Emma 0 #1 August 3, 2002 Hello...Just after some help from the US skydiving community...(nothing to do with skydiving though, sorry - but you lot are the best source I have for some frank feedback!) I'm about to come to New York from London to do a big sales presentation. Is the word 'WANKERS' an acceptable word for a pitch? (As in, 'there is no room in this market for wankers'). Does anyone even know what it means? (I suspect not...) If you could suggest an alternative that's US friendly, it would be much appreciated... Thx E
SkydiveMonkey 0 #2 August 3, 2002 erm .... no. Wanker is usually used as an insult meaning someone who "jerks off".____________________ Say no to subliminal messages

bbarnhouse 0 #4 August 3, 2002 Emma~ Indeed I am aware of the term and NO it would not be acceptable. There are other words that are used as terms of "endearment" by Brits and Aussies that folks in the US find quite offensive. Please feel free to PM me if you have any doubts. Cheers! Dutchboy 0 #8 August 3, 2002 Could be worse, they could be bottlers. There is no way I would use that term in a US sales presentation. Many terms that brits use are considered much more foul over here.
Iflyme 0 #9 August 3, 2002 Emma, in my little corner of North America, a "wanker" is someone who practices self-gratification... one who "visits the palm sisters", "spanks the monkey", "pulls their pud", etc...

I take it our engagement is off then? I'll give you back your sheepskin jumpsuit asap.
