Just watched last night.  While not a true story it is fiction based around fact.

It is estimated that tens of thousands of Afghan interpreters, as well as other specialists, who worked with the US government were left behind during the withdrawal, and hundreds are believed to have died, with many more living in poverty and under the constant threat of Taliban reprisals.

Once again we abandon those that helped us.

Lots of blame to go around for all So did Canada, the UK and other NATO counties. Shameful conduct.

Hi airdvr,

And, Trump would have left them behind even earlier than Biden did.

Who said anything about Trump?  We've been doing this since Vietnam.

Well, the Afghan debacle was Trump's fault. He actually did a really good job of leaving Biden a situation that was not fixable. And a huge mess.

And the US has been doing that for a LOOOOOOOONG time.
Long before Viet Nam.

America has been quite successful at creating multi-generational hatred for the US and this has contributed to the terrorism we see.

We need to keep some perspective whilst we're self flagellating. We have pulled some real boners, that's a fact, but we're not alone. Russia, France, England, Spain, etc. have all had a turn in the barrel and have also done a fine job of pissing off entire countries and populations.

It's lonely at the top.

Weell I'll disagree. Yes the US has left many people stranded and abandoned. The Kurds and the Afghans the most recent. But a part of that is that politicians just keep wanting to use all that military firepower thats just sitting and sailing around. They define too many situations as having important national interests for the US.

The US is the leader in the current confrontations against China and Russia. Both of whom have imperial ambitions. Without US leadership NATO would be in a far worse state. China and Russia are generating enemies at a rate at least ten times that of the US.

Russia will likely need a couple decades to recover from Putin's stupidity and this war with Ukraine.Their economy was smaller than Canada's prior to the war and they just announced a cessation of refined oil exports.

It’s that whole “power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely” thing again

Well, YOU brought up "Covenant" and the Afghanistan withdrawal, and the Doha accords (Feb. 2020) were Trump's doing.

Actually John I think jumping to playing the Trump card so quickly speaks volumes about your concerns on how the withdrawal was handled.  I simply drew attention to what I thought was a pretty good movie and my feelings about the US leaving people holding the bag.

Given that Trump left Biden holding the bag and no choices I'd say it was fair game to toss out the Trump card. In the end it is always some politician (s) that call the end and what follows is more on them individually than the "US" collectively.

I agree .. TDS has overtaken the minds of so many. In the early 70's I worked with a man, Sen, who had to escape Viet Nam to the US before being killed after the US Military left. Luckily they didn't murder his wife and family but to the best of my knowledge he never saw them again. War is a SCAM.... Always has been.

You are plagiarizing General Smedley Butler. Stop being so transparent. This year, according to the WHO, over 5 million kids under the age of 5 will die from mostly preventable and treatable causes. If you aren't a Russian troll then look to where "kids" are really dying for no good reason and put your efforts there.

The "Trump Card" appears to be "Fraud, Go Directly to Jail"

We left Vietnam in 1975. After 1975 is not the early 70’s. Did he leave before we pulled out, or is this just more made up stuff?

Are you talking about Sen? I’m not sure of the reference. Because I don't think Slim is Canadian, and I know General Smedley Butler isn’t. Or maybe I’m missing something else entirely; that’s entirely possible

"She goes to a different school, you wouldn't know her" is I think what he's referencing.
