  4. A lot of the issues brought up are the typical greek stereotypes I was talking about. Agreed, it is like this at a lot of big schools; I won't deny that. But, you can't place the judgement on the entire greek system like that. My sosority initiated ALL types of girls. Sure, we had standars, but usually if you didn't get a bid it's because you're bad news on campus, IE: you get drunk and naked at parties, you become the campus slut in one week after moving in as a freshmen, etc. Like I said, I probably wouldn't have joined the greek system if I had been at a big ten school or something, but these girls were down to earth and very chill. We weren't the cheerleaders, we weren't the preps, we weren't the rich little girls (especially myself!). We were the geeks, just like everybody else at my school (tech school). We were fat, skinny, blonde, red, brown. There was no physical standard for us, which is why I loved it. Our standards were academics, self integrity, and womanhood. As for buying friends? Yea, I can see why some people think that, but actually there is so much more that goes for those dues than just "buying friends". A lot of our dues went to keep our chapter house; where I was offered a place to stay when I had nowhere else to go (and no money at one point, so thank god for the roof they gave me for a month!), and a good chunk of money goes to help our number one fundraiser of womens cardiac care and research. I'm also offered emergency funds from our international-- IE, when the hurricane destroyed a few sisters homes in 2004, they got a check sent to them by Alpha Phi international. There is so much more that the money goes for than what people assume. I'm attaching a picture of my sorority, and let me know if we look like your typical sorority chicks; take a look and see how different your assumptions can become. 5. I'm a full time Aviation Meteorology student; as for work outside of school-- Job 0: Senior year/ 17 credit hours of hard ass classes. Job 1: computer lab assistant on campus. Job 2: Waitress/Bartender at a local resturaunt. Job 3: Aviation Meteorology Internship doing forecasts for United Airlines international routes. Needless to say... I don't have a life and can't skydive that often. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  6. Sorority/Fraternitiy system is pretty big in the US. It's basically a social organization in college. I forget how many Fraternaties and Sororities exist right now, but it's a lot and each of them have x-amount of chapters through the US and Canada. So, that organization has groups at many different schools (these are chapters) united under the same greek name. (IE, Alpha Phi). People can choose to join or not be involved in the greek system at all while going through college. I honestly never saw myself going greek because of all the stereotypes, but when I got to a tech school that was 75% male, it was nice to get involved with a group of girls and have some chicks to talk to when your entire collegiate universe was mostly guys. Everybody has different reasons for joining, though. Hope this helps!
  7. Hahaha.... I was a PIKE (Pi Kappa Alpha) little sister. But it def. isn't the same little sister on my campus as little sisters on other campuses. There was no formal intiation of little sisters into the fraternity anymore, but it was still a nick name for the girls who hung out with them for all four years and/or dated a brother for a long time. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  8. I can never come up with anything to post, but I was actually wondering today how many skydivers were/are in a sorority or fraternity when they were/are in college. If so, which one, which chapter, and which school? As for me... Alpha Phi, Theta Zeta chapter. Florida Institute of Technology. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  9. ; 2 ; 1 Beef for my first jump from a heli .... man, that thing was wicked cool!!!
  10. I always wondered the same thing-- and I too thought it was the owner's photo's. Haha... I know that the Ruby Tuesdays near skydive sebastian actually has some skydive sebastian stuff up. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  11. I love going to this local Mediteranean place-- you can rent hookah's for 10 bucks an hour. Gotta have the double apple though! EDIT: to add photo Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  12. Mushy peas are the shit! It's what I miss most from a good chippie when I spent a summer in England. I get them in cans now from an english goods store here locally in the states-- but def. not as good. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  13. SLEDGE HAMMER!!! Need I say more?? (I'm sure Matt is cringing right now!) Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  14. What cracks me up is half of the guys in this forum who have a problem with gay sex is really saying that they have a problem with guys having sex with guys-- becuase 9 times out of 10 they think it's fine and dandy if two chicks have sex wtih each other-- especially if it's in front of them or on tape! Or, like you mentioned, in a three way with them. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  15. So now just gay and lesbians practice S&M???? I know more straight friends who do it than my gay friends!! Gay and straight people alike are all sexually driven. It's our human nature. Gay and lesbians love just like straight people love. they have sex just like straight couples have sex. they make love just like straight people make love. .....and, to put it bluntly, they will do kinky shit just like straight people do kinky shit. When it comes down to it, we're all driven in the same way. