WTF? I just watched the video here, and I can't see what the fuss is about:

I agree.

So, I wonder about FOX and AP writing the article to begin with.
Why?

Don't the "differently abled" wish to be treated "just like everybody else"?:)
I read the story, and watched the clip. They didn't portray him as stupid. They portrayed him as a blind, coke-obsessed, Jersey hater. Which he is.

I'm not a big SNL fan, but that was funny. :D:D

They didn't go anywhere. They simply "were"

If you crave controversy, just wait until next week when they're doing skits about chucking shoes at helpless imbeciles.

Really?

Nice post...........

See, it's that sort of stereotyping that crosses the line: it unfairly implies that all helpless imbeciles are helpless, and imbeciles.

That's just SNL. They've been 'edgy', for a long time. As was said here previously... we all, need to lighten-up.

Agreed!

It is SNL for christs sake.
It was funny

It's not that they went too far, it's that they picked the wrong topic.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to mock whatever a person does that he had control over. It's not really funny to mock a person for things they have no control over whatsoever.

Hmm,

Well, I look forward to the conversation based on your perspective.

Not that I agree with it.

I mean, who picks what is the right topic and what is not? You? Me?

Not right or wrong from a PC perspective mind you. Right or wrong from a comedic perspective.

Sure, some people find "cripple humor" funny, but not most people.

Look at Timmy and Jimmy on South Park. The VAST majority of time the real humor, the things that are actually funny, have nothing to do with the handicap, but what they do and how they relate to the world in spite of it. Timmy isn't funny because he's retarded. He's funny because he has a limited vocabulary but seems smarter, more compassionate and sympathetic than most of the people without one.

With Paterson, you have a LOT of better stuff to make fun of other than him simply not knowing which way is up when holding a graph or him wandering in front of a camera.

I've been a big fan of SNL since the first show with the original cast... Belushi, Aykroyd, Murray and the others. To me, they were to SNL what Sean Connery was to 'James Bond... there will never be another like them. SNL has had it's ups and downs over the years and some very good casts. It has been that 'edgi-ness' of the show that maintains it's appeal. They really hit a home-run with the Sarah Palin skits... classic SNL.

That still does not answer the question as to who decides?

Everyone has different view points. Different experiences, different upbrings.
You say "but not most people". Your opinion but far far from fact (even though your post would have us think it is fact)

So I ask again, Who decides if it is funny or not? You? Me?

I disagree with you specifically on this point however. This IS a classic example of how PC works if not PC itself.

Who decides? Ultimately, the audience.

Ever spend any time in front of a live one? You can hear the difference.

They seemed to enjoy it just fine.

But, that is not what we are really talking about here, it is.

Because the audience we are posting too here is not in the SNL threater.

We are talking about an article written by FOX and AP speaking about someone that the show was aimed at. And the someone being "offended". (the PC attack word) You seem to think the article has some validity.

So, my question stands, who decides?

I will never forget Belushi on stage with Joe Cocker. I never laughed so hard in my life. Not to metion, Belushi could really sing!!
