    Lost Prairie Boogie - July 24-Aug 1

One more day to go, and I'll be there. Again, if someone needs a ride from Kalispell on Sunday around 4pm, PM me. I can even wait till 5pm or even 6pm (I heard there is a nice bar in the airport), but then you gonna drive :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

    Lost Prairie Boogie - July 24-Aug 1

I'm arriving on DL 4737 to Kalispell at 3:37pm on Sun Jul 25. Since I'm renting a mid-size SUV, I can pick up 1-2 people with gear (maybe even 3 if I get Explorer). PM me if you need a ride and arriving around that time. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

I'm better than you because I don't watch TV.

Because some people stand in disbelief when they understand you have no idea what those "Raiders" and "Giants" they speak about are, except that it somehow related to sports. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

NAS synced via a VPN tunnel? Need help...

Depending on whether this NAS provides SSH/rsync, I'd set up SSH (with public key authentication only) and used rsync over ssh to synchronize them. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

    Avatar (Movie)??

First part was kinda crap. Second was excellent. Third was crap. Fourth was kinda funny, more like "good old stuff". First part was crap. Second was good. I didn't see the third. Never seen it, but from what I heard from others seems to be an extreme piece of crap. My wife liked Avatar though. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Immigrating to the US. How much money do one need?

Your (and her) previous job experience is more important than a diploma. I know nothing about childcare, but engineering employers here in U.S. seem not to really care about your diploma (even if it's a diploma from a known good school), and much more on your previous work experience you have and can prove. Did you try Green Card lottery? I personally know over 10 locals who got green cards through it - in fact, I myself got mine through it. While this is not a reliable way (I'd rather say you should try it if you're not really concerned whether you'd get it or not), it solves a lot of issues. It typically takes 6-18 months from the moment a company files the paperwork to USCIS to the moment you actually start working for them - may give you an idea what kind of expectations they may have. Keep in mind that there are a lot of locals who already here, looking for a job and do not have any issues with visas - so if your qualifications are good and unique enough, and you have a lot of relevant experience, you'll get through. If it is not the case, I'd suggest postponing it for a couple of years until the economy recovers. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Do I NEED all that iPhone memory

If you gonna use any navigation software, you need 16Gb at least. U.S. map s are at least 1.2Gb (Magellan RoadMate; Navigon is 1.8Gb), and Europe maps are 2-3 gigs depending on coverage. Dictionaries are another kind of apps which are flash-hungry. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Need a good free anti virus

You need to do much more than just that. You need to check and install updates to the software you're running (system and browser are must), and track vulnerabilities in other programs (like recent one in Adobe Reader which wasn't fixed yet). JPEG vulnerabilities could infect your system just when you open a e-mail (not attachments), as the HTML renderer used in Outlook is the same as used in IE. Slapper was infecting Linux servers running vulnerable Apache/mod_ssl without any user action. And so on. Sorry, but you have no idea how modern AV works. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Need a good free anti virus

Never seen it with my experience with them in two anti-virus companies I have been working for since 2000 (mostly as developer, occasionally as virus researcher). They indeed have some samples which probably only one out of 100,000 will be able to run (like a ZOO archive), but it is indeed malware. And while not every their sample would work on Windows 7, we still have customers using Windows 98(!), so the threat is indeed there. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

AVG is better in detection until you try to get support from them. Then you're screwed. Avast is faster, but their detection is not as good on latest malware. I also suggest av-test.org. And this makes is bad antivirus for non-experts. Having svchost.exe removed as false positive typically means full system reinstall. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

    Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

We give gifts on New Year day. Christmas was never celebrated where I grew up. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Need a good free anti virus

Download a boot CD with an anti-virus. I would recommend either BitDefender or Kaspersky. Both are available for free and have a pretty good score in independent tests. Burn it, boot from the CD, and run a scan on your hard drive. Just in case, be ready to repair/reinstall your Windows, sometime it happens after repair that Windows doesn't boot anymore. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Ladies, please don't do this ok!

This statement is the same as "movies are not everyone's cup of tea". There are probably more porn genres than regular movie genres, and some of them (like people eating shit) make even me sick. Some of them, especially old French movies with Brigitte Lahaie, are very good - you can actually watch them like a movie without using "fast forward" on your remove every minute. I'd guess 50% of overall population are bat shit nuts. Probably until they're 35 or so. Then the things turn around. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
