Obesity

Recommended Posts

Any idea how much alcohol cost society in lives and treasure? Sounds like you should check those numbers out. From your other post on your personal drinking habits, sounds like your drug of choice is booze instead of food. How many people are killed from fatties compared to people trying to drive to work after drinking 2 hours earlier? You are a greater threat to people than any obese person is. This in one fucking hypocriticle post. You should also look at lost productivity from people that come in drunk or hungover to work.

Drunks are a far greater threat to my family and I compared to the obeses.

What a fucking joke.

Gq Jumper you say we should be upset that obese people may be worsening the climate problem by the increase iin fuel loads they demand. This is a good point.
Another good point is that vegetarians should feel the same way about meat eaters. As a vegetarian myself I certainly do. Pound for pound meat produces 36 times more C02 equivalent production than say aspargus.

Physics world recently published an article claiming we could drastically reduce green house gases by simply switching to a veggie diet.

So I can onlly presume you feel just as strongly about these selfish meat eaters, am I right?

This is just a blurb from one abstract, but you can find more of this research easily enough. But basically, there are a lot of caveats in the "overweight" debate, and there's not a good health reason to disparage people, across the board, who are overweight. Of course there's never a GOOD reason to belittle people, but some folks are just apt to do that anyway.

Independent Association of Hip Circumference with Metabolic Profile in Different Ethnic Groups

Quote

Results: In all ethnic groups, larger hip circumference was associated with lower glucose and triglyceride levels in both sexes and higher high-density lipoprotein levels in women only, after adjustment for waist circumference, BMI, and age. Adjustment for height or leptin did not materially change the results.

Discussion: In conclusion, we confirmed the protective association of relatively larger hips in four nonwhite ethnic groups. Leptin does not seem to play a mediating role in this association.

Woohoo! Love that heart-healthy pear shape

All that said, one of the big contributors to obesity is the decrease in daily incidental exercise for most people. It was a lot easier for most people to be thinner when cars didn't take you 1/2 mile, when a much larger percentage worked on farms, and even office jobs involved getting up to get things from files. Even then, the banker and executives (who moved less) had the image of being portly.

People's bodies naturally accumulate fat. It's what they're supposed to do in the good times so that the bad times don't kill them. The fact that the paradigm doesn't really apply doesn't affect nature, only (some people's) intellect.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

According to my BMI I'm obese. I'm 6'1" and weigh 265lbs. Am I over weight? Yup, actually I'm kind of fat. Am I obese? I don't think so. I also bench 50lbs over my weight for reps. Do I care that since I'm "obese" that you think personally have a problem with me? Nope.

As a side note, in my physical last year my blood pressure was fine, my heart is strong and my cholesterol is good.

Here's a recent picture. Sorry that its a serious "I'm a dork" picture, but its all I've got right now. What do you think? Does my obesity offend you?

EDIT: forgot to attach the picture

Scary dude!;)

>So next time you feel like calling someone insensitive for complaining about
>overweight people maybe you should take a second to consider how
>inconsiderate the overweight are to the rest of us.

?? Do overweight people really bother you that much? They don't bother me (provided they're not trying to knock me down or sit on me or something.)

.

Would that include overlapping your seat in the coach section of the plane?

Of course the great example is also veggie:
the chip butty.
Ingredients:
Chips (in the USA french fries)
Bread
Butter
Voila a chip butty.

but not vegan. People here would still complain.

Oh wouldn't find too many people complaining about a good chip butty ..... not sane ones, anyway.... Pass the ketchup, please.

1st off they're not French Fries... they're Chips:P

and what you folks call chips are really Crisps.

Oh and never, for one minute think that those shitty things that one gets in McDs are Chips - they're not, not by a very large margin - fuck knows what they are, but they ain't chips - scrawny bits of crap.

We demand proper big fat chips cooked in beef dripping!!

Jeeze people .... how difficult is it? :P
