Not long now till we hear "Give me your PAPERS!"

What I am about to say WILL NOT happen, so it is moot point!

But to reverse what has been done to our country by its very own countrymen re; politicians and businessmen and some unknoing commoners, would be to REVOLT against the system and start over!

Harder than first time? I think not. But it has to be done COLLECTIVELY by the PEOPLE and not individualisticly. YEP shit will hit the fan for a few years while WE are regrouping around the PRINCIPLES that made this countries ideals GREAT!

I mean throw every one of those Senators, Congressmen, and representives OUT of office and I mean like yesterday!

Put the Baker and the shop owner and the blacksmith etc back in! The outside world will shune us and this and that, but the better outcome for OUR nation is what counts.... RIGHT?

But we would have to do it as WHOLE and not as individuals or else it won't work. It will be worse than what we have and are seeing now.

Elections every 4, 6 years has not cut it for a very very long time. (one of the reasons for our demise)

Politics has NO place in business and visa versa! We do not need a gvt that regulates EVERYfrickingTHING! The PEOPLE will buy and sell where WE feel the most comfortable.

EXAMPLE, if ACME bed manf makes a shitty and UNSAFE bed to sleep in/on, then WE will watch them (ACME) go out of business or watch them make a better product!!! The executive, legislative and judicial branches of our gvt need not to bother themselves or their PURPOSEs with that stuff...

Thats NOT their job!

Cant disagree witht that

I understand the fears and I hear the retoric but, today, when it comes to voting, voter fraud, illeagals in our country, (and I am not trying to support a national ID card) why would it be wrong to identify ourselves as leagal US citizens? Our drivers licenses already show our addresses and all that so, if there was a permant passport type card we need for airports and employment, what, past what we already provide for a DL, would we be risking?

Although I am sure you are aware of it, but not every one is: legal resident aliens do NOT get to vote.
Therefore, what would a national ID state: that one is residing in the US legally (in which case it will do nothing against voter fraud)? Or would it state that one can vote (therefore doing nothing to tackle the illegal resident issue)?
Just thoughts, not really any idea about a solution (I am opposed to having to carry a national ID at all times, although I've had a valid passport for the past 35 years...)

True, thanks

If the Mexican Army can escort shipments of drugs across the US southern border, they can escort anything. Terrorism, like 9/11, subway bombings, could have been prevented. This is another method come late. Drop your guard, and it will happen again. Terrorism has nothing to do with our genes, life-styles, and luck; it can be prevented. Sure, the cost is high, and the government must be held accountable for every dollar spent. How? That's up to those "honorable" people we elect and our input if it means anything.

No. The system is not static; you could try something to prevent it, but your actions will affect others, and they'll change theirs. You cannot stop terrorism using only security measures.

Have you seen "Butterfly Effect" movie?

Hopefully, these people could be taken out before they even arrive here in combination with security measures. Have not seen "Butterfly Effect". Sounds interesting and will check it out.

The last thing I want to do is punish citizens of a state who would love to have a REAL ID license but can't get one," Chertoff said.

Anytime some asswipe from the gummint (especially this administration) piously intones how he'd hate to punish any honest law abiding citizens for anything, you just know he's not only got the plan all worked out, but has a monster erection just thinking about it.

Who and under what circumstances are people required to submit information to such a data base?

Depends what you classify as biometrics. I was required to give fingerprint biometrics at the US border last year. I did nothing wrong, but I tweaked the border guard's interest for whatever reason. Yes I could have refused and never visited the US again, but it is just another example of the govs' (ours and yours) using more and more reasons to get the info on file.
I suspect you will be giving some to open a bank account within ten years. Now that is not the government's information, but we have seen what companies like Google and AT&T do when Uncle Sam comes looking for data, why would the banks be any different.

I think a lot of these people are so against it because they think its just a step away from the embedded 666 thing.... The anti-christ is out to get them you know.

That's not me. I want the government to have as little information on me as possible. I've seen politicians and I don't trust them. Unfortunately I'm surrounded by the terminally naive and/or fearful, so I'm sure this will go through.

Our state department has no idea who is here and how many. They are in a panic to catch up. They already have the information they need on most of us U.S. people who post here. I got this in an email today. part.. "Hope Rides Alone" by Eddie Jeffers. SGT Jeffers was kia in Iraq September 19, 2007. "......And every day, the enemy changes...only now, the enemy is becoming someting new. The enemy is transitioning from the Muslim extremists to Americans. The enemy is becoming the very people whom we defend with our lives".

forget it. your government has probably accumulated more information about you than they will ever admit and more than you will ever want them to know.

Wow...no shit? I have to have a passport to do that??? Thanks, I *never* would have known that. :P (hint: check my location)

I'm not sure where you live - I'm guessing overseas, and possibly Germany based on your name. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Going on that assumption - do you have to show your passport to go from Hessen to Baden-Wurtemburg? (That's a rhetorical question - I know that you don't).

That is the basic premise behind the Real ID - an unneeded and unwanted 'internal passport' just like the days of of the gulags.
