If we choose poorly, if we eat all the wrong foods, we gain weight and our health suffers. Some people may need help being educated in how to eat healthier. But no amount of Big Government programs will make people eat healthy. If someone wants to eat better and live a healthier life, they must be proactive. But I did work as a volunteer ski patroller (as well as worked one year as a pro patroller) in the late 80s early 90s at Lake Louise and got a rather close in your face view of skiing accidents. I was taught to "PROVE" that the firearm was safe to handle by: Point the firearm in the safest direction. Remove all ammunition. Observe the chamber. Verify the feeding path. Examine the bore for obstructions. Once this is done, the firearm is no more dangerous than any other inanimate object.
