"Green" Consumers More Unethical

How going green may make you mean
Ethical consumers less likely to be kind and more likely to steal, study finds.

Do Green Products Make Us Better People is published in the latest edition of the journal Psychological Science. Its authors, Canadian psychologists Nina Mazar and Chen-Bo Zhong, argue that people who wear what they call the "halo of green consumerism" are less likely to be kind to others, and more likely to cheat and steal. "Virtuous acts can license subsequent asocial and unethical behaviours," they write...

...in an honour system in which participants were asked to take money from an envelope to pay themselves their spoils, the greens were six times more likely to steal than the conventionals...

So I was looking at a blog on this. Some of the comments are pretty funny. My favorite:

"Well this theory certainly explains why Santa Claus beats the living shiat out of his wife."

Anyhow, if you'll please excuse me, I've got some dirty motor oil I need to pour into the storm sewer.

If you'd just poured the acid in it would have dissolved part of the dog. DUH!

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

No, because my old tires would be in the way.

If the street wouldn't flood all the time I'd just take it all to the recycle center 3 blocks away.

I blame bad infrastructure

Wow... You are green. I usually just pile my old tires in a heap, and then have a nice fire.

I blame Obamacare. I TOLD you this would happen.

I blame Muslims. Somehow.

Weak. You should be able to come up with at least 4 reasons, not just somehow.

1- They are brown
2- They speak funny
3- They wear pointy elf looking shoes
4- They were born in Kenya.

Anyhow, I eagerly look forward to this scientific study being peer reviewed and replicated.

:|

It will be peer reviewed and replicated, won't it?

Anyone? Beuller?

When the truth is so blantantly obvious, why would anyong take it up?

When you understand the value of rigorous, independent and published peer review to differentiate junk science (not my term) from the real McCoy (not my term, either), let us know.

When those like you do not use the peer reviewed process to support political views it will have more meaning