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  16. I agree.... life's not fair. And I also agree that kids are there to learn about reading, writing, math, literature, and the like. We learn so much more as we grow up through school; much more than what can be taught out of books. It's where we also shape some of our characters. It's where we learn to be human beings and respect one another. It's where we learn-- period. This issue wasn't taking away any learning. You're cloaking the argument. This wasn't about cancleing classes to have a gay pride day. They will be reading, writing, and doing caclulations just as much as they were before this was even mentioned on the school calendar. They will be "getting the skills to support themselves" still, except for the calendar sitting at home on the fridge as an extra sentence on it to note something for the month of October. How does that take away from learning in the classroom? Hell, I remember when I was in high scohol I never even looked at the damn calendar. Trust me, seeing "gay awareness month" on the school calendar wouldn't have blown my grade in calculus! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  17. I agree.... no matter what side you're on it's going to go with the idea that you're taking up one opinion and not looking at the other side. Let's put it this way then.... maybe nobody is wrong, but doesn't everybody deserve a fair shot either way? I just want everything equal for everybody. It's the best part of our country and hurts me to see when things aren't fair for all. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  18. wow.....you're exactly the narrow-minded, naive, ignoramous that I refer to. Thanks for proving my point! Cheers! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  19. This crawls underneath my skin so bad. I'm originally from the Philly area-- I can expect something like this from some place in the bible belt, but this is Philly we're talking about. A very cultured area where I like to believe more people think out of the box; but then again maybe not when I hear something like this. These people who don't want this on their calendars-- do they complain about black history month? Chanukah? Christimas or Easter?? Of course not!! If this is too much to note on a calendar, then off comes every other months celebrations as well to be fair. There goes black history month, breast cancer awareness month, etc. I'm going to take this off topic a little bit and rant because this issue really pisses me off. I'm not gay, or bi, but I have a good amount of friends who are. I think they deserve the same respect we do. I think I deserve to stand at my friends side and watch him/her get married and have simple freedoms that I have as a straight person. I think they deserve to have some sort of observance on a calendar just like every other diversified group does. Do you know why I think all of this is a major issue between people? Man's stupid religion and our current government. If two gay people can't get married then how come two black people can or two Jewish, German, pink skinned, green skinned can?? It sickens me how unjust everything is for them. Look at all the simple things we enjoy as straight people; the simple freedoms. We're talking about words on a friggen calendar here and we can't even give the gay community that. Well damn, the way this country has been going, (oh, let's say the past 5 years) I'm suprised we even let gay people vote! I hate to make assumptions, but how much you want to bet that these peole who complained about this calendar are the most narrow minded, naive, church sheltered, lady or gentleman who knows nothing except for what they have been taught to believe. Guess what, we were taught to believe at one point that african americans where put on this earth to be our slaves. We've changed our views and actions as a society concerning their equality; we've come a long ways from opressing people as slaves. Why is it so different wtih the gay and lesbian community? I think it's a good start to do something as little as observing the culture on the calendar along with everybody elses. It's nothing bad that the school could open your children up to. Maybe these people should step out of the box and take a look to see that they're the ones teaching their children bad values. They're helping the next generation to be as biggoted and ignorant as they are. I'm going to stop myself there even though I want to write a book on this. I've already gotten off topic enough. Sorry for the rant, but I just had a recent conversation with friends about this and figured I would spit it all out. I've thrown around a few assumptions, which is probably unfair and is not concrete for the argument, but felt opinionated today I guess. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  20. actually, I have! Back in Philly when the circus came to town-- they would have elephant rides before the circus. I was really little and hardly remember it. I don't know how often they do it now since elephants have gone nuts and hurt/killed the riders. It was cool though.
  21. Well, my mother bought me my first skydive on my 18th birthday. But even better was a gift I just got last week or my 23rd. It's the only gift I've ever gotten in recent years that really made me feel like somebody cared. My boyfriend planned this week long vacation in the N. Carolina mountains back in August. Lots of hiking, waterfalls, and beautiful things to see. The whole time we were there he had his video camera out-- which made me do a "WTF, why don't you just put that away and enjoy the scenery!?" To make a long story short-- the whole time he had been shooting video to take home and edit for a movie that highlighted our trip. And it got better-- he recorded my favorite song that he sings and plays on his guitar and edited the movie to that track!! It was one of the more thoughtful things anybody has ever done for me-- especially for my birthday! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  22. there's some good independent theatres and stuff there. There's a lot of little clubs where some good shows are. I live over in Melbourne on the coast (about an hour 15mins away)-- drive over 528 and come out here for a day at the beach! It's gorgeous!! Hope you can find something to do. American Tea

thats why I go to the local UK goods store here (and funny thing is I just walked in the door from taking a trip in town there) and get a nice box of yorkshire or twinings.... I do miss the tea, but while I was there over last summer I really missed a good cup of coffee with actual creamer in it. It's a trade off! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
