  1. If a 'watch' list results in denying travel, not letting people buy stuff, etc, how is that 'watching' however, the Donald is also (has been quite a bit) making noises about denying due process also - so if he's the new face of the Reps, then we have a much simpler way to choose political parties just decide which rights and which demographics you want to deny due process to other people - then pick the party that matches your desire - at least it's now simple ... 2. seriously, the absolute level of irony in this post made me snort so loud that people are asking me at work if I'm choking c'mon - you HAVE to have been trying to help Wendy make her point. 4. I agree, but it's a valid counter argument to the NRA position that having more CCW holders and no "gun free zones" would prevent mass shootings. You (general you, not you personally) can't have it both ways. I agree. The point shouldn't be the mass shootings would be prevented. The point should simply be that individuals should have the option to choose to protect themselves. If that stops some instances or mitigates the horrible damage,..... (Not even a 2nd amendment argument really, much more basic). ... 5. this was brought up on radio quite a bit - people comment that they are not deputized, and under no obligation to try and be a hero. they just want to be safer and would likely try to get out quietly just like everyone else. not many people want to be some kind of hero - it's a crappy tactic to challenge "hey, why didn't the CCW holders save the day?" the answer might just be because the CCW is being responsible and not firing unnecessarily - so you can't win, don't shoot? you're a coward, shoot? you must be irresponsible and starting a crossfire bloodbath hey, why didn't all the anti-gun types dive on the gunman and save the day - they must be cowards ... 8. I left two conversations at what I thought was that point. In each, you magically appeared to take up the baton. I don't particularly want it back. Good discussions regardless. We have the best debators, here. The best. Lots of winning going on. I wouldn't say this forum is "Exceptional" - that comes across snotty, but I will just let the forum speak for itself so others can just view, and bask, in the exceptionalism. 10. it's just plain laziness - either people are individuals and their history and actions speak for themselves, or you just make assumptions and live on stereotypes his actions and content of character will demonstrate your so called 'correlation' or not - if not, then you merely insulted the person's professionalism based on some race based stereotype - just like Trump your choice - profiling ('hey, they're all the same, right?') my choice - evidence clearly you think this is some kind of outrage instead of treating people fairly, your call ... 11. this kind of rationalization seems to be lots of fancy words that pretty much come down to: it's ok to be racist whenever I think it's ok. and it's not whenever I think it's not ok. Understanding "culture" isn't race based, it's training and experience based and needs to be underpinned by actions. If one makes an assumption that culture is solely skin color, then, sorry, you are just using "culture" as a buzz work for pigment. The difference is this: "we don't like this judge because in the past he has demonstrated the following behavior" (good argument, justifiable) vs "we don't like this judge because he is (race) and therefore can't be objective" (racist) AGREE I don't see any disagreement except for the sycophants. If the judge has any history of actual racial bias, then that evidence should have been put forth and request for change of venue made. Anything coming out after the fact is in question unless it's iron clad. Nothing compelling is out - semantics games about the name of an association he belongs to is pure apologetics. Painfully weak. Instead, he, off the cuff, makes a blanket statement that assumes the judge is biased without supporting evidence is absolutely wrong. He really screwed up and deserves the name calling and consequences. ... 12. One can hope. One can hope they break ranks, put up someone else. Then between now and next time the whole party dissolves and becomes something more Libertarian. Just get rid of the theological/social branch completely. .......one can hope I wish for a campaign that talks about the correct balance of social philosophy vs individualism/freedom and then we all get to decide..... Not a campaign about opportunism vs narcissism - either way will come in and do terrible things and pretend it's anything remotely like a real political philosophy discussion ... 15. Not necessarily. You've created a false equivalence. And apparently don't know what hypocrite means. I want to get this straight, so it's ok to judge one 'type' of person solely by his race but not his actions. It's absolutely not ok to do the same if it's a different race. Because of your personal opinions of how a person acts based solely on his race. Or to a less dramatic degree - at least you aren't bothered as much by one scenario over the other, again, based on your preconceived notions of how people act (defined solely by their race, but not their actions). How Trumplike of you. Nicely played. Edit: One thing that is good about this election cycle, it is truly bringing out those from the very edges on both sides that are more alike than different. And we even see Kallend agreeing with Paul Ryan on something (sure it's truth, but still). ... 17. Absolutely If one 'claims' to be an individualist, and it bothers you when special interest groups make racist claims that a white male can't be unbiased as a judge, cop, or investigator. Then they HAVE to be just as upset a Trump's statement. Vice versa for you lefty activists. either way, if you aren't bothered by both scenarios, you are a hypocrit people need to be judged by their real life work performance - not by where their grandparents lived, or what tones of makeup would work best on their cheekbones. ... 22. So your statement is true now, but could change in the not-so-distant future. depends on what you consider "Grossly outnumbers" i think your table clearly shows the statement is false - even, that in a LOT of nations, it's very likely that atheism is likely a plurality draw your line anywhere you like, but 1 in 4 is not 'grossly outnumbered' (or 60/40) - especially if you group everyone else into the 'other' category, which is disingenuous also.....it's not like the Buddists and the Muslims and the Christians and the Hindus are all getting together and plotting against those darn atheists and agnostics - they tend to fight each other (after they are done fighting themselves...) shit, in some elections, 40% is considered a "mandate of the people" at times ... 23. Sure, but what does that have to do with the stigma attached to atheism? I don't follow you. I don't see a stigma - so I'm probably responding to a different basis of discussion than you intended. consider this a tangent then. I like your responses to the last couple bits. I agree. But I do think that societal change has to happen naturally, and unnatural forcing of anything (I'm move to more general philosophy here) usually makes things dramatically worse...... ... But I don't much care what someone else believes ( or considers that not choosing is a viable passive position based or not based on a non-underpinning of various levels of reason, or not, whatever) as long as they aren't assholes about it. though I do like to discuss the topic, I think it's interesting and gives insight to human nature. ... 25. Yes, and it's probably inevitable that it go this way. I guess the 'crappy downturn' was the point that people keep poking at them even though they aren't offering argument at this point, just a difference of opinion. I'm forced to consider that many people aren't able to live and let live. But the very fact that people have personal beliefs that differ is offensive to others just on that basis alone. ...
