to keep the government from abusing their power and state it clearly since these are things that governments always use to take power away from the people prior to becoming despotic. as for the 2nd - IMO - this means a couple things 1 - training requirements? licensing to purchase? this falls under private property and ownership, not the 2nd. (IMO hunting is not a 2nd amendment argument either) as such it seems just fine and that can be regulated. However, the line is crossed, when it becomes used as leverage to deny people the ability to own guns (i.e., the periodicity of retrain or the cost is just out of line, requiring separate training for each gun rather than overall, not allowing current knowledge to be sufficient - such as just a questionaire vs forcing a classroom). Like cars - the license to DRIVE is appropriate. So a license to BUY is not an issue - as long as it's not ratcheted up to where only the connected and wealthy can pass the 'test'. 2 - 2nd amendment - UNLIKE cars, the government should not know how many guns I own. period. If they have a count, they can confiscate. If I have a license to buy, they still don't know if I own zero guns, or a thousand. So registration crosses the line. I don't believe they want to take the guns, but that doesn't matter, they can't be allowed the 'ability' to confiscate. However - I'm not required to take a test for my right to speak, or my right to due process, etc etc etc.......so it's still not fair even then. Training etc - could be done in high school BTW - for those not already proficient in responsible gun ownership by their families. ... 13. this one sucks making the arrest? yes, escalate effort until the criminal is cuffed and under control but once they are under control? then they are in the cops care and anything that happens after that point is the direct responsibility of the people holding them (it doesn't matter how big an asshole Gray was, how bad a crime, how badly he's thrashing, etc etc etc - he's now helpless and in their care) his neck broke after he was under their control - pure negligence at the best. murder at worst ... 17. I recall that - and I've moved too, he's cross the boundary and I don't think he can do anything for me to even pretend he's worth listening to. The point that his rhetoric is attracting the worst of the worst - I agree there too. Sucks, the idea of an outsider was the best thing ever - but it matters WHO the outsider is. As for people feeling powerful. He'll say anything to 'win' whatever moment he imagines himself in, but there are so many people that actually take it seriously enough that physical attacks are happening (bigots feeling empowered, or protesters getting violent, now a kid who felt driven to assassination, he brings out the worst in both camps). I'd rather not have any of them feel powerful about their shit either. ... 18. right on target that you consider 'everyone' to be just two positions - not three or four or even individual. you might just not be wired to understand I would, the meanness in this forum is epic and I react to that regardless of where it comes from. always have. the hope is people try to be more like Wendy, but they are just getting more and more Funjumper-like but hey, if you want, I'll stop responding and you can claim you won the internet - if that's all you have and what you desire and it makes your life better ... 19. I was being honest, and reality is not an insult. You spend half your time holding yourself up as the only guy in SC who can see both sides of a story and bemoaning the fact that everyone else can only see things in black and white, and the other half making posts like the above, painting all liberals and Hillary supporters with the broadist of brushes as complete absolutists. To be honest, severe oxygen deprivation would explain why you're unable to see it. bull - your only reason here is to hump people's knee's and troll out insults I'll broadbrush the true-believers on both sides all the time. You just don't see it when it's against the wacky right because you believe in THOSE caricatures. You cry when it's anything else because you are outraged that people might have opinions you don't approve. get over it. I'm not even sure if you are just blinded by a false impression that you think you're the smartest guy in the room, or if you're just some crotchety old guy playing troll. It's an election year and people are moving strongly to mean spiritedness here, but for you, it's your normal SOP - you must be the happiest guy on the internet right now. It's amusing most of the time, but your prejudices are really over the top. ... 21. I'd be thrilled if both parties would hijack the system and offer two different people. Then both parties implode and we get a different set of choices next time. If only one party did it, I think it would be a high chance they'd win the election and disband the party - that's a win/win in my book regardless of who does it. ... 24. ^^ this - you realize that's not good enough for dems on this site - you also realize that it caused him physical pain to type "hold your nose" because Hillary is a democrat and 'her' people truly do believe she's perfect and all the evidence against her is made up thus 'hold you nose' is just a fib to make the choice seem more palatable to the dumb people that disagree with them expressing a distaste for Hillary in front of many is considered the equivalent of full bore Trump support and the associated labeling and name calling and social pressures ensue - despite expressing a deeper and more profound distaste for Donald within the same breath - they are physically INCAPABLE of understanding that people despise both for many many reasons ...
