Front Flip

Recommended Posts

Yea this is part of AFF, but maybe this guy went through some other program... *shrug*. Never the less they are pretty easy. Just do what you would do any other time you wanna do a front flip... bring your arms into your chest and tuck in towards your stomach. Once you see green again bring your arms back out. I'm sure there are much more efficient ways of flipping, but hey this works. The best way to get it down would be to get a coached jump and have the instructor help you out with it.

Anyway, what you are really doing is just causing an imbalance. You drastically reduce the resistance to the wind on your upper body, so at that point you don't have a choice but to flip forward. Same goes for barrel rolls, take away resistance on one side of your body by pulling an arm all the way into your chest and ur gonna roll.

Its all about balance. :)

Hi, when I did my front flip, my instructor explained it like doing a front flip under water. . .tuck chin into chest, lean forward and roll over. . .it works pretty easily. . .

I thought it was so much fun in Eloy to learn my front and back flips because the JM said "let's play follow the leader"...he did a front flip, then I did..*smile*..then he did a back flip, then I did..*smile*...he did a barrel roll, then I did *smile*..the pressure was off...it was so much fun to "play" in the adult playground in the sky! YAY!B| Even though I'm dorking around with sitfly now, I still LOVE to do my flips! and roll on my back to watch the plane fly away and others freeflying above me and track on my back!, then get "stable" on my belly and pull! YAY!B|

"This may be a dumb question"....

Forgot to mention this in my last reply...
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "DUMB" QUESTION! We all start somewhere and are all here to learn and are all here to help whereever we can! So ASK! ASK!ASK!..and Never think your question is "dumb"...we're all family regardless of where you are in the learning curve. So...bring it on...anytime!

Hehe, funny you should ask..
I recently went up on what I like to call an "unescorted freefall" jump (I'm still on student status... I got ONE more accuracy and a check dive and then it's A license all the way, baby! B|)
...but anywho, I went up to altitude, had a fun exit and then did whatever the heck I wanted to do in freefall... including multiple forward and backward flips... FUN!
tip: pretend like you're in a swimming pool! ... just do it ... whatever happens it's gonna be FUN!

I am a gymnast so I reverted back to gymnastics when doing the flips. The thing i think about is to do a front flip, bring your hands and chest into your legs. On a back flip i just think the opposite. Bring your legs to your hands. I have seen video of people using their hands to flip them over but that isnt what i do. I am not used to having air to flip me so I just do what i do in gymnastics. Of course using the air would probably be a lot smarter though :P

Hey man, i'm not sure what an A-license check dive consists of? Does an instructor follow you out of the plane to make sure you're doing everything right? If that's the case and a front flip is mandatory then you could check with your instructor first and just do it out the door of the plane...

Position yourself with your left knee on the floor of the plane and your right foot pointing at around 45deg out the back, look at your toes and roll over your knee, you'll see the bottom of the plane and then the ground, when you see the ground, arch hard and there it is... :)

Hey Rick,
Just play around jumping up and down on your bed practicing the flip and see what works best for you ;)

I did my front flip by basically acting like I was trying to punch myself in my stomach and curl forward at the same time. So far everytime I try to do a frontflip I always end up flying on my back because I have long legs and dont realise you have to kick your butt on the other half (otherwise your legs hit the Relative wind and stops your rotation) good for other things but not for a checkdive.
So if you end up on your back you can
1. Try to tuck your feet in and finish off the flip.
2. Roll over.

But yes its similar to doing one underwater.

For the AFF program I am in, level 9 is when you do the back loops in the air, not front flips. I still have been looking through websites for instruction on the front flips because I think it would be fun to do.

Here is what I found: http://www.ehow.com/video_2362205_do-front-flips-skydiving-flying.html

I went through my AFF a little over a year ago and I did both front and backflips (level 6 I believe). But as it was explained to me it wasnt really to prove that I could do a backflip or front flip it was more to get you out of control and off of your belly to ensure that you can get back to your belly in the event that you accidentally end up on your back or out of control and flipping
