  1. Skydive Las Vegas, located at Boulder City, NV, dropping jumpers through Class B airspace in proximity to arrival corridor/outer marker on Las Vegas McCarran RWY 25L/R. What I know, is its a smooth operation. ATC gives a "jump approved" when pilot calls out 2 minutes prior. I like subway.

Assuming: Yaris $14,000 Prius $24,000 Yaris 40MPG Prius 50MPG Total cost to drive 100,000 miles with these two cars: Assuming Gas Price $3.50 Yaris $22,750 Prius $31,000 With all the above assumptions, you'll save money with the cheaper Yaris, with as much as $20/gallon gas price. (Break-Even-Point). ---- Changing the assumptions to more extreme: Same Price. Yaris MPG 38 Prius MPG 60 Gas price will need to become $10.30 before it is cheaper to buy and drive a Prius. Gas price really isn't the main factor when looking to save money on driving...its the initial purchase price of the vehicle that matters, combined with above average gas MPG. I like subway.
  3. Hey, I get better MPG than the sticker because I drive like a grandma. The EPA changed their testing profile for 2008 MPG stickers, so all cars generally report a little less MPG for 2008, compared to earlier years. 2007 Yaris had sticker MPG of 40/34, and as I said, I'm getting 41-43, sometimes 44-45 and my record for one tank driving very carefully at 50mph the entire tank, with only three on-off-ramps highway, is personal record 47 MPG. I think gas prices will have to go pretty high before it becomes cheaper to buy a Prius, if all you care about is your total cost of A to B, riding in a new comfortable car. I like subway.
  4. I've got the Yaris from Toyota, almost the same MPG, average 41-43MPG, but the car costs about half of the Prius, without too big difference in size of the car. My total cost for buying the car, and putting gas in it for 100,000 miles is less than the initial purchase cost of the Prius... :-) I like subway.
  5. SW have how many accidents since the beginning of time? The FAA allowed them an extension on a few inspections...so what? Most planes that fly aren't in perfect condition anyway...little squawks that doesn't matter to flight., but that are legally required.. I like subway.
  6. I may be just imagining it, but my engine runs more smooth on higher octane rated fuels. I always fuel up on the good stuff (Chevron Supreme) when I'm going to drive long distances with a heavy load in my tiny little car. I like subway.
  7. Doh! If I was still illegal, and wasn't trying to be a pilot and all, I'd offer to put money for the fine into escrow, and then work illegally. If I wasn't caught, I'd get the money back, if I got caught and I had to pay the fine for the employer, IT WOULD STILL BE CHEAPER THAN TO IMMIGRATE THE LEGAL WAY! I like subway.

Way I understood the report, only way it could be not for compensation or hire, would be if only club members were allowed on board the plane, and such membership, skydiving service, jump tickets etc, were not being offered to the public at large (i.e. not accepting members of the public). This is in line with the FAA rules taught at commercial certificate level examination. So perhaps a private pilot can fly his own family up for a few loads, but once the neighbors wants in, its a commercial operation. I like subway.

  10. I, as a jump pilot, is not member of USPA. Nor will I ever desire to be. A great forum is open to everyone, or else it will die quicly. That's what I've seen happen to other forums changing their policy to pay-to-sign-up, veryify-employment, be-referred-by-a-friend etc. This forum is good the way it is. I like subway.
  11. And it doesn't get that much better a year later when you've got 1200 hours... That's where I am, and I'm sorta locked into flying divers and my other day job, because going to an airline involves up to two months with little or no pay during training. You've gotta have cash reserve to afford getting a job. Flying divers does nothing for your instrument skills, so I'm also worried as *** about the simulator part of interviews. I like subway.
  12. On a busy day in the Caravan I can make as much as $50/hour, but only for a few hours at a time, and not every day. So it comes out to half of the national poverty level wage. I like subway.
  13. Are bicycle riders considered vehicles? Excuse me for not knowing the American rule of traffic law... I'd look around real good for a cop, and then drive by. I like subway.
  14. I get $15/load with no monthly guarantee. Comes out to between $300/month to $900/month at best (busiest). I've gotten offers from other DZs, one offer of $500/week minimum with $10/load and housing provided in a trailer at the property for only $75/month. Another place offered me $10/load with no minimum guarantee (they said: get another job in the city!!). I like subway.
  15. No, I'm not "Zing". There are good investments, and bad investments. If you've got $70K in credit, there are better ways to go about getting a return on that money. Pilot training should definitively be paid cash with money you can afford to lose. Just like gambling in Las Vegas - don't play with money you don't have. Being a pilot is just a job after a while, but a very hard way to get a good paycheck. Getting a private or a glider license would be a much more enjoyable way to fly. In fact, I took a glider license when I was 17, and it was the most enjoyable flying I've ever done. I like subway.
