>I believe that Jesus taught salvation not socialism.

Acts 2:44-45 - And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.

2 Corinthians 8:13-15 - For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. As it is written, “Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.”

Matthew 19:21 - Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

Luke 3:11 - And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”

1 John 3:17 - But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?

Matthew 6:24 - No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

>The main fear that I hold is that all of America will follow California's example.

It almost certainly will, in a lot of ways. Greater personal freedom, technological advancements, new models for business and trade, American foods - often these start in California. Some examples include sourdough bread, car emission regulations, gay rights, blue jeans, the video recorder, lasers and the microprocessor. In other words, the very technology you use to complain about California was developed here.

And, of course, about half the food the country eats comes from CA.

You once said your greatest fear was "blue haired metrosexuals driving Priuses." As you pointed out, your fear of them is most likely because you have never met any. If you did, you would find out they were a lot like you - and pretty good people to know, despite the color of their hair. To paraphrase your statement -

"If you truly knew people like that, you would find out they were like you and would want to know them. However, you are on the outside looking at the physical aspects only. That old devil has his spirits influencing and convincing you that they are not good. They are perfectly willing to join you; you are not willing to join them."

I believe those scriptures refer to individuals and the golden rule not government programs through taxation.

Society does not benefit from the government control of sharing the misery and spreading poverty to gain votes.

Thank you Lord for getting me out of CA.

>I believe those scriptures refer to individuals and the golden rule not government
>programs through taxation.

It, of course, refers to both; the Bible is intended to be a guide to life, not a list of meaningless code words you speak in a church to get you into heaven.

A moral Christian government would follow the precepts of the Bible. We, of course, do not have that. (Indeed, it is ironic that the more a politician professes to be Christian, the more likely he is to support policies that take aid from the poor.)

>Society does not benefit from the government control of sharing the misery and
>spreading poverty to gain votes.

The poorest members of society do indeed benefit. The rich do not. Refer to the Bible on what Jesus thought of rich people who profited at the expense of the poor.

>Thank you Lord for getting me out of CA.

And there are plenty of people who thank God that they are not forced to live with armed religious extremists in a Deliverance-like setting in a compound in the backwoods of Georgia.

In other words, they have a view that is as accurate as yours.

Ah, you see, I do not ignore them. I do volunteer work to help the less fortunate, primarily veterans and rural mountain folk. In addition, my wife and I tithe 10% of our retirement income and give additional love offerings.

What do you do?

Pay a bunch of money to charities. Mostly hurricane relief and Chesapeake Bay restoration this year. Also Boy Scouts, Red Cross, Doctors without borders, various cancer fund raisers.

Looks like we are both good.

"There’s an unsettling of the spirit moving across the land — the culmination of years of religious Christian corruption. Good people everywhere are sensing it deep within. What for many has been a growing source of suspicion is now becoming a certainty. A time of emerging clarity is upon us as the curtains are drawn open and the true wizard is revealed. Yet, there will be no clicking of the heels to save us now. For the American dream is being diabolically hijacked into the conservative evangelical scheme — God help us all.

In my estimation, there is truly no greater evil being wielded upon the earth. The false gospel of evangelical Christianity has long been eroding our society, creating spiritual junkies, and asserting a white, male, heterosexual imperialism and privilege into every segment of our living. Its prescriptions for sin management only serve to further increase it, leaving good people spiritually strung out, hypocritical, self-righteous, and addicted to the poison, not the cure. With an insistence upon believing that God is angry, vengeful, and condemning of a sin-ladened humanity, followers spiritually justify a self-deputization to police society as they live out their perceived calling to convert the world to their privileged ideology — lest we all burn in hell.

No matter the nobility of some with their good intentions and heart, the true aspirations, pursuits, and passions of much of conservative evangelical Christianity are not true freedom and equality for all, but religious power and control for them. In their minds and hearts, the ushering in of the Kingdom of God is, in reality, the ushering in of a white, male, heterosexual, conservative evangelical dominance in all places and things."

Red-Letter Christians constitute a non-denominational movement within Christianity. Proponents of the movement believe that Christianity, and especially evangelicalism, has been exploited by both right-wing and left-wing political movements and become too partisan and politicized. As a response they endeavor to create an evangelical movement that focuses on the teachings of Jesus Christ, particularly in regard to social issues. The two most prominent figures associated with the movement are Jim Wallis and Tony Campolo.[1]

***Mostly from the testimony of friends from CA. Also, I recently read an article from a university professor in CA that traveled the eastern San Joaquin Valley, I think that was the area and compared it to a third world country. He wrote about over-regulation of industry and decay of social infrastructure along with the loss of farmland. We read about sanctuary cities and the desire to have open borders for your state. Michael Savage bemoans the filth and degradation of San Francisco and surrounding area. Governor Jerry Brown is considered shameful.

I guess my judgment is biased.

ETA: I lived in Lee Vining for 2 years and the people there hated everything about LA and its surrounding communities.

Perhaps God will just slide California into the Pacific in order to save America?

I sure hope not. The economics of losing the world's eighth largest GPD would drop the United States into a depression that would make the downurns of the 1930s and early 2000s look infinitesimal. http://www.lao.ca.gov/LAOEconTax/Article/Detail/90

Having recently spent a week in San Diego working I understand why people will pay what they do to live in the best weather and some of the best geography in the country.

Are you aware that the spreading movement of globalization brings with it one world government, one world leader, and one world religion? That is called a New World Order or the Anti-Christ.

These are the end times. The forces are gathering.

Why is it that we never hear complaints from the right about the massive subsidies the government provides to the wealthy and to corporations, but always a lot of whining about helping poor people pay for food and shelter?

Ron and the right do not believe in government of the people by the people for the people. Mainly because they don't like so many of the people. They only like some of the people. Namely the ones that belong to their tribe.

It's funny in a way. They would like the government to reflect "Christian Values", but refuse to accept that government has a role helping people. And instead of seeing the government as an important part of society made up of members of society, they choose to see it as an enemy. Except when they want a benefit from it. Then they are the most entitled people ever.

To put it in simple terms, they don't want to play nice and share.

I would argue that they oppose a government that reflects christian values. They want a government that advocates Christian beliefs, while shunning christian values.

I'm referring to big-C Christians as those for whom the central tenet of their spirituality is belief in a supernatural Christ, and little-c christians to refer to those who act strive to act as Christ acted, regardless of spiritual belief (or even lack thereof). While Christians are busy worshiping the false idol into which they've transformed Christ, christians are busy living through Christ, enjoying the salvation derived from doing good deeds for the sake of doing good things, for people with whom they may have nothing in common other than being human.

The way I read it, The original Christians thought Christ was coming right back, in fact they started losing faith when fellow Christians were dying before Christ came back. In fact Paul mentions that some original Christins mixed with “Sleeping” ones would be present for his return. Fast forward 2000 years and folks are still waiting.
