e warranted = you don't need to research anything, just take your word for it. http://wpcarey.asu.edu/.../reports/tuition.pdf I couldn't find the exact site I was looking for, but I did find this above. Look at page 6, it illustrates a slight falling of tuition costs national at the end of the Clinton era, then a rapid rise as your boy took office. Inferrential? Sure. http://media.www.dailytarheel.com/...reases-1366845.shtml A USA Today survey reported a 74.1 percent increase in tuition at the University of Arizona since 2002-03 and a 70.4 percent increase during the same span at Arizona State University. Still not the site I was looking for, but it illustrates what I was talking about.

>I have - rational people realize that it's slang.

Yep, and it's pretty offensive.

Yup, so offensive they even use the phrase in songs - link

Fortunately most people are both rational and considerate, and thus don't use it.

With all the projection you two have going on, you should open a movie theater.

Can't. It's not profitable when the 1% keeps making crap like Atlas Shrugged.

Anybody wanna make any bets on how this does over the weekend?

Now, maybe if John Aglialoro would have hired an actual writer rather than doing it himself . . . but that might have involved a WGA member . . . can't have those pesky unions involved.

The thread has come around in a full circle. You guys should be in NASCAR.

Not my fault if some people crash and burn while making RIGHT turns. ;)

Dude...just because you spun out 270 degrees and hit the wall doesn't make it a right turn...but feel free to believe whatever salves your ego.

Have you seen the movie yet?

I'm hopeful, but how often are movies anywhere near as good as the book?

Sometimes you only need to see the trailer of a film to know it's crap. I've seen the trailer. Not a lot of wiggle room for that to be better in the theater.

I'll admit I haven't seen it yet as it just was released a small number of theaters today, however, it's getting pretty universally bad reviews.

As much as I hate it, MTX is right. "Your boy" is not the pejorative statement your making it out to be. I have no question many here would address obama as "boy"(and many more have family and friends that indeed think it's proper) given the opportunity. You can safely assume only hyper sensitive whites would take offense to "your boy" being used to describe a black guy, who is in fact your friend, associate or one you admire.

"Professional" reviewers are panning it, audience reviews are 85% positive on rotten tomatoes.

"Ebert also noted the ballot-stuffing of movie review sites, noting on Twitter, "As I write, Atlas Shrugged has a ★★★★ rating from my readers. The film has not yet been seen publicly.""

Perhaps the readers were rating the trailer or the concept of the film.

Perhaps. But that would still mean the audience rating has toss all to do with the quality of the movie.

And apart from thinking the movie sucked, I don't know what reason Ebert would have for pointing it out unless the pre-release ratings for this particular film was out of whack from what they usually see. But yeah, who knows. Maybe someone's overheard him on the phone saying he really fuckin' hates Ayn Rand.

If the rotten tomatoes rating was from people seeing the trailer, I might agree - as it is, the audience reviews are from the date of release and later for the overwhelming majority - I think I saw 3-4 from prior to the release that had ratings (outside of spam shopping posts).

Box office mojo has it rated at a B+, and projected at a 680K take for opening day - not too shabby (imo) for only being shown at 300 theatres

Ebert panning the movie doesn't surprise me, given his love of Moore mockumentaries.

Watch "Source Code" instead

There is nothing wrong with recommending another show for people to watch.
But to tell them watch this instead of that, is just plain wrong.

Really?

If I knew you were about to eat a pile of shit disguised as chocolate pudding and told you to eat some actual chocolate pudding instead, would I be "just plain wrong" to do so?

So it would be OK to recommend a Safire2 for a newer jumper. But if you recommended a Safire2 instead of a cheap used Nova, it would be just plain wrong of you to do that?

I value world where people are allowed to make their own choices as to what they want to do with their time. I want nothing to do with a world where I am told what to watch. If someone wants to recommend a movie to me, that is fine. But let me decide what I watch and what I don't watch.

I know little about this "Atlas Shrugged" story. Chances were very high that I was NOT going to watch it before this thread popped up. But seeing as the usual Fabian Socialists around here who believe in indoctrination are criticizing the movie. It might just be worth a few laughs and I may make a point to watch it when it becomes available. The vast majority of work that comes out of Hollywood these days is pure garbage. So maybe this movie is like all the other Hollywood trash. I will however reserve all judgment on whether or not I like the movie until after I see it, if I do indeed make the time to watch it.

Yep. And I bet you value a world in which people can give other people recommendations, too.

I think you will find that you will be able to elude Quade's crack commando team of Canadian Cinematic Supressors if you do decide to see this movie

(BTW I strongly recommend you do _not_ see Arthur II.)

Who are you and what did you do with the regular rational BillVon the moderator we know?

Twice now in this thread I have said there is no harm in recommending things to people. Obviously I was fixating on the word instead as Kallend was saying don't watch this movie, but instead watch another one. What is wrong with watching both movies and then forming an opinion after the fact. Once again I have no problem when someone recommends something to me. But I want the freedom of choice to make my own decisions. I don't need others telling me what to watch and what not to watch.
