winsor 186 #26 January 5, 2011 QuoteAny one know a good source for a Single Shot Derringer Pistol? Matt You don't have a lot of options when it comes to single-shot metallic-cartridge Derringers. The reason is that they are rather useless in general. .41RF .45Colt .22s
rushmc 18 #27 January 5, 2011 QuoteQuoteDoes it have to be a derringer style pistol? Have you looked at the latest crop of pocket pistols from folks like Ruger and Kel-Tec? I have a P3AT and couldn't be happier with it. I picked up an LCP, last time home. Nice little gun. winsor 186 #29 January 5, 2011 Quote I'm curious why is has to be SINGLE shot?Lot of other choices if that requirement goes away. None of my business though. Never mind, If you go with a Henry Deringer knockoff, you have a single-shot by default. The fact that it's a front-stuffer does not affect its utility much. The .41 caliber used to shoot Lincoln was a case in point of how useless is the genre. Lincoln was merely wounded by the pistol, which lodged a ball right inside his skull. It was being pithed by his doctors while fishing for the ball that proved fatal. By and large, a single-shot derringer is liable to do little more than annoy a serious attacker; it makes little difference whether it is loaded or not. If you need a means of self-defense, get a good pair of running shoes. Put one in front of the other, repeat as necessary until out of trouble. airtwardo 6 #31 January 5, 2011 And IIRC, one of the bad points of the derringer was, 'by today's standards' the unsafe way the hammer rested on the firing pin allowing it to fire if dropped on it's backside. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
