  1. Had a couple of 'em come to the door several years ago and when they saw my mean ole husband and our 5 Doberman Pinchers they couldn't leave fast enough and haven't been back! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  2. Well don't read the newspaper or watch the news then...if you were to see how many vehicle fatalities there were last year, you wouldn't want to ever drive again! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  3. Thanks quade, appreciate your opinion and making the link clicky. Obviously I know very little about video equipment. It was an e-mail offer sent to me and I was curious as to whether the camera could be used for skydiving. _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  4. Anyone have any experience with one of these? http://store.worldwidegadgets.com/index2.html Your opinions please.
  5. We went the used route. My rig had less than 50 jumps on it... $1200 for a '97 Dolphin container, Triathlon 7-cell main, Tempo reserve, collapsable slider & pilot chute and $800 for the Vigil AAD. I love it! It fits sooo much better than student gear. My husband's rig had about 150 jumps on it...$2000 for a '96 Dolphin container, Rascal 9-cell, Raven 7 reserve and $1225 for a brand new Cypres2 . IF and when we order NEW rigs we will have a better idea of what we really want...
  6. Hey Girl, I 'm not sure what you consider "middle-aged" but, I started static-line training at 49...I hate heights, am terrified of falling, have "bad" knees and sinus problems...I fell 53 feet out of a tree when I was 10 and I still shake when I climb on a ladder. Climbing out of a plane at 10,000 feet doesn't bother me anymore! The worst part was when the door first comes open...it took me about 10 jumps to get over that. Now I can't wait to get out of the plane...I just turned 52 and I love this shit! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  7. Actually, cigarettes and alcohol ARE drugs...they're just "legal drugs" and legal only because the government can charge tax on them! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  8. Lots of people automatically think if you skydive and have an injury that you got it jumping... I showed up at the DZ in April with a badly sprained left ankle and twisted right knee that I got while carrying an old TV out to the trash...I misjudged the front step and BAM! Had to wear a sign on my shirt for a couple of weeks saying that it was NOT a skydiving injury 'cause I got sick of everybody assuming it was! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  9. I had leg bruises on almost EVERY jump while wearing student gear...I'm a 5'7" and 150 lb female...jump 11 was a swacker and the resulting bruise on one leg started at the crotch and stopped about 1" above my knee and went ALL the way around my thigh...I didn't jump for 2 months because of it...and I was seriously thinking I might have to quit jumping...by jump 13, I was using my own gear and almost 40 jumps later still haven't had any leg strap bruises...Hmmmm, I wonder if it was the gear? Hang in there...it just gets better! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  10. Skydive Skyranch is where my husband & I received our excellent S/L training over 2 years ago...we don't want to jump ANYWHERE else...everything Danno said is true. Our DZO Wolf is multi-talented and watches over all his children...we ALL have the best time even when we're not jumping...we love our new family...and our new jump pilot Brad, ROCKS! By the way Dan, your pie is waiting...and so are we!! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  11. 13th jump was on a used rig (150 jumps) which my husband and I bought to share . Student gear put so many bruises on me that my own mother didn't recognize me. We wanted consistency and a better fitting rig that was ready to jump when we wanted to...also cheaper than renting 2 rigs. Found a GREAT deal on another rig just for me by jump#23. _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  12. Personally, about 40-50 feet up on final, I "look" at about 45 degrees down in front of me first, (to see any obstacles I might be ready to hit) THEN use a "scanning" look from left to right and back again (which also makes it easier to see any incoming traffic be it on foot or in the air) You should be able to gauge your height, then do a smooth, steady flare...and most important...GET SOMEONE TO VIDEO TAPE YOUR LANDINGS!!
  13. Lambic Frambois? I want to come jump with you guys...Awesome beer! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
  14. Hi Layton, Like it or not every 120 days, we have enough trouble keeping pilots. My rig is in for re-pack right now and it cost me a 200 mile round trip but I'm having my VIGIL changed out also and will be jumping this weekend weather permitting
