The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) has completed training for 2,200
Transportation Safety Officers (TSOs) at the Los Angeles International
Airport according to a press release found on the MPAC website.

The MPAC release notes that the two-month training course informed officers
of "the diversity of Muslims around the world from cultural dress to
language to tenets. The four trainers taught the TSOs how to properly handle
a Quran and discussed the different ways Muslim women and men choose to
cover or dress. For example, the TSOs learned if a woman wears hijab and
needs a secondary screening she should be screened in a private area by a
female TSO officer."

In 1986, MPAC was formed as a political action arm of one of the largest
Wahhabi mosques in America, the Islamic Center for Southern California.

As the Center for Security Policy's Team B II report entitled "Sharia: The
Threat to America" notes, "The founders of the Islamic Center for Southern
California are Hassan Hathout and his brother Maher Hathout. The late Hassan
Hathout was a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement. The two
brothers Maher spent time in an Egyptian prison during the early days of the
Muslim Brotherhood's activities there, led by the Brotherhood's founder
Hassan Al Banna. MPAC's own publication, The Minaret, has proudly called
Hassan a 'companion of' and Maher 'a close disciple of' Brotherhood founder
Hassan al Banna."

Maher Hathout also founded and is currently a senior advisor for MPAC. He
and others at MPAC also currently work for and maintain a close relationship
with the Islamic Center of Southern California.

I'm a little hesitant to accept icsc as a "Wahhabi mosque" as that's a pretty strong (and derogatory) claim to make. I poked around briefly and I don't really see evidence of it in their actions. (If it's any consolation I did note that it's surrounded by a Sizzler, a Buddhist temple, and a Jack in the Box.)

As for these particular actions by MPAC, is this really any different from the USPA trying to help educate the TSA about skydiving rigs?

Yeah, I'm not seeing anything wrong with it either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm human, and I admit that I had to take a deep breath when I read your OP. I'm not going to pretend that I don't understand why this story is frustrating just to make myself look better.

My reaction to reading the icsc part was, "crap... really? what's the story with this place..." and then I spent the 20 minutes or so reading about the place, things they've supported, and statements their spokespeople have made.

Remember to keep the problems of violent international extremists, idiots working for the TSA (btw I actually had a pleasantly uneventful trip to Chicago last week free of pat downs or body scans), and "Sharia-creep" separate. You have to, because there isn't one solution. And don't think that people with my mind set are all frogs in the pot of boiling water. We're people standing next to a few pots of water with clear view of thermometers in each. We don't want to see any of them boil.

Invest in beans and bullets, in equal amounts.

Rice and bullets don't supply all the essential amino acids for a complete protein.

Hmm

Your diet?

I'll discuss the topic.

They provided education about Islam to the TSO's.

There is less ignorance in the world now. I'll bet that the TSO's already knew how to handle a bible, now they know something about the quran.

Some people will still have a hissy fit over things not being done right, some TSO's will have a hissy fit over having to acknowledge that Islam is actually a religion, and the world will continue to spin on its axis.

Just so I understand your point, should the TSA not respect anyone's personal feelings/beliefs and try to work within them if possible or is it just the Muslims that they should have no respect for?

Agreed. Education will only help them do their jobs.

Again I agree
but
Shouldn't all being screened be treated the same?

And what is the proper way to handle a bible?

Because everyone is not the same. "Take your top off" means something different to a woman than to a man. Agents should understand the difference.

So, a catholic woman does not deserve privacy when being searched, yet a Muslim does?

Ah

So you are for special preferential treatment of groups people based on ......

well

on what?

And do you know when the special training for the treatment of Christians was done?

But I have to say that you have now admitted you set some people and groups above others I understand many of your view points much better

At least the WHY you are for segregation of groups (at least treatment of different groups)
