Hawaii!!

Recommended Posts

Anybody ever jump in Hawaii at North Shore? It was a blast and I was just curious to see if anybody else has been that way.

Also, anybody know what kind of plane this is? I'm new to the sport :)

Were you doing a tandem there or solo jump? I hear it's a tight DZ. :)

I simply did a tandem jump there, but I had such a good experience with the people and the location that I think about it still.

Maybe some of you guys will recognize the instructors...?

You must have at least a B license to jump there.
Not so much a tight landing area, but no outs and winds that will likely be unfamiliar.

Wow, I had no idea that it required a B-license. I could definitely understand about the winds though, considering it is RIGHT next to the ocean.

Mountains, powerlines, trade winds, tall trees, o my!
The ocean is the least of your worries.
Trades combined with obstacles and few outs is the bigger concern, IMO.
People come to Hawaii where it's common to jump in winds that would ground most low-timers.
If you learn in Hawaii, you can jump pretty much anywhere.

Apparently you can't learn in Hawaii anyways if you don't have a B-license ;)

You can always do AFF there. I did (started there)

That's awesome! I'm in the Navy and I have really thought about getting a rig and just jumping at whatever places I travel to overseas.

Hmmm...this doesn't sound correct. You can jump there with an A license. If the winds shift and they use their alternate landing area, which is at the other end of the field, they limit that to B and above. I've only been there a few times but that's what I remember.
Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.

How long ago were you there? How about you pick up the phone and ask Blossom, Don, Marli, Mary, or Beth at manifest? There is a sign in front of the packing area, and manifest will tell you this too. Pacific may have different rules, I don't know (only tried to jump there once). I might even have a photo of the sign from last month.
I'm there fairly often.
