airdvr 198 #1 Posted September 13, 2019 https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/world-news/climate/climate-change-has-been-a-routine-scare-tactic-since-1930s/ “Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects. They concede that some of the more spectacular solutions proposed, such as melting the arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers, might create problems far greater than those they solve. But the scientists see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing variables of climate uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies.” April 28, 1975, Newsweek There's one born every minute... wmw999 2,136 #2 September 13, 2019 There's plenty of ocean to throw trash into, too. It'll never, ever, fill up or be noticeable. Svante Arrhenius basically invented physical chemistry; he was the one who first worked through this. It's taken well over 100 years for people to take his work seriously; lots of them still aren't. It's a complex system, which, unfortunately for many, means that a simple answer won't do it. The fact that it's been said before doesn't make it wrong. It makes us wrong. Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) migrating (Credit: Eric Baccega/naturepl.com) In August 2016, in a remote corner of Siberian tundra called the Yamal Peninsula in the Arctic Circle, a 12-year-old boy died and at least twenty people were hospitalised after being infected by anthrax. The theory is that, over 75 years ago, a reindeer infected with anthrax died and its frozen carcass became trapped under a layer of frozen soil, known as permafrost. There it stayed until a heatwave in the summer of 2016, when the permafrost thawed. This exposed the reindeer corpse and released infectious anthrax into nearby water and soil, and then into the food supply. More than 2,000 reindeer grazing nearby became infected, which then led to the small number of human cases. The fear is that this will not be an isolated case. ====================== Looks like she's right. This thread is especially funny in a forum where climate change deniers are still posting in a thread entitled "there's only one problem with climate change - it ended in 1998!" - and expect to be taken seriously. Do you realize that you just showed evidence that it was WARMER 75 years ago? Unless a dead reindeer dug it’s grave under the PERMAFROST, it only stands to reason, the permafrost formed AFTER the death of the reindeer

Years and years of snow cover the raindeer traping the carcass in the permafrost until the Earth warms up enough to melt years of permafrost. It's not hard to understand unless you try and spin it to fit your idea of how the climate works

brenthutch 388 #21 September 18, 2019 (edited) So they changed it to scare the populace into action? Or was it because we were never going to get close to 2 degrees at the rate we were going? Edited September 18, 2019 by brenthutch
