You've been a skydiver for a while if...

Recommended Posts

- you jumped with a blast handle and thought they looked cool
- accuracy was done downwind
- CRW was done with rounds, and rounds and squares, and paradactyls (sp?) and whatever
- CRW - it was too "scary" to slide down the lines cause you could get tangled but climbing inside the center cell of the canopy you docked on was OK
- your piggyback rig had a frap strap instead of a bag
- "Masters of the Sky" was a current movie, on 16 mm film
- the boogie of the year was the Z-Hills Turkey Boogie
- you could run to the Loadstar while it was on the taxi way, carrying your rig, jump in and sit with your legs hanging out the door on take-off
- "low pull" Charlie Case was still around
Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.

Hey!! since I've still got a year and a half to go to to be eligibel for SOS, I'm hoping I've got a few years of jumping coming my way. :)

Stay safe, keep your head on a swivel , you'll be fine.

I do that. And I land in nice big student areas generally away from where others are landing if I can. I figure the exercise from walking in is good for me and I want to be able to say that I "have been a skydiver for quite a while" one of these days.

If ya know what a tricon is and jumped one for a main and a reserve.
If ya recognize what rings and ropes are.

If you're aware there was a mark 1 and a mark 2 pc

When you have made streamers (wind drift indicators) on the kitchen table with copper rods, crepe paper and Elmer's glue.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Went to paper drinking straws filled with sand because the copper rods tended to gum up farmer McNasty's combine

We used wire hangers. We figured eventually they'd be biodegradable.

If you remember stowing your crown lines. And you know what center lines are.

Shaking your head and muttering "Sweet Jesus, you've got to be kidding me", the first time you saw a "hand deployed pilot chute".

And while we're on the subject, you know what a "Jesus string" is.

Wondering what that small bit of fabric was on top of somebody's risers (square canopies only). It takes the place of ropes & rings ? And it's called a "slider" ?

Trying to figure out where you stuck your thumbs the first time you ever saw a 3-ring (I'm not making this up).

Getting chewed out for pulling high, at 3 grand.

Looking at ads for $220 Mini Systems, $360 PC's, $595 Clouds, $260 reserves, and thinking, "I'll NEVER be able to afford this sport..."

Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Oh, H*** yes. Ours were always a buck each in the pot and 'one tie all tie' which meant another buck in the pot and another round if two or more guys got the disc. B|

It was all part of the jump life in you lived in the PacNW with our low ceilings. [:/]

JerryBaumchen

PS) Tbrown: I loved that one about where to put your thumb in the 3-ring.

PRICELESS

I just about pissed myself reading through this thread:)And then realized I must be getting old cause I've seen or been through most of this:o

One to add is knowing the difference in packing a Sled with ropes and rings for sub terminal vs terminal

"uncover - thumbs in rings- snap-cover-pull -punch" to release the capewells and get out an unmodified, surplus reserve with 4 line release from a belly wart

-piggybacks

-upgrading to a mini-system with PC and flatpack reserve

-5 cell Strato Stars were hot

-Freak Brothers Conventions!

-Balloon suits

-switching from belly bands, and making sure they weren't twisted, to pilot chutes on leg straps
